Bill Murray reveals his choices to play him in SNL 1975: Kenan Thompson, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, and Amy Poehler. Kristen Wiig reacts to the news and gladly accepts Murray's casting choice to portray him in the upcoming Saturday Night Live film. It's unlikely a younger Bill Murray will show up in the SNL origin film, since he didn't appear as a member of the original "Not Ready for Prime Time Players."
Imagining Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader portraying Bill Murray isn’t too much of a stretch. However, could fans imagine Kenan Thompson portraying the Hollywood superstar? How about Kristen Wiig or Amy Poehler? Well, that’s the word from Murray himself when he arrived — fashionably late, of course — to join his castmates at the premiere of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Murray was asked who he’d like to play him in...

The following contains spoilers for Palm Royale, which debuts March 20, 2024 on Apple TV+.
Kristen Wiig is best known as a comedic performer, but she's proved her dramatic skills in indie films like The Skeleton Twins and Welcome to Me. That means it's not entirely surprising to see her leading an Apple TV+ drama series, even if her exaggerated outfits and hairstyles as Maxine Simmons in Palm Royale suggest a character who's at least slightly ridiculous. Palm Royale is much less comedic than people might expect from Saturday Night Live alum Wiig, but it has a campy sense of humor that carries it.
What Palm Royale resembles is the golden age of the network nighttime soap opera, from Desperate Housewives back to the original Dallas and Dynasty. Creator Abe Sylvia most recently garnered acclaim for the Showtime biopic miniseries George & Tammy, but he and director Tate Taylor also collaborated on...

“When you first come to Palm Beach, you think you’re the oldest and the richest. But then you realize you are the youngest and poorest.”
Everybody has goals. For new resident Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), hers is to enter the world of Palm Beach high society circa 1969. She dreams of joining the Palm Royale, the most exclusive country club in the area. It’s the sort of exclusive place filled with swimming pools, galas and daytime martinis that feeds into the competitive charity season. It’s the time of year where the wealthy women in the area show off their wallets and organizational skills to vie for the coveted title of “Queen of the Season.”
All this just to be mentioned in the local society papers. After all, “At the Palm Royale, the more you gave, the more you got.”

There are so many fabulous women wearing so many fabulous ‘60s outfits in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, it’s like a Ryan Murphy fever dream. A cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern and Carol Burnett is undeniably tantalizing, but Palm Royale — debuting this Wednesday on the streamer; I’ve seen the first three episodes — never lives up to its stellar cast. Campy and overbaked, it manages to fall between the cracks of the dramedy genre: not funny enough to be a comedy and not compelling enough to be a drama. But the clothes do look great,...

The television landscape is so much better when we have Kristen Wiig gracing every inch of the small screen. In the past few years, she's added multiple layers to her signature repertoire, including very layered, dramatic chops. Her latest role in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, however, returns the actress to true comedic form and showcases a rather nuanced depth unseen in her previous work. In what could arguably be our next, juicy TV obsession, the period dramedy set during the powder keg year of 1969 by showrunner Abe Sylvia is exactly what we expect from the streamer's glossy, theatrical-styled entertainment.

Long before Instagram stories and TikTok videos were a thing, gossip magazines and television allowed everyday people to feel a connection to the wealthy and beautiful. In real life, few are brave enough to elbow their way onto the A-list, but others are bold enough to demand a seat at the table — which brings us to “Palm Royale.” Based on Juliet McDaniel’s novel, “Mr. & Mrs. American Pie,” and adapted for television by Abe Sylvia, Apple TV+’s new 1960s-set comedy, “Palm Royale” follows bottle-blonde Palm Beach transplant Maxine Simmons (a perfectly cast Kristen Wiig), who is determined to craft a glitzy and glamorous life for herself, even if it means bending the rules a smidge. Wildy outrageous and amusing, “Palm Royale” suggests that you might get more than you requested if you’re delusional enough to go after what you want.

Apple TV+’s Palm Royale may be set in the late 1960s, but its greatest pleasures seem tailor-made for the age of the internet. Every shot of a socialite smirking over the rim of a cocktail glass plays like the perfect reaction Gif. The bitchy bon mots might as well be engineered for portioning into TikTok-sized soundbites, the outrageous plot twists for drawing gasps in the group chat. And the aesthetic — oh, the aesthetic! In a repudiation of the “quiet luxury” greige, this vision of America’s elite is awash in shimmering jewel tones and Lilly Pulitzer brights. You could build entire mood boards around the hippie-chic bookstore or the baroque mansion. I myself lost a good 20 minutes Googling between episodes for cat-eye sunglasses just like the ones featured on Maxine (Kristen Wiig).
But the eye-popping style is as good as the show gets; the fun ends where the surface does.

The White Lotus is not returning with a new season until 2025, but it seems like a forthcoming Apple TV + series will provide the perfect company during this waiting period. Palm Royale is based on the 2017 novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, and it follows Maxine Simmons as she does her best to insert herself into an exclusive club where only society's higher-ups belong. Although the character does not have the status or wealth that the members of this elite group have, she will find her way around the system and uncover some secrets in the process. The limited series coming out on March 20, is set in the late 1960s during President Nixon's leadership, so it's safe to say that the hairspray and preppy dresses will be a highlight of this project. Yet, another major pull factor for this title is its ensemble, which is stacked with several Hollywood A-listers. From Kristen Wiig to Ricky Martin,...

Kristen Wiig reflected on the legacy of Bridesmaids and the possibility of filming a sequel in a new interview.
The 50-year-old actress starred in the 2011 comedy, which also featured the likes of Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy, Rebel Wilson and Rose Byrne.
At the time of its release, it appeared that the movie would usher in a new age of female-driven comedies. However, over a decade later the reality is slightly different. Kristen commented on the development.
She also teased if we would see her getting into character as Annie again.

For new comedy series Palm Royale, Kristen Wiig is putting her long résumé of accents to work.
The former Saturday Night Live star is back on the small screen in the Apple TV+ show, set in Palm Beach high society in 1969. Wiig stars as Maxine Simmons, an ambitious woman who tries to scheme her way into the exclusive, and often treacherous, world.
“I just tried to do my best Chattanooga,” Wiig jokingly told The Hollywood Reporter of her pronounced accent in the series at the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday. “Practiced in the mirror.”
Wiig also serves as an executive producer on the project and appears alongside a star-studded cast including Allison Janney, Laura Dern (who is also an EP), Carol Burnett, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas and Kaia Gerber. Paul Rudd is back for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and this time, he’s in the drivers seat of the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle.
Following 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the franchise picks up with an ancient artifact unleashing an evil force, and Ghostbusters new and old join forces to save the world from a second ice age. Original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson — who appeared briefly in Afterlife — return to their classic roles, starring alongside Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace.
“It was so great getting to work with them on this,” Rudd told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s New York premiere on Thursday of working with the trio. “It’s so surreal honestly. I’ve been watching Ghostbusters my whole life and I’m such a fan of theirs and a fan of the film, to be part of it is a thrill, a total thrill.

Get your red vest ready: Kristen Wiig is said to be reprising her recurring character The Target Lady in a series of ads for the discount department store.
That’s according to Roger Friedman at Showbiz411, who reports that Wiig and a crew were recently spotted taking over a Target store overnight to shoot the campaign.
Wiig famously portrayed the overzealous Target cashier in ten SNL sketches beginning in 2005. In each of the sketches, she invariably drives her rushed customers crazy as she enthusiastically comments on each of their products as she scans them
Wiig developed the character when she was a part of the Los Angeles improv group The Groundlings and brought it with her to Saturday Night Live, which is what allows her to perform it off the show.

A few weeks before this year’s Golden Globes, Kristen Wiig went over to Will Ferrell’s house in L.A. to brainstorm how they might co-present an acting prize at the show, which was reinventing itself as new and improved after a series of scandals. The event was among the first major Hollywood gatherings since the actors strike ended in November, with a guest list of stars hoping to fit six months of thwarted awards campaigning into one night, and Wiig and Ferrell were expected to lighten the mood. “We wrote stuff out, and then we would be like, ‘Wait, how does this end? In light of the announcement that the Barbie star is...

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.
Below is The Hollywood Reporter’s updating guide to season 49’s SNL hosts and musical guests.

While his short tenure as a Saturday Night Live cast member may not be the first thing we think of when we think of Robert Downey Jr., he blazed a new path for the show Sunday night.
In winning Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer, Downey is now the first SNL cast member to take home an Oscar.
The have been other nominees. Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Joan Cusack, Michael McKean, and Kristen Wiig have all been been nomimated, but none sealed the deal. Downey himself was a three-time nominee going into Sunday night’s ceremony, having lost for Chaplin in 1993 and Tropic Thunder in 2009.
Downey served just one year as a cast member on the show in 1985, in what some consider SNL’s worst season. It was one of only two seasons that began with a complete cast turnover, and more than half weren’t asked back the following the season.

Movies including Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders Of The Lost Ark are regarded by audiences and critics alike as some of the most well-produced blockbusters. One of the main features that make these films stand out is their well-rounded characters, whose sparkling personalities have attracted viewers young and old.

Hollywood has, since the beginning, produced films that are directed at a family viewing experience, from meaningful cartoon films to big-budget blockbusters. However, there are still plenty of movies that, while not written for kids, can be enjoyed by the whole family. In some of these films, the mature elements are muted just enough that adult humor and even horror can go unnoticed by the younger viewers.
