Lgbtq Filmmakers Grapple With The Responsibility Of Eulogizing Orlando Nightclub Shooting

Buoyed by the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage, things looked really good for Lgbtq people at the start of 2016. Then came the Orlando massacre, and with it the reminder that queer people were not safe, not even within the comforts provided by its culture.

That was only six weeks ago, but it seems longer. Orlando has fallen out of the news cycle — for the media, too many fresher tragedies take precedence. There’s the police murders of black men, an assassin’s murders of police and the public in Dallas, the Nice attacks, and even another Florida nightclub shooting, this one in Fort Myers. And for the public, the crises converge. There were signs remembering Orlando at Black Lives Matter rallies, and the Lgbtq community responded to Orlando with anti-gun rallies and messages of support for Muslims.

This puts Lgbtq culture in a familiar position: If the threats to

9 Reasons Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Is the Best Holiday Song of All Time

9 Reasons Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ Is the Best Holiday Song of All Time
The holidays aren’t here until Mariah Carey says so. But when you hear "All I Want For Christmas Is You" -- that’s it. It’s time.

That’s just the way it’s been since 1994, when the jolly diva dropped that musical gift under our tree. Now a ubiquitous modern-day classic, its tambourine-shaking, bell-ringing, high note-hitting joyfulness could turn even Grumpy Cat’s frown upside down.

Video: Who Covered Carey's 'Christmas' Best?

Here are nine tributes to the original song that prove – even now, 20 years later – all we want for Christmas is Mariah:

1. Magic Mariah

Not even elves or jiving gingerbread men can upstage a diva (watch as she even throws them some shade). When Carey belted the tune in 2004 at the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade, the magic wasn’t happening inside the kingdom – it was happening on that stage.

2. Holly, Jolly and Retro

The lesser-known music video for "All I Want for

Melissa McCarthy: Fearless and Funny on Rolling Stone's New Cover
She's brassy, hilarious and just about the only comedian around who can almost single-handedly carry a movie to a $35 million opening: Tammy star Melissa McCarthy is on the cover of our Summer Double issue (on stands Friday), flexing her muscles for a revealing story that details her long rise to stardom and (sometimes unusual) acting techniques.

Rated Xx: A Brief History of Female Comedies

Ranking the House Down: Our Squirrel Friends in the Snatch Game (Drag Race Recap #4)

Ranking the House Down: Our Squirrel Friends in the Snatch Game (Drag Race Recap #4)
Snatch Game is the major event in every season of Rupaul’s Drag Race that clearly divides the fiercely talented queens from the basic amateurs. As Jinkx Monsoon once said of the event, “Snatch Game challenges your improv skills, your wit, and your impersonation skills. Without these three skills, a drag queen may as well not call herself a drag queen.” Famous Snatch Game performances from past seasons include: Pandora Boxx as Carol Channing, Stacy Layne Matthews as Monique, Sharon Needles as Michelle Visage, Chad Michaels as Cher, Jinkx as Little Edie Beale, and Alaska Thunderfuck as Lady Bunny. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the popular event has also brought us flat, half-baked and brainless performances from the likes of Kenya Michaels, Milan, and Lineysha Sparx. Tonight, Gia Gunn joined the ranks of the worst performances in Snatch Game herstory. After four rounds of Snatch Game, a queen

'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 6 cast rumors: Meet the (possible) new queens

With Jinkx Monsoon's Season 5 win firmly a thing of the past, anticipation for Season 6 of "RuPaul's Drag Race" has reached near fever pitch. While Logo hasn't even announced a premiere date (though the new season will likely follow those that have come before it and bow late January, 2014), the show is rumored to be currently in production, causing a flurry of casting rumors.

A website called Buzzsauce claims to have determined which 12 drag queens will be gunning for the title in Season 6, utilizing the very scientific method of noting who has been quiet on social media. Below are the dozen names thought to be filming now, though be sure to take it all with a grain of salt.

1. Adriana Le Glam

It's noted that this fishy (meaning: very feminine) queen from NYC, while rumored to be on the show, has remained quite active on social media. So, there goes that whole process Buzzsauce used.

With the network premiere set for next Thursday, June 27 (9:30 Et), HBO’s The Out List presents a collection of 16 intimate portraits of leaders within the Lgbt community and features prominent women such as Ellen DeGeneres, Janet Mock, Cynthia Nixon, Suze Orman, Christine Quinn, Wanda Sykes, in addition to community leaders and activists like Lupe Valdez, the first female, Latina, and lesbian sheriff of Dallas County, Texas, and Wazina Zondon, a Muslim-identified Afghan and sex educator.

Filmmaker Timothy Greenfield-Sanders began the project over two years ago; it is, as executive producer Orlan Boston writes in the forward to the project’s companion book, part of “a larger collection of investigations [The Black List, The Latino List] by Greenfield-Sanders that explore race, diversity, accomplishment, and identity in America.”

HBO recently hosted a screening of the documentary in New York City, and a sizable contingent of the documentary’s

'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 5 winner: Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska or Roxxxy Andrews -- Who won?

"RuPaul's Drag Race" Season 5 came to a close on Monday (May 6), with RuPaul crowning America's Next Drag Superstar from the final three made up of Jinkx Monsoon, Alaska and Roxxxy Andrews. So, who did Ru crown and award the $100,000?

After the hour-and-a-half reunion that saw each queen from the season take her place in the hot seat opposite Ru (more on that below), the crown was placed firmly on the head of Jinkx Monsoon, the campy, narcoleptic fan favorite from Seattle.

Jinkx entered the competition with a strong comedic ability and, though she occasionally struggled with her fashion and endured some nasty criticism from the season's pageant queens, she endeared herself to fans and Ru herself with her hilarious, campy presence.

Before learning she'd won, Ru asked Jinkx how she felt since taping concluded. The champ replied, "I think I've entered Jinkx 2.0: The butterfly phase." And how right she was.

The Sixth Eliminated Queen from "RuPaul's Drag Race": "I Hate 'Snatch Game'!"

We wait every year on RuPaul's Drag Race for the return of "Snatch Game," the phenomenally gaudy send-up of Match Game, where the queens parody celebrities, and this year's exhibition was damn loony. Jinkx Monsoon triumphed as Little Edie Bouvier thanks to a dead-on voice performance, and Alaska's strange, but spirited version of Lady Bunny was just as dynamic. However, some queens flailed before guest-judges Julie Brown and Downtown Julie Brown (yes, both MTV legends were present), and one such underachiever was Lineysha Sparx, the Puerto Rican looker who couldn't quite sell her impersonation of Celia Cruz. In a final lip-sync against Detox, Lineysha's sass was no match for Detox's unforgettably bizarre, jaw-quavering take on Cher.

We spoke briefly to Lineysha, a.k.a. 24-year-old Andy Trinidad, about her time on the show and discussed the problems with language barriers and attempting comedy.

AfterElton: I loved your runway presentation in the first challenge.

'RuPaul's Drag U' Recap: "Real Divorcees of La County"

Since reality television shows are certainly a dime a dozen nowadays and the 2003 hit show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy exploited the age-old stereotype of homosexuals being Fabuuulouuus to great effect, I guess a show centered upon a group of drag queens providing makeovers for straight women was inevitable. Drag U is a comfortably fun forty-five minutes of women embracing the drag inside of them, even if the competitive side is virtually non-existent.

The third season premiere begins with RuPaul introducing three new contestants: Hilary, who after losing 165 pounds lost her husband to a fat chick; Faith, an incredibly “frumpish” (the idea of anyone using the word “frumpish” in any type of conversation amuses me greatly) housewife whose husband left her alone with her children; and Shana, who married a guy after only a few weeks of knowing him and found out that he wasted most of his time checking out porn sites.

Drew Barrymore Celebrates Engagement with NYC Party

Drew Barrymore Celebrates Engagement with NYC Party
Drew Barrymore has a lot to celebrate - and she did so in style Friday night with a ritzy Manhattan engagement party. The bride-(and mom!)-to-be and her fiancé Will Kopelman hosted 300 guests, according to the New York Post. That guest list included Barrymore's Charlie's Angels costar Cameron Diaz, and the group celebrated at the Press Lounge rooftop in the city's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. Guests sipped the hostess's own Barrymore 2011 Pinot Grigio and snacked on wild salmon and spicy shrimp. Drag queen DJ Lady Bunny provided the '80s music on an outdoor patio and the space was decorated

Kanye's Crowd Craziness, Gossip Girls' Night Out and More From Fashion Week

Kanye's Crowd Craziness, Gossip Girls' Night Out and More From Fashion Week
Kanye West has been causing a fashion frenzy all over town. Take last night, for instance. The rapper, who's been popping up all over at parties and shows during New York Fashion Week, hit the new Mondrian in SoHo, where a V magazine party was held in honor of his cover issue. The late night bash drew such a crowd outside that things quickly began getting hectic, with crowding and a little shoving going on in the freezing temps.  So what happened...? Those who did make it in were smushed into the packed lounge with Sean Lennon, Leigh Lezark and Lady Bunny playing DJ. Some party tricks were added to the mix, like the "Make it Rain" machine that spit cash and golden cocktail tickets in the...

TV @ the Movies: Thelma & Louise Hates Texas. Drag U & Marie Antoinette.

I get many emails asking me to write more frequently about the small screen so I figured I should cave if a tv series really excites me (like Mad Men) but on one condition: it has to reference the movies (or feature a beloved movie actress) or involve awardage. I've highlighted movie-adjacent TV before like pre-fame TV roles or unexpected actress moments. So henceforth, I'll package it in series form. You know how we do here at Tfe. If something I happen to catch on television references the movies, I'll feature it on Saturday mornings to thank it for doing so.

Last week on Friday Night Lights Becky fell asleep watching Thelma & Louise and that is... well, I can only suspend so much disbelief and you just don't fall asleep watching that movie. It's awesome -- top ten of the 90s level awesome. But Becky is my least favorite character so whatever.

Reality Reiterated: Tom Gets Waxed (Everywhere!), No More Chen and RuPaul Rules!

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List

I imagine there are many perks to being Kathy Griffin’s assistant: jet-setting around the globe, meeting celebrities and pseudo-celebrities (I’m raising my penciled-in eyebrow at you, Snooki), and hanging around a really funny lady.

Oh, and having your nether regions waxed.

On this week’s D-List, Kathy hocked her wares to sell out three shows at Madison Square Garden, then worked on meeting her book publisher’s demand of selling 600 books at a single book signing, and getting herself “vagazzled.”

With a trip to the salon for a Brazilian once over and some sparkly bling just north of the money shot, Kathy was ready to get the word out and her pap smear on (under the watchful eyes of an audience and the media, of course) to spread the word about cervical cancer.

Naturally, Kathy wasn’t satisfied until her nervous

Sienna Has Nothing but Love For Jude During London Fashion Week

Fall Fashion Week has left NYC and moved on to London, where Kate Moss kicked things off on Friday. She was out again yesterday evening to join Mario Testino and Naomi Campbell at Vivienne Westwood Red Label, and Kate even celebrated afterward with the designer. Sienna Miller, meanwhile, had time to view her friend Matthew Williamson's collection before meeting up with sister Savannah at their own Twenty8Twelve show. She took a moment to chat about something other than her newest designs, saying of her on-again romance with Jude Law that, "It’s going really well. I’m so happy actually, he’s great." You guys think they should go ahead and get engaged again if it feels right, though Sienna was content to just toast her successful day at Matthew's afterparty. Afternoon Meme: Drag Queens Sizzle, "Caprica"'s Group Marriage In Bed, Sonic Runs Into Mario, plus Dave Salmoni

Welcome back to a supersized, Ed-was-snowed-in-and-watched-a-lot-of-web-video edition of Afternoon Meme. I'd like to thank Dennis Ayers for our new logos, and the ability to change them with my mood.

I have no interest in the next animated movie (training a dragon? seriously?) coming out, so I'm going to jump straight to the teaser trailer for Despicable Me, which has a delightfully goofy villain, but even better, he has minions. I've always wanted to be a super villain, not because I want to take over the work (well, not only), but because I want minions. Such a great concept, and an even better word.

The international trailer for Toy Story 3 has some additional footage, and most of it is of Ken, including a costume change and a great line.

Defendor is another super hero without super powers movie, like a Batman without billions of dollars. It's also not quite as
