Two things are for certain. Christa Campbells role in 2001 Maniacs was the definition of erotic and the fact she is returning for the sequel promises more eye candy for male horror fans.
First Look Studios proudly announces the acquisition of 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams, the latest installment of the popular horror-comedy cult franchise. The film is set to premiere at the Texas Frightmare festival this April. The infamous Tim Sullivan (2001 Maniacs, Driftwood) returns to the writing-directing helm with 2001 Maniacs: Field Of Screams. This time around the Southern residents of Pleasant Valley take their cannibalistic Guts N’ Glory Jamboree on the road to Iowa where they encounter spoiled Northern heiresses Rome and Tina Sheraton and the cast and crew of their “Road Rascals” reality show. Performing “The Bloodiest Show on Earth,” our Southern Maniacs prove to be more than ratings killers in what director John Landis calls “one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original.

In separate deals, Genius Products and Alliance Films have acquired Us and Canadian rights to the thriller Tell-tale starring Josh Lucas and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott. Michael Cuestas updated tale is based on Edgar Allan Poes short story The Tell-Tale Heart and centres on a widower who receives a transplanted heart from a murdered donor. Lena Headey and Brian Cox also star. The film premiered at Tribeca. Yarek Danielak and Matthew Chausse of Mirabelle Pictures International / Arsenal Pictures are selling international rights here at Afm. We think this film is one of the rare gems of the marketplace which has flown under most peoples radars until now, said Danielak, who recently announced the formation of the specialty sales outfit Mirabelle. We expect to close a number of deals at the market now that North American distribution is in place.

Mindfire Entertainment has announced its plans to turn the popular Eidos video game Fear Effect into a feature film, with director Stanley Tong in talks to helm the action picture. Mindfire CEO Mark A. Altman (House of the Dead 2, DOA: Dead or Alive) is set to produce with Mindfire chairman Mark Gottwald and senior vp business affairs Chuck Speed, based on a screenplay by Steve Kriozere. The film is being repped internationally by Yarek Danielak's Arsenal Pictures in Cannes. Altman described the movie as Mission: Impossible meets Silent Hill, adding that the film will faithfully follow the story line of the original PlayStation game. It will be set 10 years in the future, however, rather than in the alternate world of the source material.
