Blu-ray Review: Terrible ‘This Means War’ Denies Its Obvious Romantic Subtext

2 hours ago | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – McG’s “This Means War” could’ve been an interesting comedy if it had actually been about the undeniable love between its two male leads. Not since Lynn Shelton’s “Humpday” has a film so blatantly portrayed the homoerotic tendencies within close male friendships. Yet by denying its own subtext, the film is ultimately as clueless and insufferable as its one-note characters.

Fdr (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are CIA operatives who fall for the same woman, Lauren (Reese Witherspoon), and resort to all sorts of high tech humiliations to sabotage each other’s romance. Yet neither man’s feelings for Lauren appear to have any semblance of substance. Their competitive spirit mirrors the insecurity of frat boys who boast about the number of women they’ve slept with. Fdr and Tuck are so obsessed with each other’s sex lives that it’s clear that they just want to sleep together. »

Last Night on Late Night: Stephen Colbert on Being Maxim’s No. 69 Hottest

5 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Last night on The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert addressed a groundbreaking moment in the confines of sexiness: his inclusion as the first-ever male member of Maxim's hot list. "I am the Rosa Parks of men that Maxim readers want to see back up that bus," he exclaimed, "Beep, beep, beep!" And if he's No. 69, that means he's obviously prettier than you or your girlfriend ... or your boyfriend. And speaking of narcissism, David Hasselhoff gave Chelsea Handler a life-size cutout of himself — probably to admire while wearing Hoff-emblazoned sleepwear; and D.J. Qualls was also generous, delivering a decorative but toxic Queen Elizabeth II plate to Craig Ferguson. Watch our compilation to see what you missed. »

Charlize Theron Tested Chelsea Handler Friendship With Baby Secret

24 May 2012 12:11 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

TV personality Chelsea Handler was one of the first to learn about Charlize Theron's baby news - because the actress kept rejecting her offers to go out for a wild night on the town.

The Monster star adopted her first child, son Jackson, back in March but she kept her role as a first-time mum a secret from the press for several weeks.

And Theron admits she felt so guilty coming up with lies and excuses as to why she had to stay home, she finally shared her story with Handler - and begged the comedienne to remain tight-lipped.

The actress explains, "It actually goes to show what amazing friends I have because it didn't come out for several months. But I did find myself in weird situations.

"I met Chelsea Handler around that period and we became friends... and she said, 'Oh, you know we should go and have a drink.' And so every time she would be like, 'Let's have a drink,' I would come up with some horrible excuse. I was sick for like two months; I was like, 'Oh, my car battery is dead.' Like, whose car battery is dead?

"Then finally I was like, 'I have a baby! I can't go!' I eventually had to (tell her). Because she was like, 'What is wrong with you? If you don't want to be friends I will totally understand.' She kept it a secret." »

This Means War – Blu-ray review

Blu-ray Review

This Means War

Directed by: McG

Cast: Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, Chris Pine, Chelsea Handler

Running Time: 1 hr 37 min

Rating: PG-13

Due Out: May 22, 2012

Plot: A pair of CIA agents/best friends (Hardy and Pine) go to great lengths to try to win the affection of the same woman (Witherspoon).

Who’S It For? Unless you think Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are the two most attractive men on the planet, consider yourself Reese Witherspoon’s biggest fan, or love the comedic stylings of Chelsea Handler, you should steer clear of this one. Heck, I don’t think it would be worth it even if one of those does describe you.

Movie:

With poorly edited action, few laughs, and the presence of Chelsea Handler, this is a terrible film. It feels much longer than its mercifully short running time to the point where I feared I’d be »

Get ready for 'Mrs. Eastwood & Company' with 12 classic Clint Eastwood movies

On Sunday (May 26), the citizens of E! -- The Kardashians, Ice T and Coco, Chelsea Handler -- get some Oscar-level company with the premiere of "Mrs. Eastwood & Company."

While Clint Eastwood's second wife of 16 years, Dina, is at the center of the new reality offering (along with a couple of teenagers and about 30 family pets), Clint will appear in two episodes.

And any excuse to have a Clint Eastwood movie marathon is a good excuse ...

"A Fistful of Dollars" (1964): During a hiatus from his television Western "Rawhide," Eastwood went to Spain to work with director Sergio Leone on what would be the first Man With No Name saga. The rest, as they say, is history.

"Hang 'Em High" (1968): Proving he also could make an effective screen Western in the American style, Eastwood played a wrongful hanging victim saved, deputized ... and filled with vengeance.

"Where Eagles Dare" (1968): »

HollywoodNews.com: Chelsea Handler definitely isn’t afraid to make fun of people which is exactly why Cameron Diaz has been so afraid of her.

Diaz recently appeared on ‘Chelsea Lately’ and revealed her fear of the comedienne who will say what is on her mind, states UsMagazine.com. “You were the type of person who I knew if I got in front of you, you would just tear to me pieces and I’d be like, ‘How did you do that?’ I’d be so fragile,” Diaz admitted.

But Handler swears there is nothing to fear despite what she may seem like: “Just listening to you, I sound like the biggest bully in the world!”

Last Night on Late Night: Mariska Hargitay Went Psycho on Her Scramble With Friends Opponent

Last night on Late Night, Mariska Hargitay confessed to an addiction that went really w-r-o-n-g: Scramble With Friends. A certain "Mrs. Pittman," allegedly turned off by the actress's meager 200-points-per-game average, stopped playing out of the blue, and inadvertently triggered the psycho ex-girlfriend in Hargitay. She began contriving ways to bait Mrs. Pittman into a match, texting her — "Please, could you just give me one more chance?" — and even convincing twelve Law and Order Svu crew members to reach out to her. Plus: Rashida Jones and Craig Ferguson contemplated sock marks, swan attacks, and joint business ventures on a beach in Scotland; and Cameron Diaz finally overcame her fear of Chelsea Handler. Are You There, Chelsea?: Cancelled, No Season Two

12 May 2012 8:29 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

It's closing time for Chelsea and her pals. NBC has decided to cancel the low-rated sitcom Are You There, Chelsea? after 12 episodes and one season.

Based on a book by Chelsea Handler, Are You There, Chelsea? follows the life of an opinionated and unapologetic young woman (Laura Prepon) who lives life to the fullest as a cocktail waitress. She's many things to many people -- friend, daughter, sister, and sexually dynamic "advanced drinker." Others in the cast include Lenny Clarke, Lauren Lapkus, Jake McDorman, Mark Povinelli, Ali Wong, and (occasionally) Chelsea Handler.

The sitcom had a decent start -- registering a 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.18 million viewers -- but things went downhill from there.

Subsequent episodes of Chelsea saw big drops in the ratings and, over the course of the season, went as low as »

NBC cancels 'Awake' (and 3 others)

11 May 2012 2:21 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Time to close your eyes for good, Awake: The Jason Isaacs drama did not earn a pickup for fall after a lackluster first season. It only averaged 5.07 million.

NBC also said ta-ta to Are You There, Chelsea (3.34 million), Best Friends Forever (3.34 million), and Bent (3.05 million), three other comedies that failed to gain any traction this season.

The cancellations weren’t exactly a surprise, but then again — NBC just picked up another season of Whitney so Isaacs or Chelsea Handler could have received a stay of execution. To see all the shows that canned for fall — along with those that »

NBC Cancels Four Shows

11 May 2012 2:00 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

NBC has canceled "Awake," according to TVLine. The Kyle Killen-created drama got the axe from the Peacock network, as well as "Bent," "Are You There Chelsea?" and "Best Friends Forever." The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the cancellations.

The cancellation news comes hot on the heels of NBC renewing "30 Rock," "Parenthood," "Community," "Parks & Recreation," "Whitney," "Up All Night" and "Fashion Star."

NBC already ordered second seasons of "Smash" and "Grimm" and previously canceled 2011-2012 newbies "The Firm," "Prime Suspect, "Free Agents" and "The Playboy Club."

"Awake" starred Jason Isaacs as a police officer living in two realities, one where his wife is alive and not his son after a deadly accident, and one where it's his son who survived. He used clues from each reality to solve various crimes. The series debuted to about 6 million viewers, but has slipped to just over 2 million in recent airings.

Bent, Best Friends Forever, Awake, and Are You There Chelsea Canceled by NBC

NBC has officially canceled four underperforming midseason programs, though their fate had been sealed long before now. Getting the boot, according to TV Line, are Bent, Best Friends Forever, Awake, and Are You There Chelsea, three comedies making room for NBC's massive comedy order and a drama that couldn't find its feet on Thursday nights.

Bent garnered headlines for the unusual scheduling that NBC gave it, burning two episodes a week for three weeks to finish the six episode order, while Best Friends Forever was pulled before its final two episodes could air. Luckily, the adventures of Lennon and Jessica will be aired, as the fifth and sixth episodes will be premiering June 1st. Awake had its two hour finale cut to an hour to make room for Community and, as of now, has yet to be completely pulled from the schedule. »

NBC picks up tasteful, witty Dane Cook sitcom

11 May 2012 11:30 AM, PDT | Nerve | See recent Nerve news »

Everyone hates Dane Cook, right? I mean, everyone who isn't an eighteen-to-twenty-four-year-old bro, that is. Well, NBC doesn't, because they just ordered six episodes of Next Caller Please, in which Cook will play an abrasive, Howard Stern-esque (in their words, "alpha male") radio DJ who will clash hilariously with his new producer, a staunchly liberal feminist (who will in no way be some kind of one-note caricature). Sexual tension will almost surely ensue, because the various the various creative minds behind his projects continue to believe that Dane Cook is attractive, despite the fact that he looks like the kind of Jack Daniels-besotted, TapOut-shirt-wearing guy who grabs your girlfriend's butt at a bar, then tries to fight you over it.  Oh, and NBC is also cancelling Chelsea Handler's sitcom. Which is fine with me in practice, because Chelsea Handler is... well, she's [...] »
