Two bits of casting news today for some lovely leading ladies (although only one of the roles is actually a lead). Here are the headlines: Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) is set to join Tracks for director John Curran (The Painted Veil). The Australian-set picture is based on Robyn Davidson's trek across the heart of the island continent. Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) will join Precious director Lee Daniels' historical drama, The Butler, based on the life of Eugene Allen, who served on the White House staff from 1952 to 1986. Hit the jump for more. Variety reports that Wasikowska is set to play Davidson, a young woman who traveled almost 1,700 miles across the desert of Australia. Davidson made the trek with four of her camels, becoming known internationally as, "The Camel Lady." Also accompanying Davidson were her faithful dog and Rick Smolan, a National Geographic photographer, who will be cast in the coming months. »

All right, all right, looks like we’re going to see Matthew McConaughey and Minka Kelly in the White House sooner than we thought! You assumed they would be leaders of the free world at some point too, right? In our opinion that would make more sense than their latest roles, seeing as how Shame director Lee Daniels has cast the Killer Joe actor and Fright Night Lights actress as the famous couple in his sprawling historical drama The Butler. The film, starring Forrest Witaker, follows the life of a White House butler who worked under eight different presidents, including John Cusack as Richard Nixon, a casting choice which seems even crazi…actually, no. That still makes a little more sense than putting Minka in a pill box hat. Or McConaughey in a shirt that isn’t held together with tear-away snaps.
Maybe we’re just biased because the last time we saw these two, »

Before Lenny Kravitz landed the role of Nurse John in the Oscar-winning 2009 film "Precious," directed by Lee Daniels, his film credentials were mostly comprised of soundtrack selections.
Now, he's a big star in "The Hunger Games," but for his next job, he's going back to his film roots and re-teaming with Lee Daniels for his next biopic piece "The Butler."
According to The Film Stage, Kravitz's role in the film is unconfirmed, but the story details the experience of eight-time presidential butler Eugene Allen, who was profiled in the Washington Post.
Allen worked in the White House from 1952-1986 and saw the arc of the Civil Rights movement transpire from within the presidential manor. Daniels calls the picture "ultimately a father-son story with a civil rights backdrop."
Minka Kelly was also recently added to the cast, and she'll portray former First Lady Jackie Kennedy.
Forest Whitaker will lead the picture as the butler, »

The last time a young, brunette starlet was picked to play Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy, it was Katie Holmes, handed a job she wasn't especially well-suited for in the troubled TV miniseries The Kennedys. Lee Daniels's upcoming film The Butler has pretty much nothing in common with that project, except that as a chronicle of Eugene Allen's 50-year service as a butler in the White House, the Kennedys are going to stop by-- and he's, yes, casting another young brunette to play Jackie O. This time the job may go to Friday Night Lights star Minka Kelly, whom Lee Daniels told Screen Daily he's chosen to play the First Lady. She'd be joining a massive, mighty impressive cast that's already on board, including a few Lee Daniels veterans-- Oprah, who co-produced Daniels's Precious, is playing the wife of the titular butler; Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Nicole Kidman will »
