Lata Mangeshkar is not bothered by the spoof video

4 June 2016 3:27 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

The barrage of angry responses to the vulgar video-spoofing Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar has left the Goddess of melodious things unaffected. No, she hasn't watched the offending video because it doesn't bother her. "Nothing affects me. I've been through so much, faced so many hurdles in life. At an age when other girls play with dolls, I was out of the house trying to find work as a singer. I learnt from a young age that work is the only thing that matters," says Lataji. The affront to Lataji through the video mattered to her only because it bothered her admirers and well-wishers. "Log bahot pareshan ho gaye. Mujhe yeh bura laga. I don't like the idea of people getting hassled because of me. I want to assure all my well-wishers that these (spoofs, etc) are very small matters. There are so many far far greater issues in life. »

Vishal Dadlani feels were giving too much importance to the offensive Aib video

2 June 2016 5:28 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Composer Vishal Dadlani feels too much is being made the pathetic spoof video on Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar by the virtually unknown Tanmay Bhat. Reasons Vishal, "Sachin and Lataji are virtually deities in their spheres. A tasteless joke is not going to affect their aura." The feisty composer, currently ruling the charts with his compositions for the Amitabh Bachchan - Vidya Balan starrer Te3n feels there are double standards at work in how the entertainment industry has reacted to Tanmay's "joke" and the way they react to other similar spoofy attempts by comedians. Argues Vishal, "Principles are only worth anything when we stand by them even when they're inconvenient. When Kiku Sharda was jailed for a joke, we stood against the absurdity of it all. Suddenly, we are no better than those who were baying for Kiku's blood." Vishal wonders if the censor board is right in assuming that audiences lack a uniform maturity. »

That chap Tanmay Bhat has the mind of a cockroach - Javed Akhtar

1 June 2016 3:09 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Poet-lyricist-thinker Javed Akhtar, who is a diehard Lata Mangeshkar fan is appalled by the video mocking the singing legend and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. "This chap (Tanmay Bhat) has the mind of a cockroach. Humour is something we all appreciate. But what is funny about ridiculing Lataji? The video is cheap and unworthy of getting any attention. The chap had not bargained for the backlash. Since he had gotten away with so much crassness in the past he thought he would get away this time. But there are celebrities. And then there is Lata Mangeshkar. You can't get away with ridiculing her," says Javed Saab who called up the Nightingale on Monday. "She asked me what's in this video that has offended her well-wishers so much. I told her not to even go there. I advised her not to look at it. And she mercifully agreed. I can't bear to think »

Tanmay Bhat, whose Snapchat story on two of India's iconic figures viz., Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar, has not only earned him brickbats galore by almost everyone, but also made him the 'bhat' (no pun intended!) of all the ridicules and wrath. While his previous 'endeavours' have never spared anyone, his 'targets' refrained from speaking against him or his jokes. This time round, when the joke was on Lata Mangeshkar, which got snowballed into a big controversy, she said that she has neither seen the video, nor had any inclination to do so. While she refrained from commenting any further, she also very categorically mentioned that she did not know who Tanmay Bhat was. »

I recommend the strongest criminal action against Aib and Tanmay Bhat for insulting two Bharat Ratnas - Shatrughan Sinha

31 May 2016 3:33 AM, PDT | BollywoodHungama | See recent BollywoodHungama news »

Bollywood has erupted against self-styled stand-up comedian Tanmay Bhat and All India Backchod (Aib) for putting out a shockingly insulting and cheap video showing a Lata Mangeshkar impersonator and Sachin Tendulkar lookalike in a mock-debate on Virat Kohli. The ruling government Bjp's most vocal and articulate member Shatrughan Sinha has decided to take matters in hand. Speaking exclusively on the subject, a discernibly livid Shatrughan Sinha spoke out, "They've insulted not just the greatest singer of the country but the Divine Mother of the nation. I'd say Lataji is the Mother Teresa of popular culture. There will never be another Lata Mangeshkar for as long as civilization exists. To make such a cheap video featuring her is bad enough. To add Sachin Tendulkar to the atrocious prank is adding insult to injury." Shatrughan Sinha recommends the strongest criminal action against Tanmay Bhat and Aib. The All India Bakchod's Tanmay Bhat's spoof on Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar seems to have backfired very badly. While condemnation for the disgusting display of drollery aimed at the two Bharat Ratnas has grown from every quarter, news now comes of Maharashtra's Raj Thackeray's Mns filing an Fir against Tanmay Bhat and also issuing a diktat that Bhat be not allowed to perform anywhere in Maharashtra. Expressing deep disgust at the desecration of the two legends Pahlaj Nihalani says, "Banning this character (Tanmay Bhat) in Maharashatra is not enough. Lataji and Sachin Tendulkar don't belong to Maharashtra only. They are a part of every Indian's life. This fellow has insulted every Indian. He should be arrested immediately without any further delay and dealt with severely. Doing this to institutions who have devoted their lives to doing our country proud...shame!" Madhur Bhandarkar expresses disgust and disbelief at the Aib antic. »

“Emraan’s Azhar sets the record straight” – Subhash K Jha reviews Azhar

13 May 2016 10:00 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Azhar

Starring Emraan Hashmi, Prachi Desai, Nargis Fakhri, Lara Dutta,Kunal Roy Kapoor

Directed by Tony D’Souza

Rating: *** ½

So did he or did he not? Did cricketing phenomenon Mohammad Azharuddin (who fell short of achieving what Sachin Tendulkar or Sunil Gavaskar did) indulge in….ahem…match-fixing? The film leaves us unsure of Azhar’s moral correctness? In building a case of his heroic stature in and out of the sports field, writer Rajat Arora doesn’t flinch from asking uncomfortable questions about Azharuddin career moves and personal choices.

As directed by Tony d’Souza (whose last film Boss was a big bad-ass sambhar-curry) the bio-pic shifts gears from the personal to the professional without tripping on its nose. And that no mean achievement. In making a smooth transition from Azhar’s misadventures on the field to his complicated relationship-status, the narrative shows a level of sensibleness and straight-talking directness »
