Dmitri was born in Moscow on February 2, 1970, and went on to graduate from Moscow State University with a degree in journalism. In 1991 he became the general producer of REN TV, the first and largest privately held independent television production company in Russia. He founded the REN TV Channel in 1997, and then the REN-Film production company in 2000. Altogether, he has produced dozens of Russian film and TV projects, including the award-winning features The Return (Vozvrashcheniye) and The Banishment (Izgnanie). In addition to receiving many awards, The Return was the feature film debut of director Andrei Zvyagintsev.
In 2001 Dmitri was named Best Producer of the Year by the Russian Union of Journalists, and two years later he won the Peter the Great National Award (Russia's highest award in the field of management) for "outstanding contribution to the development of contemporary Russian film production." In 2004 he won a National TEFI Television Award in the Best Entertainment Program category for producing the New Year's show Negoluboy ogonyok.
In 2006 Dmitri launched REN Media Group, an international holding company for REN-Film and other companies of his, including Mini Movie International Channel. Dmitri launched MMIC in 2008 to produce, acquire, and distribute short films online. The same year he expanded further into TV and feature film distribution by acquiring the German TV network Das Vierte, which shows Hollywood classics and blockbusters.
