Nominations for the MTV Movie & TV Awards announced

MTV has announced the new categories and nominations for the first-ever MTV Movie & TV Awards, celebrating the actors, stories and moments that defined pop culture in the past year.

As part of the revamp, the nominations include transformations of both categories fans have come to expect as well as the introduction of new ones. While fan favorites like Best Kiss, Best Hero, Best Villain and more remain, MTV has collapsed the divide between film, television and streaming series, instead nominating the best performances no matter the screen. Also for the first time, the former Best Actor and Best Actress categories have been replaced with non-gendered Best Actor in a Movie and Best Actor in a Show.

Check out the full list of nominations here…

Logan And Get Out Lead The MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations

6 April 2017 4:04 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s only April, but already, 2017 has brought with it some terrific films and TV shows, several of which will be receiving honors from MTV, as the company looks to shower praise upon the best of the best with their annual awards show, which has received a name change. Instead of just being called The MTV Movie Awards, they’re now known as The MTV Movie & TV Awards. As always, there will still be a mix of more serious accolades along with some fun/lighthearted ones, and this week, the full list of nominees was released.

Leading the pack in terms of theatrical offerings are Logan and Get Out – easily two of the year’s best films so far – while the small screen nominations find Game of Thrones and Atlanta with the lion’s share of the attention. So, not too many surprises then. At least, not when it comes »

MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations Full List: ‘Get Out’ Tops Nominees; Show Goes Gender-Blind for Acting

6 April 2017 9:02 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The first-ever MTV Movie & TV Awards is already setting itself apart from the other awards ceremonies with two bold moves. The first is to go gender-blind when it comes to the acting categories; men and women won’t be segregated, but rather in competition with each other. That means you’ll get some very interesting matchups like “Atlanta’s” Donald Glover taking on the Khaleesi herself, Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones.”

Combining the gendered categories has been a debate for years, especially when it comes to performance-based achievements. The Television Critics Association doesn’t make a gendered distinction, instead lauding someone by genre such as Individual Achievement in Comedy. Of the bigger awards shows, the Grammys ditched the gendered categories a few years ago, opting for unisex titles such as Best Pop Solo Performance.

5 Things to Know: Dad’s Murder-Suicide of Twin Daughters Was Partially Recorded by 911

13 March 2017 11:13 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Mounting tensions between an estranged couple fueled an apparent murder-suicide Friday in Illinois, when police say a 48-year-old father fatally shot his twin teenage daughters before turning the gun on himself.

The killings left only one survivor, according to authorities: the girls’ mother, who was shot in both of her legs by her husband.

Police in St. Charles, Illinois, say the murder-suicide was preceded by months of domestic distress between Randall Coffland and his wife, Anjum Coffland, who were separated and living apart. According to investigators, Randall killed himself after shooting his 16-year-old daughters, Brittany and Tiffany Coffland, in the head. »

‘Love’ Season 2 Review: Netflix’s Relationship Comedy Delivers Heartbreak As Promised

11 March 2017 10:14 AM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Netflix’s “Love” may be one of the hardest TV series titles to search on Google. But the folks behind the show still like the title.

“It’s like how I love when I see a diner and it’s just called ‘Food,'” said executive producer Judd Apatow, speaking to IndieWire with stars Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs. “No need to come up with a fancy name.”

“You can’t get angry,” Rust added. “They’re like, ‘Hey, we promised food.'”

In a similar fashion, with the title “Love,” Apatow, Rust, and co-creator Lesley Arfin have promised to depict that most complex yet most simple of human emotions on the screen. But they don’t promise a happy ending, which makes the quasi-comedy at times a nerve-wracking experience. Perhaps that’s because the show remains firmly grounded in the real world, where happy endings are rarely a guarantee. »
