She was born prematurely and was found to be profoundly deaf in both of
her ears.
She is proficient in both lip reading and ASL.
She went through Survivor without the use of sign language
interpreters. She then asked her fellow tribemates to speak slowly so
she could read their lips.
Went on Survivor to bring awareness of deaf people and deaf
culture.
She made it 33 days in Survivor: The Amazon before she was voted off
and became the fourth member of the Jury.
Graduated from Gallaudet University in 2000.
Obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology/criminology from
Gallaudet University.
Developed a new PBS children's nature series called
"Christy's Kids: Challenge Yourself" with Colorado PBS Television. (July 2003)
She was the most surprising Survivor player who wasn't invited to
Survivor All-Stars. Almost every contestant and audition thought that
she would have been a part of All-Stars.
