10 Actors Who Rejected Marvel Superhero Roles

11 September 2017 12:49 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel movies are big business, from the Avengers franchise and all of the interconnected heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on screens both big and small, to Fox's ever-expanding world of the X-Men and Deadpool, to the Sony steered Spider-man movies, going all the way back to Sam Raimi's original trilogy. But that doesn't mean every big name actor and A list talent in Hollywood wants to be associated with these characters. Some heavyweight actors have straight up said no way when Marvel came knocking. So, who would do such a thing?

Since becoming its own studio, which was later acquired by Disney in one of the biggest studio deals this side of Lucasfilm, Marvel has had no problem attracting top-tier A-list talent to its roster; the talent who commands major ticket grosses and critical acclaim alike. Who doesn't want to suit up as a one of Marvel's Merry Mutants, »

Wind River review – Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen team up in smartly chilly thriller | Peter Bradshaw's film of the week

7 September 2017 7:30 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

In Taylor Sheridan’s gripping, satisfying drama, an FBI agent and a game tracker hunt a killer on the loose in the wintry vastness of Wyoming

‘Just the snow. And the silence. That’s all.” With these agonised words in the movie’s dying minutes, a key character summarises its two ambient ideas: a deathly whiteout in the piercing cold and an oppressive quiet, far from the city’s bustle where help in a crisis might conceivably be at hand. Screenwriter Taylor Sheridan – who scripted Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario and David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water – now makes his hyphenate debut as a writer-director with this gripping movie, muscular in its confidence and storytelling punch, the kind you could call a western forensic thriller. There’s some Cormac McCarthy in here, and a tiny bit of Patricia Cornwell. We get country lore and the wearing of stetsons, and scenes »

Blade Runner 2049 Poster Threatens to Break the World

24 August 2017 11:35 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Warner Bros. has released a new poster for Blade Runner 2049, which offers a closer look at Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard, Ryan Gosling's Agent K, Ana de Armas' Joi and Jared Leto's Niander Wallace. The poster features an interesting color scheme, with the left half a bright red-orange color, with the right half a cool blue color. This is only speculation, but this poster could be offering a subtle hint about the story.

Back in June, director Denis Villeneuve explained that this movie will confirm once and for all whether or not Rick Deckard is a Replicant, but this poster, which surfaced on Blade Runner Twitter, offers some interesting visual cues. Three of the characters, Agent K, Joi and Niander Wallace are all displayed with the bright red-orange hue, which could signify their heat signatures or the blood coursing through their veins, meaning they're actual real people. »

You might have missed the exhilarating work director Doug Liman, and his stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, gave us in the summer of 2014 with “Edge of Tomorrow.” The film only earned $90 million at the box-office, and while you might have dismissed the film as a sci-fi “Groundhog Day,” you weren’t exactly wrong. However, Liman’s film was more than just a gimmick.

Jeremy Renner Will Break His Arms If It Lets Him Make a Movie Like ‘Wind River’ — Career Watch

Welcome to Career Watch, a vocational checkup of top actors and directors, and those who hope to get there. In this edition we take on Jeremy Renner, who stars in Taylor Sheridan’s indie hit western “Wind River” with fellow-Avenger Elizabeth Olsen.

Bottom Line: Renner has built his movie stardom and used it to smart advantage, ranging from archer Hawkeye in “The Avengers” to throwing banter with Simon Pegg in “Mission: Impossible.” Those movies make it possible for him to be a magician in love with a Frenchwoman (Marion Cotillard) in James Gray’s “The Immigrant,” or the pompadoured Camden, New Jersey Mayor Carmen Polito in David O. Russell’s “American Hustle.”

Career Peaks: Renner had been a working actor for 13 years, supporting himself with construction and house-flipping (and roles as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and zombie killer in Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later”) when he broke out at age 37 as the fearless, »
