Kat Von D Sued Over House Fire

11 hours ago | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D has been dragged into a legal battle over a Hollywood Hills home destroyed by fire.

The reality TV star, who briefly dated Sandra Bullock's ex Jesse James, is being held accountable for the 2010 blaze, which claimed the life of her pet cat.

Lawyers representing State Farm Insurance have filed a lawsuit against Von D in Los Angeles, insisting she owes the company almost $1 million (£625,000).

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ.com, the tattoo artist placed several lit candles in the house - and the candles then set the house on fire. »

Cannes: Andrew Dominik Says He's Aiming To Make "Emotional Nightmare Fairy-Tale" Marilyn Monroe Biopic 'Blonde' Next

25 May 2012 9:05 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

After a few years in the wilderness after the masterpiece "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" underperformed at the box office, Andrew Dominik's third film -- initially titled "Cogan's Trade" after the George V. Higgins book on which it's based, and later retitled "Killing Them Softly" -- came together quite quickly. The first hints emerged in September 2010, and within a few months it had a star and producer in Brad Pitt, a distributor courtesy of The Weinstein Company, and rolled in front of cameras in early 2011.

But with the film having premiered at Cannes this week (read our review here), we began to wonder what happened to "Blonde," Dominik's Naomi Watts-starring adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' novel about Marilyn Monroe. That film was long-mooted to be his next project after 'Jesse James,' and was originally set to get underway in January »

Photo: What The Blink 182 Album Cover Model Looks Like Now

24 May 2012 11:40 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

The album cover for Blink 182's Enema of the State is one of the enduring images of the late '90s. Prepare yourself, because that image is about to change.

Adult actress and exotic dancer Janine Lindemulder posed for the cover, suggestively donning a blue glove and affecting an expression which ignited the imagination of many a teenage Blink 182 fan. But 1999 was some time ago, and time, as they say, changes everything.

The first image below is the album cover. The second is a photo of Lindemulder from the Hays County Sheriff's Department. She was arrested in January of 2011 for three outstanding warrants. (The images began recirculating online after a Redditor posted them.)

Lindemulder was famously married to Jesse James (yep, that one). The two were engaged in a bitter custody battle over their daughter, Sunny. The 2011 arrest was just one incident in a long line of legal troubles for the actress, »

Cannes: Andrew Dominik On The Violence, Politics & Look Of 'Killing Them Softly' With Brad Pitt

24 May 2012 11:19 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

In what turned out to be a banner year for the movies in 2007, "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" ended up somewhat overshadowed. As fellow neo-Westerns "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country For Old Men" swept up plaudits and Oscars, the picture, the second by Australian director Andrew Dominik, was plagued by post-production battles and an indifferent release by Warner Bros., which saw it come and go to in theaters fairly quickly in limited release. But by decade's end, many had since rediscovered the picture as one of the finest of the '00s, and as such, Dominik's first film since, crime tale "Killing Them Softly," was one of the most eagerly anticipated pictures of the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Based on the novel "Cogan's Trade" by George V. Higgins, the film is a politically charged thriller about the fall-out when two junkies rob a protected, »

Brad Pitt Reveals Why He's Acting Less

24 May 2012 6:30 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Cannes, France -- Brad Pitt is making the movie star thing look darn easy.

Since he last collaborated with Andrew Dominik, he's starred in the Coen brothers' "Burn After Reading," David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," Terrence Malick's "The Tree of Life," and Bennett Miller's "Moneyball."

It's been arguably the best stretch of his career, one vacillating between comedy and drama and defined not by summer blockbusters but by provocative director-oriented fare.

The bookends to the period are Dominik's "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" and "Killing Them Softly," which made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

Things are going great even as Pitt insists that movie-making is not his top priority.

"Right now, I'm just attracted to being a dad," said Pitt in an interview in a hotel penthouse in Cannes. »

Five Things Learned from the “Killing Them Softly” Press Conference At Cannes & Five New Photos From The Film

A film that probably needs no introduction at this point, “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” filmmaker Andrew Dominik’s “Killing Them Softly” has been setting the Croisette ablaze with high praises coming from all around, including our own reviewer who called it “brilliant and angry,” and most notably “the anti-thriller for our times.” Following George V. Higgins’ 1974 novel “Cogan’s Trade” (the film’s title before it went all The Fugees on us), ‘Softly’ follows a point man named Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), whose job it is to scout locations for a hitman, only now he finds himself wrapped up in an investigation involving a heist of mafia assets during a poker game. For anyone who saw and loved the vastly underrated ‘Jesse James’ (we certainly did »

Cannes Review: Andrew Dominik’s ‘Killing Them Softly’ Is An Artfully Crafted Take on the Gangster Genre

22 May 2012 5:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Andrew Dominik always had an ominous mountain to climb with his next feature, having polarized opinion with The Assassination Of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford, that most tonal and visually textured of revisionist Westerns, but with Killing Them Softly he has certainly at least avoided the black hole that tends to suck young talents perilously down into obscurity. He might not, however, have scored a huge commercial hit. Taking a leaf out of Jesse James‘s book, Killing Them Softly is effectively a post-gangster film, deconstructing the genre and smashing it against the oh-so-contemporary wall built by recessions and austerity measures. The label might still seem to read “gangster,” with the presence of wise guys and henchmen presiding over their own lawless patches of the murky underbelly of normal society, but gone is the aspirational elements of Goodfellas and Casino in favor of a tight-belted, thoroughly modern revision of the gangster ideal. Cannes: Brad Pitt is menacingly good in the scuzzy, snazzy underworld movie 'Killing Them Softly'

22 May 2012 8:29 AM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

I wasn’t nearly as wild as a lot of critics about The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford — I thought it was too long, too arty and slow, too in love with its moods and images. Yet it was clear that the director, the New Zealand-born Australian Andrew Dominik, was very gifted. Whenever Brad Pitt appeared as Jesse James, the screen vibrated with menace, even though Pitt seemed to be doing almost nothing. As good as he had been before (in, say, Fight Club), I thought that the Jesse James performance was the place where Pitt »

Scott Speedman, Canadian gangster

9 May 2012 1:27 PM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Like American outlaws Jesse James and John Dillinger, in the late 1940s and early 1950s Canada had Edwin Boyd, our own notorious bank robber who somehow managed to gain public support and become a media darling.

In director Nathan Morlando's Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangster, Toronto native Scott Speedman (The Vow, Barney's Version) plays Boyd, a World War II vet who returns home to Toronto with dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. But he also has a wife (Kelly Reilly) and young family to support, and after being rejected by a Toronto acting school and quitting his job as a bus driver, he starts robbing banks to pay the bills, using his charm and flair for the dramatic to do it with style.

We spoke with Speedman, who earned a Best Actor Genie nomination for his performance, after the movie’s premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. »

Countdown to Cannes 2012: Killing Them Softly

8 May 2012 4:12 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The number two slot in our most hotly anticipated films of this year’s Cannes film festival goes to Andrew Dominik’s third film – following the excellent Chopper, and the beautifully crafted The Assassination of Jesse James

Killing Them Softly, which of course was initially called Cogan’s Trade, follows the director’s trend of making crime pictures: adapted from George V Higgins’ classic 1974 crime novel, the film follows Brad Pitt’s enforcer Jackie Cogan who is called upon to clean up after a high-stakes card game is heisted. There is no doubt potential for Driver style stylised hyper-violence, and the tacky rename does imply something more generically crass than we will probably get, but the opportunity to see such a plot through Dominik’s own artistic filter is hugely intriguing.

I can’t resist the parallels with the excellent Ben Affleck project The Town, and indeed this could well »

Garret Dillahunt Says First Cut Of 'Killing Them Softly' Was 2.5 Hours, Not Sure If He Made The Final Edit

25 April 2012 9:41 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Director Andrew Dominik is no stranger to long first cuts. As anyone who followed the tortured post-production on the director's contemporary classic "The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford" knows, the director battled Warner Bros. over the length and tone of the movie, and numerous editors were brought in to try and cut down a film that reportedly originally ran more than three hours. Regardless, the resulting film was magnificent and Pitt remained one of the director's biggest supporters. They reteamed for "Cogan's Trade," which was recently retitled "Killing Them Softly," and it looks like the director had a lot of material to work with once again.

Garret Dillahunt, who played the simple Ed Miller in 'Jesse James,' is part of the large ensemble rounded up for "Killing Them Softly," but he reveals that his part was relatively minor and may not have survived the editing room. »

Garret Dillahunt's Triple Play

Although he's currently starring on a weekly television series, Garret Dillahunt doesn't like repeating himself -- he strives to, with every project, bring to life a character he's yet to play. Something that will become very evident over the next few months as a trio of striking new films hit screens, each boasting a new incarnation of the actor.

The Tribeca Film Festival plays host to two -- Any Day Now and Revenge For Jolly -- while September brings about his bad guy role in the time-twisting Looper, from director Rian Johnson. I caught up with Garret to talk about all three as well as find out what he's hoping to see next season on Raising Hope.

Cannes 2012 Line-Up Revealed With New Films From Dominik, Kiarostami, Nichols, Audiard, Haneke & More

After we got the news last night via a trailer that David Cronenberg‘s Cosmopolis would be joining the Cannes line-up, the rest of the titles have been revealed. It’s a strong one, with Andrew Dominik‘s Assassination of Jesse James follow-up being my most-anticipated of the bunch, along with the next features from Abbas Kiarostami (Certified Copy) and Jacques Audiard (A Prophet). We’ve also got new films from Michael Haneke, Take Shelter’s Jeff Nichols, Lee Daniels, Ken Loach, John Hillcoat and Walter Salles.

There are a good amount of rumored titles missing, as Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master, new Terrence MalickDerek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines and Park Chan-wook’s Stoker are nowhere to be found.
