The Mayor: Cancelled Soon? ABC Orders Three More Scripts for Struggling Sitcom

Last week, the situation for The Mayor TV show on ABC was dire enough that co-star Yvette Nicole Brown took to social media to rally/warn the fans that The Mayor was in danger of being cancelled. Now, instead of issuing a full season order, the Alphabet Network has ordered three additional scripts for season one of the sitcom. Remember, a script order does not guarantee that the studio will produce and the network will air those episodes and is sometimes used as a stop-gap measure, while a network figures out if a series is worth saving. An ABC comedy from creator Jeremy Bronson, The Mayor stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, and Brown. After years of drudgery, hip-hop artist Courtney Rose (Hall) runs for office to boost his music career and accidentally wins the election. The first

The Mayor: ABC Star Addresses Sitcom's Low Ratings

Stop me if you've heard this one. A new show kicks off with lackluster ratings, so the cast and/or crew try to rally fans online, so that it won't be cancelled. Yvette Nicole Brown, who knows all about TV series cancellations, co-stars on The Mayor TV show on ABC. The Community veteran took to social media over the weekend to remind viewers that if the sitcom doesn't draw more viewers (particularly those in Nielsen households), a second season renewal is unlikely. An ABC comedy from creator Jeremy Bronson, The Mayor stars Brandon Micheal Hall, Lea Michele, Bernard David Jones, Marcel Spears, and Brown. After years of drudgery, hip-hop artist Courtney Rose (Hall) runs for office to boost his music career and accidentally wins. Nothing says comedy quite like a rap about cheddar chesse. Performer of the Week: The Mayor's Brandon Micheal Hall
The Performer | Brandon Micheal Hall

The Show | The Mayor

The Episode | “Pilot” (Oct. 3, 2017)

The Performance | Let’s be real: As terrific as The Mayor‘s ensemble cast is, ABC’s freshman comedy was always going to live or die based on the strength of — duh — its mayor. Luckily, Hall is hella strong.

From the get-go, the Search Party vet had us eating out of the palm of his hand, as wannabe rap star Courtney Rose went from goofily flirting with his kicks to gossiping with his mom (Yvette Nicole Brown, sublime as ever) to admitting that he was only running

Everyone on The Mayor Loves Each Other as Much as You Might Love The Mayor

Everyone on The Mayor Loves Each Other as Much as You Might Love The Mayor
Our favorite new show of the season is finally here! ABC's The Mayor topped not only our list but many other lists of best broadcast shows of the fall, and there are a lot of reasons for that. The show is sweet, sharp, and hilarious, but its best asset is its cast, led by Brandon Micheal Hall, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Lea Michele.  Hall plays young rapper Courtney Rose, who runs for mayor as a publicity stunt and then unexpectedly wins. Brown plays his funny and loving mom Dina, who's a postal worker.  They're delightful individually but the mother/son relationship is particularly sweet, and seems to translate into real life.   "I learn something from...
