25 May 2012 7:29 AM, PDT | National Ledger | See recent National Ledger news »

Ethan Hawke is to star as a time-traveling crime fighter in 'Predestination'. The 'Dead Poets Society' actor will portray a government agent who is sent out on a number of time-travel missions in order to stop future killers, and the action-thriller movie will see him reunite with director brothers Michael and Peter Spierig for the first time since 2009 sci-fi horror 'Daybreakers'. The Spierig brothers - who have penned the screenplay for the motion picture - are quoted by Variety as saying: '''Predestination' is based on the classic Robert A. Heinlein short story 'All you Zombies'. No, it's not a zombie flick but it's one of our favorite short stories and is unlike anything you've ever read before. ''The short is on many sci-fi lists as one of the greatest short stories of all time, and the mother of all time paradox tales. Heinlein is considered one of the »

Sony Buys Ethan Hawke Sci-Fi Film; Kino Go to ‘Another Country’; Entertainment One Get ‘Freaky Deaky’

Wouldn’t you say some Ethan Hawke news is always a good way to start things off? (Well, unless we’re talking about a few of his recent career choices.) Variety reports that Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions have snatched rights to Predestination, a sci-fi action piece that will see Hawke reunite with the Spierig brothers, with whom he collaborated on 2010′s Daybreakers. Just as that film zeroed in on the vampire subsect of the horror genre, this next effort will revolve around the oft-used, oft-misused conceit of time travel.

The siblings’ main source on Predestination happens to be “—All You Zombies—,” a late ’50s short story from author Robert A. Heinlein that they hold as “the mother of all time paradox tales.” In their screenplay, Michael and Peter Spierig focus on “the life of a temporal government agent” (I love the way that sounds) who, not unlike the character in Rian Johnson‘s Looper, »

Ethan Hawke Will Time-Travel in Predestination

24 May 2012 9:02 AM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

I love me some time-travelin’ action movie, which means I’ll probably end up loving the crap out of the Spierig Brothers’ new movie “Predestination”. Chances of me not loving the crap out of this? Probably around 10%. I’m not the biggest fan of Hawke, but he’s usually pretty good in sci-fi stuff, ala “Gattaca”. Hawke will be re-teaming with his “Daybreakers” directors Michael and Peter Spierig, who have written a script called “Predestination” based on the short story “All you Zombies” by sci-fi writer Robert A. Heinlein, the man who gave us “Starship Troopers”. Hawke would play “a temporal government agent sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to stop future killers” in the movie. Sounds intricate! So why this movie, Spierigs? Glad you asked. The Spierigs answer in a press release: Predestination is based on the classic Robert A. Heinlein short story ‘All you Zombies. »

Ethan Hawke Time-Travelin’ in Sci-fi Actioner Predestination

24 May 2012 8:11 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

I remember when the Brothers Spierig broke through with their down home sci-fi/zombie flick “Undead”, a film that I simultaneously liked and loathed. The low-budget film got them noticed by Hollywood, and led to the futuristic vampire flick “Daybreakers”, another title that left me a little confused about its quality. Now you can add the sci-fi time-travel actioner “Predestination” to their resume. Michael and Peter Spierig will be re-teaming with their “Daybreakers” star Ethan Hawke on “Predestination”, an original script that they wrote, though one based on the 1959 short story “All you Zombies” by the great Robert A. Heinlein (“Starship Troopers”). The movie would find Hawke playing “a temporal government agent sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to stop future killers.” If the movie stays even remotely close to the original story, it would be quite the, er, identity crisis. Ethan Hawke to Star in Predestination for The Spierig Brothers

14 May 2012 3:23 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Ethan Hawke is set to reteam with his Daybreakers directors The Spierig Brothers, time-travel actioner Predestination. Based on the 1959 Robert Heinlein short story “All You Zombies,” this one concerns a covert temporal manipulation agency that’s tasked with jumping into the past to prevent/facilitate certain key events. Hawke will play an agent who must take highly inventive action to ensure his very existence. The original Heinlein story is a witty, mind-bending temporal-paradox that plays heavily with perspective. It’s unclear at this point exactly how closely the film will follow it; hopefully, the answer is: to the letter. Because, without spoiling anything, this one’s got a doozy of a last-act reveal. Hit the jump for more. Per Variety, production will begin in Australia in early 2013. Arclight Films will produce. Michael and Peter Spierig showed a lot of visual panache with sci-fi- vampire flick Daybreakers, which I assume will »
