With Evil Dead Rise now in theaters around the world, I had a chance to catch up with Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland, who told me all about their introductions to the original "Evil Dead" films and their on-set experience!
New Line Cinema and Renaissance Pictures present a return to the iconic horror franchise, “Evil Dead Rise,” from writer/director Lee Cronin (“The Hole in the Ground”). The movie stars Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols (“Reminiscence”) and introducing Nell Fisher (“Northspur”).
Moving the action out of the woods and into the city, “Evil Dead Rise” tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters, played by Sutherland and Sullivan, whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

Evil Dead Rise, the 2023 entry in the Evil Dead franchise, just released a bloody and terrifying two-minute trailer that’s everything you’d want or expect from an Evil Dead project. A chainsaw’s involved, of course, but that seems tame compared to what else the trailer teases is in store for horror fans.
Vikings‘ Alyssa Sutherland stars along with Lily Sullivan (I Met a Girl), Morgan Davies (Storm Boy), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), and newcomer Nell Fisher.
Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) wrote and directed the grisly horror film. Cronin’s behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dave Garbett, production designer Nick Bassett, editor Bryan Shaw, and costume designer Sarah Voon. Stephen McKeon wrote the score.
Evil Dead Rise has Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi and “Ash” himself, Bruce Campbell, involved as executive producers. Ash vs Evil Dead‘s Rob Tapert produces. Additional executive producers include John Keville,...

A remote cabin in the woods becomes a blood-soaked chamber of horrors when a group of 20-something friends unwittingly awakens an ancient demon in Evil Dead, the highly anticipated reboot of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult-hit horror film The Evil Dead.
In theaters April 5th and featuring a fresh young cast, Evil Dead is a bone-chilling film that combines all the raw excitement and gleeful gore of the acclaimed original with a series of shocking new twists.
Mia (Jane Levy), a young woman whose life has been marred by loss and addiction, asks her brother David (Shiloh Fernandez), his girlfriend Natalie (Elizabeth Blackmore) and their childhood friends Olivia (Jessica Lucas) and Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) to join her at the family’s rustic cabin to help her overcome her demons. Once there, she ceremoniously destroys the last of her stash and swears off drugs for good in front of her friends.

Costume design is typically something you consider when watching a period drama or a Merchant Ivory film. Clothing isn’t the first thing you think of when thinking of Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead. Rather, most of it seems to be there just to soak up the blood, brains, and gore that gets dumped all over the characters. But, it’s a very important detail in setting time, character age, and place in the movie.
Good costuming also serves as a way to hide the rigs that give us all those cool practical effects while adding to the overall beaten-up look of the characters. Finally, if you’ve seen the film, you may have noted that the some of the costuming was used as a clever nod to Raimi’s original.

Our friends across the pond at Fancy Dress Costumes recently sat down with Evil Dead costume designer Sarah Voon to discuss the various costumes and look of the characters in the flick. Even cooler? They were kind enough to send over their Q&A for you cats. Dig it!
Check out the goods below, and big thanks to Martin Delaney at Fancy Dress Costumes!
Question: Were you a fan of the original Evil Dead films?
Sarah Voon: I used to love horror in my youth, so I had seen all the greats from the ’80s including the original Evil Dead, which I found truly terrifying at the time.
Question: How much of your job revolved around making the cast look as unglamorous/beaten up as possible?
Sarah Voon: I’d say 80%. All the costumes were aged and taken back a notch or two, so nothing was ‘box fresh’ to start with.
