Sylvester Stallone Wants Sandra Bullock as an 'Expendable'

27 December 2008 4:25 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Sylvester Stallone is assembling an all-star cast for his latest adventure film, The Expendables. Already he lined up Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture as the team of mercenaries hired to dethrone a dictator. The film has been written and will be directed by Stallone with production slated to begin in March for a 2010 release.  While Lionsgate will distribute in the UK, no word on who will release this in the states.

Jo Blo reports that Stallone is trying to entice his Demolition Man co-star Sandra Bullock to join in on the fun. She would play “a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns. Delicious.”

Moviehole unearthed character breakdowns from the flick, including verification/speculation as to which actors are in the roles. The site says the film has been described as "Clear and Present Danger on acid. »

Is Sandra Bullock Expendable?

26 December 2008 8:45 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

If the news already released (mainly casting in nature) for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action flick The Expendables hasn’t got you excited enough already, we have another piece of casting news to fuel the fire.

Now it’s not set in stone but it appears that Sandra Bullock may be the next one to jump aboard the cast, as Stallone is “pursuing her for the project.” If she signs on the dotted line she will join already announced cast members Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker, Randy Couture and of course Stallone himself (who’s also writer and director).

If you need a little reminder, The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries who are sent on a mission to South America to overthrow a dictator. Moviehole described the movie as shaping up to be like “‘Clear and Present Danger’ on acid…”

Sounds interesting (to say the least! »

Bullock Expendable?

23 December 2008 4:39 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Will Sylvester Stallone's action flick The Expendables be a great movie... or the greatest movie? So far, Sly has lined up Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture for his tale of mercenaries on a mission to take down an evil dictator. Will he also be reuniting with his spunky (and still quite desirable) Demolition Man partner Sandra Bullock? That's what we've heard from someone who's worked on several Stallone projects, including this one. And while it's not »

Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: December 14, 2008

14 December 2008 2:20 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

This weeks Weekend Movie News Wrap Up features:

The Box Office; Brad Pitt gets Lost; Pesce is Smokin’ Aces; we learn more details about Stallone’s The Expendables; Twilight really is Near Dark and Kenneth Brannagh talks Thor!

Box Office

Keanu Reeves barely justified his hefty salary for The Day The Earth Stood Still. The Sci-Fi remake mustered a disappointing $33 million over the weekend. Not great for a $100 million plus film. It might barely limp to the century mark and the box office, but word of mouth isn’t great. By the time next weekend is over it may be lucky to have earned $50Mm in the U.S. - so this could be another financial disappointment for Fox.

Four Christmases should manage another $14 million bringing its total close to $90 million. Rival Christmas film Nothing Like The Holidays should muster about $3 million over the weekend. Looks like there wasn’t much festive cheer for that. »

Ufc's Randy Couture Also Joins Stallone's The Expendables

13 December 2008 4:25 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

The cast for Sylvester Stallone's next big action project, titled The Expendables, already features Stallone himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren, but the script calls for a total of five mercenaries, so who is this fifth? None other than Ufc Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture, as Ain't It Cool News reports today. Apparently Stallone wants to give him "an excellent boost towards big screen action stardom," considering his last role was the direct-to-dvd Scorpion King 2, a big pile of shit if you ask me. This now rounds out the cast of mercenaries and puts the project on track to start shooting in March in Brazil. The Expendables will follow a team of "expendable" mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator. The names of the five mercenaries are Hale Caesar, Kong Kao, Christmas, Barney Ross, and Gunnar. In addition to the casting scoop, Stallone revealed to »

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" Blu-ray review. More impressive than the last "Indiana Jones."

3 December 2008 1:44 AM, PST | Upcoming-Movies.com | See recent Upcoming-Movies.com news »

When the first “Mummy” came out back in 1999, I was semi-impressed. I felt the film was filled with cheesy humor despite impressive effects as well as a charming male and female lead in Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The next film came plummeting downhill for the most part and introduced the “Scorpion King” character which opened up the way for a film of the same title starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This was then followed up by the recent straight-to-video release “The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior” starring Michael Copon and wannabe actor Randy Couture of Ufc fame. »

Randy Couture Comes Back to Ufc

2 September 2008 11:30 PM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

The past year has been laden with nothing but legal battles for Randy Couture, who previously claimed that Ufc lacked the support he needed in order to further his career with them.  On Tuesday, however, Ufc and Couture announced that they have finally come to terms regarding their previous disagreement.  In fact, the 45-year-old fighter is set to return to the wrestling battlefield on November 15th in Las Vegas, Nevada.  There, he will finally get to defend his title against Brock Lesnar.

“We've resolved them all,” Dana White said of the differences Ufc had with Couture.  “He's always been the heavyweight champion of the Ufc. ... All I care about is that [Couture] is back and fighting.”

Couture adds that they have “cleared the air and addressed the issues.  We are both in different places (then we were then); both the company and myself.”

Couture also expresses that he still wants to fight Fedor, »

Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior Movie Review

20 August 2008 8:00 PM, PDT | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

If you ask the producers or at least read the box art this is the highly anticipated prequel to the hit movie The Scorpion King. The key thing here is the producers are back but the director, the star and everything else is missing. This direct to dvd sequel starring Mixed Martial Arts star Randy Couture is as can be expected.. not very good... but not overly horrible. I am a huge fan of Randy Couture since I have been in Martial Arts my entire life and Randy has been one of the icons of Mixed Martial Arts. But even I knew casting an Mma star was not only lame but a weak attempt to emulate th »

DVD Review: The Scorpion King 2: Rise of the Warrior

13 August 2008 4:18 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I was not a fan of the first Scorpion King flick. Quite frankly I thought it was awful despite finding undeniable enjoyment in the stupidity that are the first two Mummy films. Even still, I have a soft spot in me for direct-to-dvd features. It's not as if I always find them enjoyable, but I always watch them with my expectations so low it is typically hard for them to entirely disappoint. Direct-to-video releases aren't made on big budgets and they don't typically gain the greatest actors. The Scorpion King 2 is no different as they recruited Ufc champion Randy Couture as the "big name" in the cast. This is a sad statement in and of itself, especially considering he is in the film for about 15 or the 109 minutes. Not exactly worthy of top billing. The story is a prequel story to the one told in 2002 Scorpion King starring The Rock as Mathayus the Scorpion King. »

I know what you're thinking ... "What in the world is Dread Central reviewing this for?" honestly we almost didn't. The only reason that it even on the radar was because this franchise is the bastard son of the effects heavy Mummy movies. Even then though the original The Scorpion King was little more than a straight action movie with barely any super natural elements at all. The lack of creatures of any kind in the first film was ultimately it's downfall. It just deviated too far from the formula of made the Mummy flicks work. With The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior director Russell Mulcahy is out to correct that wrong and does so on a scale that's better than expected.

The Tribeca Film Festival is in full swing, but if you don't live in New York, there's no need to fret. No less than three films ("From Within," "Mister Lonely" and "Redbelt") on this list of coming attractions have played the festival in recent days. Then again, if you are in New York and want to catch something outside the fest, there's always that intimate character drama starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and a red and gold metal suit of armor.

"The Favor"

Writer/director Eva J. Aridjis brings us a quiet tale of angst and alienation starring former New York subway busker Ryan Donowho as Johnny, a high school loner who's taken in by Lawrence (Frank Wood), a quiet pet photographer, after his mother (Paige Turco) is killed in an accident. In order to be the father he needs, Lawrence must fight through Johnny's rebellious »
