BBC sitcom co-creator Ruth Jones has revealed a musical version of Gavin and Stacey could be on the cards

The plains of Oklahoma and the opera houses of Paris have been among the settings for classic musicals. If Gavin and Stacey's co-creator Ruth Jones has anything to do with it, they could soon be joined by a cul-de-sac in Billericay.

Jones, who co-wrote the television series in which she also stars with James Corden, has revealed a musical version of the hit BBC sitcom could be on the cards. She told the Daily Star: "We'd love to do Gavin and Stacey: The Musical. I know it is something James wants to do, too."

She continued: "It's something I would definitely be up for," also revealing that plans for a Christmas special had been dropped owing to other commitments. Jones has been writing and acting in a new comedy called Stella, »

James Corden will present the Brit Awards for the third time next year. The comedian and actor hosted the annual music awards ceremony last year and also shared presenting duties with his Gavin and Stacey co-star Mathew Horne in 2009. Corden said in a statement: "I enjoyed presenting the show so much last year, so being asked back for the third time is a real honour. "Ever since I was a teenager, I've loved the Brit Awards. As a music fan I feel totally privileged to have the best seat in the house. I can't wait." Corden reportedly donated his appearance fee for last year's event to Comic Relief. James Corden: 'I'm not sure people even think of me as an actor at all'

2 October 2011 4:05 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The comic actor is starring in One Man Two Guvnors in the West End, but he fears people still associate him with the mis-steps he took after his hit with Gavin and Stacey. Will his new memoir redeem his public image?

In a small side room at the Guardian, with Al Pacino glowering from a poster above us, James Corden is performing a masterclass in modesty. He is quiet, contained, thoughtful. He rubs his nose, strokes his chin, considering his answers; if he had a forelock, I suspect he'd tug it. The main message is how fortunate he is. He feels privileged to be an actor, he says, grateful to appear on television, surprised at the breadth of his career, dumbfounded to be starring at the National Theatre. "I just feel lucky that I'm able to do so many different things," he says. "I feel constantly amazed that I'm allowed to, »

James Corden's comedy regrets

19 September 2011 9:00 AM, PDT | Virgin Media - TV | See recent Virgin Media - TV news »

James Corden regrets his sketch show with Mat Horne. The 33-year-old funnyman teamed up with his former 'Gavin & Stacey' co-star for 'Horne and Corden' in 2009 but it wasn't well received and looking back, James can see why because they didn't take enough time to perfect it. He said: "I wish we had taken more time over our sketch show. I wish we hadn't rushed it so much. I wish we'd just put the brakes on and said, 'We need a year and a half before we can even contemplate shooting this', rather than four or five months. "I don't think Mat »

The 13-year-old actor plays the movie's titular character and was fascinated to meet the Girls Aloud singer, who plays his overactive cousin, Prissy Polly, in the children's film. He told Bang Showbiz: ''I was a bit starstruck by Kimberley Walsh. There was loads of hype around her starring in the film because she'd come on during one of the last days. Horrid Henry: The Movie – Review

29 July 2011 9:30 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

For the uninitiated, Henry is Horrid. He doesn’t like school, or his suck-up younger brother, Perfect Peter. He wants to make a lot of mess, shirk his homework and rock out with his band. He hates girls, especially his nemesis Moody Margaret and constantly buts up against his class teacher, Miss Battleaxe. Vic Van Wrinkle, the headteacher of a local private school wants to try to shut down Henry’s school, thereby forcing all of the parents to fork out to have their little darlings educated by him. He enlists he School Inspectors to help him, until Henry and his cohorts get wind of his plan and set out to put a stop to it.

Reviewing a film like Horrid Henry is nigh on impossible. Your take on it will so very much depend on your age and disposition towards the source material, that giving it a star-rating is really an exercise in futility. »

Mat Horne: '3-D is right for Horrid Henry'

28 July 2011 1:00 AM, PDT | Virgin Media - Movies | See recent Virgin Media - Movies news »

Mat Horne thinks the 3-D aspect of 'Horrid Henry' was ''right'' for the film. The 'Gavin & Stacey' actor - who stars as the titular character's dad in the family movie, which is based on children's books and a TV series of the same name - said the visual format was required because the motion picture is aimed at children. He told Bang Showbiz: ''One reason I did this film is because I wanted to do something in 3-D. I think the style of the film complements the narrative itself because of the audience we're pitching for. »

Horrid Henry: The Movie review

27 July 2011 8:03 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The big screen debut of Horrid Henry gives the likes of Harry Potter very little to worry about. Here's our review...

If you don't like children, and I mean what children are really like when they're away from their parents, don't go to see this movie. I went to see it in a screening full of primary school kids. Not ideal viewing, you might say, but it did offer me an altered perspective on things. For Horrid Henry is a strange phenomenon restricted to the world of the underdeveloped. Henry is so mischievous and downright horrid throughout, it's pure wish fulfilment for the little blighters who'd like to do the same.

So, there's a lot of children, a whole film full, in fact. Some are better than others, granted, but tolerance of a child's more unattractive side is a minimum requirement before entering the cinema to see this one. Unless you're under 10 years old, »

Gavin and Stacey movie 'a bad idea'

25 July 2011 4:15 AM, PDT | Virgin Media - TV | See recent Virgin Media - TV news »

Mathew Horne thinks a 'Gavin and Stacey' movie is a "bad idea". The 32-year-old actor - who played the male lead in the BBC comedy opposite Joanna Page - explained while his on-screen dad Larry Lamb is all for taking the show to the big screen, he doesn't think it's wise. He said: "I think a movie would be a bad idea. I know Larry Lamb is up for it, but not me." However, Mathew is keen for the cast - including creators James Corden and Ruth Jones, as well as Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon - to reunite for a one-off Christmas »

James Corden, the History Boy, grows up after learning the perils of fame

14 May 2011 4:04 PM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

First there were Alan Bennett's play and the hit sitcom Gavin & Stacey. Then the backlash. Now James Corden is back

Most actors would happily admit to trampling their own mothers if it meant getting a part in a new play at the National theatre directed by Nicholas Hytner. Who wouldn't want a potentially career-defining role with the director who gave the world critically acclaimed versions of Henry V, King Lear and Hamlet? And yet how many actors, faced with the choice, would be prepared to take the role if it involved turning down a £6m golden-handcuff deal with ITV?

That is the quandary in which James Corden reportedly found himself last autumn – deliberating between a return to the stage or the opportunity to become the fourth most highly paid star on television (after Simon Cowell and Ant and Dec), but it is unlikely ever to trouble anyone else again. »
