Warner Bros. & MGM Team for 'Tmnt' Writer's 'Tomb Raider' Reboot

25 February 2015 1:27 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

A reboot of the film adaptation of the video game franchise Tomb Raider has been percolating since 2011, but there hasn't been any solid progress in years. Now Deadline has word that Warner Bros. is teaming with MGM and producer Graham King and his Gk Films production banner to get the project back in action. Warner Bros. will co-finance and co-produce the film in addition to handling distribution. In addition, even though Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the duo behind scripts for films like Children of Men, Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, were previously hired to writer the film, a new writer has been hired. Evan Daugherty, the writer behind the reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Divergent and Snow White and the Huntsman, has been hired to script the reboot. For those not familiar with Tomb Raider, the film follows Lara Croft, an archaeologist and adventurer who isn't unlike a female Indiana Jones. »

'Tomb Raider' Reboot Fast-Tracked with 'Tmnt' Writer

25 February 2015 12:14 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Nearly two years after MGM and Gk Films announced their Tomb Raider reboot, Warner Bros. has boarded the project along with screenwriter Evan Daugherty. The scribe takes over writing duties from Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, whom Gk Films hired back in May 2011. No story details were confirmed at this time, although the reboot is expected to feature a much younger actress playing Lara Croft, as she goes on her first adventure.

Angelina Jolie first starred as Tomb Raider heroine Lara Croft in the 2001 video game adaptation Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which spawned the 2003 sequel Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life. Both movies earned over $443 million at the box office worldwide during their theatrical runs. The reboot does not have a director attached at this time.

Warner Bros. will co-distribute Tomb Raider with MGM, with Gk Films' Graham King producing. No production schedule was given, but the »

Warner Bros. And Writer Evan Daugherty Board Tomb Raider Reboot

25 February 2015 12:13 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

MGM’s big screen reboot of video game adaptation, Tomb Raider, has hit the headlines once more with news that Warner Bros. has joined the project. Now that the two studios are combining their efforts – WB will partner and distribute – could we be in for more of Lara Croft’s archaeological adventures sooner than we thought? According to Deadline that’s a strong possibility, as their sources indicate that “the reboot is on a fast track.”

Alongside this major development comes word that Evan Daugherty is now the latest in a long line of writers tasked with penning a script. His experience with big-screen blockbusters includes work on Snow White And The Huntsman, Divergent, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the upcoming G.I. Joe 3. This is the first we’ve heard on the screenplay side of things since Buffy showrunner Marti Noxon began work on a draft in 2013. Prior to her engagement, »

‘Expanse’ Cast and Producers Talk Outer-Space Bigotry (Video)

15 January 2015 11:04 AM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Yes, there is life in outer space — there’s even the capacity to be prejudiced about the other life around you.

That was the lesson to be gleaned from the Television Critics Association press tour panel for Syfy’s upcoming drama “The Expanse,” an adaptation of the book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, who write under the collective pen name James S. A. Corey.

The series takes place in a future where Earthlings have colonized out to the asteroid belt, where they’ve evolved into distinct societies with their own specific strengths — and specific biases, the cast and »

Syfy’s ‘The Expanse’ Expands The Lexicon Amid Struggle To Settle Outer Space – Video

A lot of new words and phrases being tossed about at today's TCA panel on Syfy's upcoming series The Expanse, set 200 years in the future: "Future noir" (from series star Thomas Jane), "planetism" (that's like racism but about conflicts between folks from different planets, from cast member Cas Anvar). Then we have "space opera," from pretty much everybody on the panel, which included Ep/showrunners Naren Shankar and Mark Fergus and actors Anvar, Jane, Dominique Tipper… »
