Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 2014

Directed by Matt Reeves

Starring Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Nick Thurston, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval

Synopsis:

In the wake of a disaster that changed the world, the growing and genetically evolving apes find themselves at a critical point with the human race.

The announcement of a reboot to the Planet of the Apes franchise was met with apathy due to the poor reception and utter failure of a movie that is Tim Burton’s 2001 remake, but 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a nice surprise. The movie was beautiful, slow and brilliantly written and acted with some of the most impressive visuals ever seen. Not only was it one of the best movies released that year, it was easily the best movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise. Its sequel »

Review: 'Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes" is a daring and dazzling accomplishment

28 June 2014 9:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

One of the words that was used most frequently when describing "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" was "surprise," and with good reason. After all, the previous attempt to bring the long-running science-fiction franchise back to life was a nightmare, a truly terrible film that is a narrative disaster even among the narrative disasters that mark many of Tim Burton's lesser films. It seemed like Fox had limped along trying to get an "Apes" movie made for so long that they were willing to try anything. Scott Frank came close to getting a film make called "Caesar," and it sounded like he was on the right track. His basic idea started with a Fox-mandated remake of "Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes," but went in a very different direction. His film was designed to be a hard-science story about what might happen if we made the advance »

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes Clip: Disturbing Ape Behavior Hints at a Much Darker Film

20 June 2014 8:22 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

It was always clear that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes would be darker than Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  Post-apocalyptic movies tend to be a bit of a downer.  However, a new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes clip shows something that's not just dark, but also flat-out disturbing.  The clip features the ape Koba (Toby Kebbell), who you may recall wasn't quite as forgiving as Caesar when it came to humans in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (the character was first played by Chris Gordon, but Kebbell came on board for the sequel since Koba has a larger role).  As this clip shows, Koba's attitude hasn’t changed, but he's become far more devious.  I almost wish Fox had kept this clip under wraps, but since they already showed some of it in the recent trailer, I suppose there's no reason to keep it in the bag. »

New & Intense 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Clip Reintroduces Koba

19 June 2014 11:25 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I absolutely love everything about this new clip from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The effects are flawless to the point you don't even question them, you only marvel at the scene with a sense of dread, more so for those of us that remember the Koba character from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, when he was played by Christopher Gordon. In the sequel he's played by Toby Kebbell and, well, just give it a watch for yourself. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 11. yt id="Itnj-k0TRB0" width="500" Set 15 years after the events of 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will focus on a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis), threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, »
