This week, we turn our attention towards Green Lantern Corps, since there were recent developments on that front recently. The film recently snagged David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Blade) and Justin Rhodes (Grassroots) to write the script, with DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns producing and overseeing the project. There's also been talk that it'll have a sort of Lethal Weapon vibe to it, and that it'll sort of base itself off of the Sinestro Corps Wars.

Naturally, this news got all of us here at Lrm talking, »

Final Oscar Predictions: 5 Lingering Questions With Nominations on the Way

18 January 2017 5:15 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Ballots were due on Friday and the nail-biting will finally cease at 5am on Tuesday, Jan. 24. It’s been another jam-packed phase one for Oscar season, though one that didn’t have quite as many twists and turns as you’d expect. After all, a certain musical started the season as the presumed frontrunner, and it hasn’t budged since.

Of course, as soon as you think you’ve got it all figured out, the Academy keeps you on your toes. So how will the nominations for the 89th annual Oscars play out next week? There will be surprises, surely. There always are. Figuring out what they might be is the fun. Check out my final picks if you’re curious to know one guy’s opinion, but as we head into this final lap, a few lingering questions remain.

How many best picture nominees will there be?

Penultimate Oscar predictions before the nominations are announced

18 January 2017 6:07 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

It’s not far off. In less than a week now, the Academy Award nominations will be announced. Voting has come to an end, so the results basically have been tabulated. It’s just a waiting game at this point. Like an expectant parent, you’ll find me pacing around, a concerned look on my face. What will the Academy do? Will La La Land tied the record for most nominations by a single film? Will any other movie come close to matching that one’s total? Those questions and more are what I’m attempting to pin down. You’ll see what I’m predicting below, but just remember…these aren’t my final picks just yet. I know it’s only been a few days since the last update, but that’s the nature of the beast in this final week. What you’ll see below is a »

Warner Archive Delivers the Best Way to Enjoy a Bad Day at Black Rock

Pick of the WeekBad Day at Black Rock [Warner Archive]

What is it? A one-armed man arrives via train in a remote western town, and the populace reacts with suspicion and violence.

Why buy it? Spencer Tracy excels as the polite but mysterious stranger whose presence sets everyone on edge, and the more he probes the harder they push. The film explores threads of America’s deep-seated racism and small-town insulation, and it pairs that commentary with a steadily increasing suspense. The themes and actions here are still sadly relevant, even now, and it makes for an important watch that still manages to entertain. Tracy’s potential adversaries include Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Walter Brennan, and »

Stranger Things Star Matthew Modine Joins Sicario Sequel Soldado

14 January 2017 8:00 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Back in 2015, director Denis Villeneuve exploded onto the scene with drug thriller Sicario, a smart, intense and overall impressive piece of filmmaking that left just about everyone pleased. That being said, it didn’t exactly call for a sequel, and with both Villeneuve and star Emily Blunt choosing to move on, it was hard to muster up too much excitement when one was originally announced.

Thankfully, then, things have been coming together rather well for the follow-up, which is titled Soldado. Taylor Sheridan is back again on scripting duties, and in the director’s chair is Stefano Sollima. In front of the camera, meanwhile, are returning stars Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin. Now, we’re hearing about an exciting new addition to the cast, as Stranger Things star Matthew Modine has signed on to play Defense Director James Ridley “opposite Catherine Keener, who plays his Deputy Director.”

Speaking about his plans for the sequel, »

The My Little Pony movie just scored another big-name talent, with news coming today that Guardians Of The Galaxy and Star Trek star Zoe Saldana has signed on for a voice role in the October 6, 2017 film. Saldana—whose next big project is Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, out in May—joins a cast that includes Kristin Chenoweth, Emily Blunt, Taye Diggs, Liev Schreiber, Sia, Uzo Aduba, and Michael Peña, plus the original cast from the massively successful My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

Hasbro also released a logo for the new movie, featuring the first glimpses of the film versions of the show’s “Mane 6” for fans (including, presumably, Billy Bob Thornton) to fall in love with, to a more-or-less literal degree.
