Matthew Ross didn’t waste much time putting his sophomore film in place, after debuting 2016’s Frank & Lola at Sundance (read review) he tapped Keanu Reeves for Siberia, a follow up that appears to once again make different genres into ideal bed partners. Deemed a romantic thriller, production began in April on location in St Petersburg, Russia and Winnipeg, Canada.

Based on a story Stephen Hamel and a screenplay by Scott B. Smith, starring Reeves, Molly Ringwald, Aleks Paunovic, Pasha D. Lychnikoff and Ana Ularu, this follows Lucas (Reeves), an American diamond merchant, who travels to Russia to sell rare blue diamonds of questionable origin. As the deal begins to collapse, he falls into an obsessive relationship with Katya (Ularu), a Russian cafe owner, in a small Siberian town. Ross reteams with cinematographer Eric Koretz and composers Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans.

Alice Eve (“Star Trek Into Darkness”) also stars in the film, which is directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“The Day After Tomorrow”) from a script written by Stephen Hamel and Chad St. John. After a car accident kills his loving family, a daring neuroscientist (Reeves) will stop at nothing to bring them back, even if it means pitting himself against a government-controlled laboratory, a police task force and the physical laws of science themselves.

Toronto: Keanu Reeves Thriller Sells to Byron Allen’s Company
Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has shelled out $4 million for North American rights to “Replicas,” a thriller with Keanu Reeves and “Silicon Valley” star Thomas Middleditch, Variety has confirmed.

The film centers on a neuroscientist who tries to replicate his family after they die in a car accident. Reeves produced the film along with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Stephen Hamel. Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“Traitor”) is directing the picture, which also stars Alice Eve (“Star Trek: Into Darkness”) and John Ortiz (“Kong: Skull Island”). Hamel wrote the film’s story and Chad St. John is credited with the screenplay.

The deal was hammered out at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film was screening for buyers, though it is not in competition.

Reeves had a box office dry spell post-“Matrix,” but has rebounded a bit with the “John Wick” films. Allen’s company has moved aggressively into the film space in recent years, unsuccessfully

Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios has picked up the North American rights to the Keanu Reeves sci-fi thriller Replicas.

Replicas takes place after a car accident kills the loving family of a daring neuroscientist — who will stop at nothing to bring them back.

Jeffrey Nachmanoff directed the feature, which also stars Alice Eve. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Stephen Hamel porduced, along with Reeves, Mark Gao and Luis Riefkohl.

Bill Johnson and Jim Seibel for Lotus Entertainment executive produced, along with Nik Bower, James Dodson, Deepak Nayar, Maxime Remillard, Clark Peterson, Walter Josten and Erik Howsam of Di Bonaventura Pictures.

First Photo of Keanu Reeves in the Sci-Fi Movie Replicas and He's Bringing Footage to Nycc

Keanu Reeves has his fair share of successful Sci-Fi films like The Matrix, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and Johnny Mnemonic among others. Now he's making his return to the genre and bringing the project to New York Comic Con.

Reeves will bring the first footage from his sci-fi feature Replicas to the convention next month. Thanks to THR we have our first photo of Reeves in the film.

Reeves stars in the movie as scientist who becomes obsessed with the idea of bringing his family back to life with cutting edge cloning technology after they all tragically die in a car crash. Alice Eve also stars as Reeves' wife, with Silicon Valley star Thomas Middleditch also among the cast.

The movie's director Jeffrey Nachmanoff and producer Stephen Hamel will also attend the Nycc panel.

New York Comic Con runs Oct. 5-8.

Reality TV Format ‘Bruce Lee Project’ Launches in Asia, Middle East

International competition series “The Bruce Lee Project” will be brought to South Asia and the Middle East with backers including Keanu Reeves and Shannon Lee, daughter of the late martial arts ace.

The Bruce Lee Project” is a competition series that stretches across 12 episodes and a live 90 minute finale, with the objective of finding people who are not just martial artists, but warriors in life. The show features philosophical mentors as well as physical training, at the Bruce Lee Center.

Road Pictures to produce Chinese version of 'Run Lola Run'

Zhu Zhu will star in the remake of the cult German thriller.

China’s Road Pictures has unveiled a slate of new productions, including a Chinese-language remake of 1998 German breakout hit Run Lola Run.

Announced at the recent Beijing International Film Festival (Bjiff), the remake will star Chinese actress Zhu Zhu (Marco Polo), who will also executive produce.

Based in Beijing with an office in Los Angeles headed by Julien Favre, Road Pictures is also co-financing Andrew Niccol’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Anon, starring Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried, with Germany’s K5 Media Group. The film is currently in post-production for release later this year.

Road Pictures also announced several new projects at the Bjiff event including The Diamond Age, an adaptation of Neal Stephenson’s cult sci-fi novel, produced in association with Lauren Selig, Barry Levine and Mike Bundlie, which is being scripted by Karl Gajdusek.

-Sony Pictures is acquiring the worldwide rights to “Greyhound,” the World War II drama written by Tom Hanks, Deadline reports. Hanks will also star in the film, which will be directed by Aaron Schneider (“Get Low”), and produce with his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman.

In the film, Hanks plays George Krause, the commander of a Navy destroyer called the Greyhound. Sony acquired the rights to the film at the Berlin International Film Festival’s European Film Market.

Lionsgate has acquired U.S. distribution rights to the Keanu Reeves auto racing movie “Rally Car” at the start of the Berlin Film Festival.

The movie will be directed by Olivier Megaton from a script by Jeremy Lott based on a treatment by Stephen Hamel. With John Wick: Chapter 2 only a few days away from release, star Keanu Reeves has locked down a lead role in a new (admittedly less action-heavy) movie. Variety reports that he'll headline a film called Siberia, in which he will "portray an American diamond trader trying to sell blue diamonds of dubious origin to buyers in Russia. As the deal begins to collapse he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner in a small Siberian town while colliding with the treacherous world of the diamond trade from which he is unable to extricate himself."
