Ufc 168 Anderson Silva breaks his leg: Celebs react on Twitter

29 December 2013 10:00 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The Ufc fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman took an unexpected turn on Dec. 28 when Silva broke his leg while trying to kick his opponent -- the only person he'd previously ever lost a fight to.

The break was gruesome and horrifying and led to some calling the incident the worst in Ufc's history. It is even speculated that the injury could end Silva's career.

"There's no real excitement in a fight finishing like that because you never want to see anyone get hurt like that," Weidman says after the match.

Many took to Twitter to express their shock over the incident, including many celebrities. If you ever wondered which of your favorite celebs watch the Ultimate Fighting Championships, here is your answer.

Below is a collection of celebrity reactions to Silva's leg breaking.

That was an awful thing to see. And worse to hear . #Silva

Almost Human episode 6 review: Arrhythmia

19 December 2013 11:02 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Review Billy Grifter 19 Dec 2013 - 17:23

Almost Human returns to its early form with an episode that delves further into Drn subculture. Here's Billy's review...

This review contains spoilers.

1.6 Arrhythmia

In last week’s episode review I’d made a couple of wishes as to where I wanted the show to go, and magically this week they were partially answered.

But before I get to that, Arrhythmia was a neatly paced whodunit where the illegal distribution of artificial organs takes an unexpected direction. After a man dies asking demanding medical help at a hospital, it’s revealed that his artificial heart has a limited warranty, based entirely on his monthly ability to pay extortionists.

Kennex and Dorian are assigned the case, and immediately get side-lined when they encounter another Drn series working as a repair droid at the hospital. This subplot provided an interesting insight into those Drn androids that didn’t succeed, »

Almost Human – Geek Girl Navigating the World

19 December 2013 6:00 AM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

I’ve ended up watching a weirdly large number of cop shows in my lifetime. I don’t know what it is that sucks me in or why I persist in watching so many of them. Most of them have one thing in common, there are a couple of main characters who snap dialog off each other and usually get on each other’s nerves.

I’ve been a fan of shows like “Castle” and “Due South” for a long time. I’ve enjoyed “Psych” probably much more than I should. The shows that interject some humor into the situations the characters are in are the ones that, unfailingly, keep me as a viewer. Without something to break up all that darkness, a cop show just devolves into ever more depressing episodes and eventually, I’m going to go somewhere else and find something that I at least enjoy watching. »

New Couple Alert? Chris Evans and Alice Eve Spotted on Dinner Date in NYC

16 December 2013 4:43 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It's only been two months since Chris Evans split with Minka Kelly, but it looks like he's already smitten with another famous face. The 32-year-old actor was spotted on a dinner date in New York City with his 1:30 Train costar Alice Eve. The two were seen escaping the Big Apple's blizzard and grabbing a bite to eat at John's Restaurant in the East Village. Alice wore a black parka with a bright red handbag, while Evans kept warm in a baseball cap and wool jacket. Both stars arrived to the eatery separately but left together in Evans' chauffeured SUV. Evans is slated to make his directorial debut for the film, which deals with a woman being robbed at gunpoint in »

Almost Human episode 5 review: Blood Brothers

11 December 2013 1:58 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Review Billy Grifter 11 Dec 2013 - 09:56

Is Almost Human becoming disjointed due to a lack of overriding story arc? Here's Billy's review of Blood Brothers...

This review contains spoilers.

1.5 Blood Brothers

Last week the episode was allocated to giving Rudy more personality, and this week the spotlight shifts to Captain Maldonado (Lili Taylor) as the primary focus.

As the head of her department she clearly never read the bit in the leadership manual where it tells you not to get emotionally involved in a case. Something that seems very relevant to her battle of wills with super-smart Ethan Avery.

It starts as a courtroom drama, and then develops into a case when one of the women giving evidence is killed while giving said evidence. At that point surely the trial would be abandoned, as the jury would surely be influenced by seeing her gunned down? Nah, that happens all the time in the future, »

Almost Human, Ep. 1.05, “Blood Brothers”: Reimagines classic set-up and flourishes with improved character focus

10 December 2013 8:59 AM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Almost Human, Season 1, Episode 5: “Blood Brothers”

Written by Cole Maliska

Directed by Omar Madha

Airs Mondays at 8 P.M. Et on Fox

In its first few episodes since the action-packed series premiere, Almost Human has delivered thrills, humor, and clever integration of technology into the criminal and crime-fighting worlds, and this episode is no exception. “Blood Brothers” takes another step forward in creating memorable characters out of the people on both sides of an increasingly complex investigation and offers some answers to lingering questions.

So far, we’ve gotten to see a glimpse of Kennex’s personal life, which consists of synthetic limb maintenance and solitude. From what we’ve seen, he only interacts freely with Dorian during their morning commute (the highlight of every episode) and directly following the closing of a case. His loner tendencies raise questions about Dorian’s “private life”, such as where Dorian sleeps »

Can 'Almost Human' make the leap from good to great?

10 December 2013 6:00 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Five episodes into its life, Fox's "Almost Human" is doing several things pretty well and is shaping up to be a fairly enjoyable hour of TV. Yet it still feels like the show is searching for, and not quite finding, an extra gear that would move it from "pretty good" to "must-see."

Monday's (Dec. 9) episode was the show's best since its pilot, and it highlighted some of the things the show has gotten right thus far, in particular the way the show is applying its near-future setting to the cop-show form. That's not the easiest thing to pull off. But so much potentially rich storytelling ground was staked out in the pilot that it's been a little frustrating to see much of that recede to the background.

Let's start, though, by talking about what's working.

The future: Among the handful of people (who are probably mostly TV critics) who recall »

Berg: Rundown 2? Yes. Fnl Movie? No.

9 December 2013 6:37 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

A decade after its release, filmmaker Peter Berg is developing a sequel to his action-comedy "The Rundown".

Also known as "Welcome to the Jungle" in other parts of the world, Dwayne Johnson played an aspiring chef and bounty hunter who is sent to Brazil to retrieve his employer's wayward son (Seann William Scott).

From the sounds of it Scott won't be back, instead we'll see Johnson's Beck character on a new case. Berg tells Collider:

"We just met with writers, so we're trying to do it. I really want to do it. I've talked to Dwayne. I have an actor in mind that I can't say that I want to work with Dwayne on it, and we want to do it."

Berg, who is doing promo rounds for his true story tale "Lone Survivor," also had sad news for fans of his "Friday Night Lights" series - there won't be »

Lili Taylor and Minka Kelly Talk Almost Human Sci-Fi Work, Plus a TV Spot for Tonight’s New Episode

2 December 2013 9:00 AM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

In three episodes, Almost Human has established a great rapport and chemistry between leads Karl Urban and Michael Ealy, and according to co-stars Lili Taylor and Minka Kelly, that’s the way this first season is going to continue. They spoke with the media recently, and I asked them if working on a sci-fi show was different from other work they’ve done.

L. Taylor Well, for me it’s more interesting for me when it’s grounded in relationships. I’m a little Sci-Fi illiterate actually so I need to like educate myself on that for sure, but for me as an actor and so on if it’s not connected somewhere in the characters or in the relationship then the context doesn’t really resonate for me. And what I’m finding interesting about this is it is so grounded in the character—it feels character driven and »

Almost Human episode 3 review: Are You Receiving?

27 November 2013 4:17 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Review Billy Grifter 27 Nov 2013 - 12:15

Almost Human channels Die Hard in this week's episode, which doesn't quite live up to the promise of the first two...

This review contains spoilers.

1.3 Are You Receiving?

After a strong start, Are You Receiving? was the first episode of Almost Human where things felt a little like it was on rails. It didn’t really help that pretty early on it became obvious that the inspiration for this story was Die Hard, and it didn’t divert a single degree from that premise at any point along the way.

Bad guys invade a tall building and secure it against the police, you immediately start thinking Yippee-ki-yay, and very soon the only conclusion that you can draw is that they’re not terrorists but a criminal gang. Instead of there being one fly in this ointment there are two, Dorian and Kennex, avoiding the »

Almost Human, Ep. 1.03, “Are You Receiving?”: Continues to work towards greatness within procedural standards

Almost Human, Season 1, Episode 3: “Are You Receiving?”

Written by Justin Doble

Directed by Larry Teng

Airs Mondays at 8 P.M. Et on Fox

“Hello. I’m Detective John Kennex. I’m an automated police officer with a very difficult personality.”

Dorian’s summary of his partner serves as a check on the core relationship of the show as seen through the limited perspective of a sentient calculating machine as well as a progress report of Karl Urban’s character’s development thus far.

While the first two episodes acknowledged emotional aspects, this episode explores matters involving Kennex and Dorian’s physical well-being. This presents some interesting scenes for their characters individually as well as contributing to their relationship dynamic. Depicting Kennex’s amputee status as an ongoing issue when his artificial limb (or futuristic prosthetic) begins to squeak is a great continuation of the show’s efforts to map »

‘Almost Human’ Continues to Shine in Episode 3

After last week’s two-night premiere event, all eyes are on Almost Human for their next installment, to see if the new series can maintain the high bar it set for itself. Thankfully, 2048 appears to be alive and well on Fox, as this week’s episode, “Are You Receiving?”, reveals that J. H. Wyman’s futuristic tale has no intentions of slowing down. (But will it?)

In this Dredd-esque adventure – written by former Fringe writer Justin Doble – a shape-shifting twist on the familiar game of cops and robbers forces Kennex (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) to combine their powers with the Lapd “home team” – Maldonado (Lili Taylor) and Stahl (Minka Kelly) – in order to save many hostages ...

'Almost Human's' Karl Urban: 'It's a realistic vision of the future'

25 November 2013 3:00 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Back in the 1960s, "Star Trek" was a generally positive view of humanity, and the time-traveling alien of the BBC's "Doctor Who" has always had a soft spot in his hearts for the people of Earth.

But a large percentage of sci-fi visions of the future are dark ones, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic, positing a world destroyed by pollution, overpopulation, asteroid strike, plague, rampant technology, zombie invasion or "Sharknado" -- take your pick.

That's not what series creator J.H. Wyman (aka Joel) wants you to see in his new sci-fi drama "Almost Human," airing Mondays on Fox. He shares executive-producer credit with J.J. Abrams (with whom Wyman worked on "Fringe") and Bryan Burk ("Lost").

"I'm always writing about the same thing," he says, leaning forward towards Zap2it in his chair at a Beverly Hills hotel bar, "which is, life is valued by the connections that you make. I believe in »
