The duo comprised the late Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley.
First artists to score a Top 20 hit in two different decades with the same recording: "Unchained Melody" (#4/1965) and (#13/1990). The song was rediscovered when it featured prominently on the soundtrack of the hit movie Ghost (1990).
Two #1 hits include, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (1965) (written by Phil Spector, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil / "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" (1966) (written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
Their hit "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" is, to date (2007), the most played song in the history of radio and television: in excess of 8 million spins since its release in 1965 according to Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) licensing statistics.
Adopted their recording/performing title after marines had so named them during a concert at the Black Derby in Santa Ana, California.
Claim to be the first act of the rock 'n' roll era to play the Las Vegas Strip.
