28 October 2010 4:00 AM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Well it didn’t take long for Skyler Samuels to be snatched up for another television show. Samuels, who played succubus Andie Bates on ABC’s canceled supernatural Buffy-meets-Desperate-Housewives show, The Gates, will star in a new ABC Family pilot. The pilot is based on Celia Thomson’s young adult series The Nine Lives of Chloe King in which a young girl “discovers that she has feline abilities.”

The pilot is produced by Dan Berendsen (Wizards of Waverly Place, Sabrina, The Teenaged Witch). Check out what this book series is about:

“She did her homework and got good grades, but she wasn’t afraid to ditch class sometimes to hang out with her best friends. She slept at home, but otherwise avoided all human contact with her mom. The usual stuff. Then she fell from San Francisco’s highest tower, and her life changed. For starters, she died. And then, »

10 October 2010 7:02 AM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

While a second season on ABC seems like a real long shot, ABC hasn't officially cancelled The Gates (unlike say, My Generation). One of the show's stars however has been told that there won't be a second season.

The Gates follows a Chicago police detective (Frank Grillo) who moves his family to a gated suburban community to become the neighborhood's security chief. They soon discover that their new neighbors aren't as normal as they appear to be. The large cast includes Andrea Powell, Rhona Mitra, Marisol Nichols, Luke Mably, Travis Caldwell, Skyler Samuels, Chandra West, Colton Haynes, Janina Gavankar, Justin Miles, Victoria Gabrielle Platt, James Preston, Georgia Cole, Johnny Messner, Brett Cullen, Shannon Lucio, Devyn A. Tyler, McKaley Miller, and Louis Herthum.

Ratings expectations are lower in the summer months but the suburban supernatural series averaged only a 0.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 »

"Let Me In": The L.A. Premiere

28 September 2010 8:37 AM, PDT | TooFab | See recent TooFab news »

The stars of the flick " Let Me In " braved the record-breaking heat for the film's L.A. premiere last night, where they had one thing on their mind: Vampires. Chloe Moretz , looking adorable in a Betsey Johnson dress, plays fanged-one " Abby" in the new film -- and admitted even her supernatural alter-ego would have a hard time battling one of her other movie characters: The trash talking " Hit Girl " from " Kick Ass ." Chloe's young co-stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jimmy Pinchak compared " Abby " to the sparkling vamps of " Twilight " ... and even placed their bets on who would win in a fight. Also on the red carpet: Oscar nominated actor Richard Jenkins , " Hung " star/Kodi's sister Sianoa Smit-McPhee , Skyler Samuels from " The Gates " and " Look " star Ali Corbin -- who was wearing a "vegan" dress! Check out all the red carpet action above -- and more photos from the premiere here ! The movie opens this Friday. »

The Gates: New Supernatural Drama on ABC; Cancel or Keep It?

11 July 2010 3:19 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Though ABC didn't have much luck with their Eastwick drama, the network is trying another kind of supernatural series, The Gates, for the summer months. Will this one make it to season two?

The Gates revolves around a big city cop who moves his family to a quiet gated community where many of the residents aren't exactly what they appear to be. The ensemble cast includes Rhona Mitra, Colton Haynes, Frank Grillo, Janina Gavankar, Chandra West, Luke Mably, James Preston, Marisol Nichols, Skyler Samuels, Travis Caldwell, Victoria Platt, and Justin Miles.

The series debuted on Sunday, June 20th, to an unimpressive 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.78 million viewers. Considering all of the network's promotion, this was a disappointing start. The premiere ranked first in the demo and second in total viewers for the timeslot.

TV Review: Promising Supernatural Thrills of ABC’s ‘The Gates’

20 June 2010 8:22 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – After years of simply giving up to cable networks like AMC, USA, and TNT, the broadcast networks are trying to reclaim summer viewers; none more aggressively than ABC with three new shows debuting this week — “Scoundrels,” “The Gates,” and “Rookie Blue.” We’ve covered the first dramedy and will get to the cop show later this week but now is the time to break down the supernatural thriller in the middle that stands as the best of the three.

TV Rating: 3.5/5.0

The Gates” is a blend of the hit ABC soap opera “Desperate Housewives” and the country’s obsession with all things vampire from “Twilight” to “True Blood.” At its best, the show recalls a much earlier cult hit with a twist: The legendary “Twin Peaks.” At its worst, it feels like the countless copycats that followed David Lynch’s hit show.
