Emmerdale actors Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock are to host a Zombie Film Festival in Leeds for a sixth consecutive year.
The pair, who play friends Paddy Kirk and Marlon Dingle on the ITV1 soap, will screen a collection of movies featuring the walking dead at the Cottage Road Cinema in Headingley on Sunday, April 21.
Six films - a mix of modern and classic movies - will be shown over 12 hours at the event, which runs from midday to midnight. One film in particular called Before Dawn is very close to Brunt's heart as he starred and directed in it.
Brunt said: "Mark and I have been spending our time arguing and fighting over the lineup and it's a strong year mixing foreign, classic and brand new. Every single film is a crowd pleaser.
"Also, I cannot wait to show Before Dawn to its own rightful crowd as we couldn't show it last year.

Before getting into the penultimate edition of when comedy meets horror, let’s get into the honourable mentions.
Treevenge is a Canadian short film about Christmas trees getting revenge that has an evil dead attitude to gore, from the director of Hobo with a Shotgun. Feast, a siege movie starring Henry Rollins as a group of drinkers are hit by mysterious monsters, the film also boats as referential pallet for video games. Dead & Breakfast, a comedy horror musical in which a night at a local bed and breakfast turns into a supernatural fight to the death. Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream could be included, because if we learned anything from Black Dynamite, it’s that all Blaxploitation films are ripe for parody. There are countless other films that could be included; this endeavour could easily stretch to around the 150 films mark. Until tomorrow, the last one is The Cottage, a...

★★★☆☆ Bravely attempting to shake the onset of rigor mortis from the tired and overcrowded zombie sub-genre, Keith Wright's low-budget British zom-com Harold's Going Stiff (2011) displays a surprising amount of heart and tenderness for a film of its ilk. Utilising the tried-and-tested mockumentary format (though not confined to it for the film's entirety), we watch on as titular Oap Harold Gimble (Stan Rowe) slowly succumbs to Onset Rigors Disease (Ord), a neurological virus sweeping through the nation's male populace.

Today's selected trailer of the day at the Sydney Film Festival is the zombie comedy Harold's Going Stiff. About the film: Fashioned in the style of a BBC regional documentary about a sensitive local health issue, Keith Wright's very funny and surprisingly touching tale investigates 'Onset Rigors Disease', a mystery illness turning men in the north of England into something resembling bloodthirsty ghouls. Far removed from the shuffling hordes of Dawn of the Dead and the sprinting flesh-eaters of Zombieland, the semi-dead creatures here are geezers like Harold, a lovely old man whose gradual transformation into something sub-human might just be arrested by the love of Penny, a dedicated home care nurse looking to put a little zing into her love life. Embedded below is the trailer. ...

Austin Film Festival is over for another year. This year I saw fewer films than I have in the past, but I have to say I'm really proud of the way Austin and Texas were represented overall. The newly re-named and expanded Texas Independents program was a big hit.
I didn't get much of a chance to see films that didn't have a local connection, but thankfully I did get a chance to see the delightfully poignant Harold's Going Stiff (writer/director Keith Wright pictured above with an unknown Aff guest). I was also pleasantly surprised with Sironia, which hopefully will play again in Austin soon, as it was a real crowd pleaser with some outstanding music. You Hurt My Feelings was a surprise because it's such a sneaky little quiet movie, one that may be the breakout film for Steve Collins and John Merriman (pictured below).

Director: Keith Wright Writer: Keith Wright Starring: Stan Rowe, Sarah Spencer, Phil Gascoyne, Andy Pandini, Richard Harrison, Molly Howe, Eleanor James The last thing the world needs is another zombie movie. But Harold’s Going Stiff has a mad spark of genius behind it. Why not fuse the zombie genre with the kind of sober, earnest documentary you might see about a pressing public health concern on British television? In fact, this film succeeds by embracing that uniquely English tendency to deny and repress, to shudder at the messy, and come up with all manner of euphemisms to disguise the unpleasant. The result is a subversive, hilarious mock documentary about a new medical affliction called Onset Rigors Disease (Ord) that has been striking the male population of rural England. Ord begins with a stiffness in the limbs that becomes so debilitating that its victims begin to lurch around. Phase 2 sufferers exhibit mental impairment (i.

Just when you thought the Brits had cornered the market on reinventing the zombie genre, writer/director Keith Wright brings us a fresh new take in Harold's Going Stiff, which won the Austin Film Festival Narrative Feature Competition this week.
Using a mockumentary structure, Wright introduces us to pensioner Harold (Stan Rowe), whose stiffening joints and painful muscles aren't merely old age. he titular Harold is the first known sufferer of "O.R.D." or Onset Rigor Disease, an infliction that starts with painfully stiffened muscles and ends up with the classic diminished intelligence, lack of speech and violence of a zombie-like state. His new visiting nurse Penny (Sarah Spencer) cheerfully tortures Harold with painful therapies to help him keep the disease from progressing. In the meantime, controversy reigns over vigilantes hunting down the afflicted who've reached the final stage of the disease.

Wow, spellcheck just exploded there with zomedy but what better way can there be to explain the new feature film Harold's Going Stiff from writer and director Keith Wright. The idea of the zombie comedy is nothing new but there seems to be an abundance of low budget flicks in the pipe for the genre...
Harold's Going Stiff was shot entirely on a digital Slr camera in about 6 days. It's also coming out of the UK and it's going to be hard not to compare it to Colin. Another low budget zombie flick. Harold's Going Stiff looks great and it was a surprise to learn it was all shot on a camera that most people probably have kicking around their house.
Here's the plot synopsis from the official site. "Lonely pensioner, Harold Gimble, has become the first man to suffer from a new neurological disease that is slowly turning him into a zombie-like state.

Sure, the title might sound like something you’d find in the back room of a seedy mom-and-pop video store, but Keith Wright’s 2010 effort “Harold’s Going Stiff” is actually a very promising zombie comedy that chronicles one man’s gradual transformation into one of the living dead. If you’re going to make a zombie flick these days, this is actually the way you should approach your concept. Watching the same bloody story over and over again gets a little tiresome, especially when the filmmakers bring absolutely nothing new to the cinematic dinner table. Wright, on the other hand, has a unique perspective on this overwhelmingly overplayed subgenre, and the results certainly look intriguing. Here’s what the story’s all about: Lonely pensioner, Harold Gimble, has become the first man to suffer from a new neurological disease that is slowly turning him into a zombie-like state. Harold...

Last night, former Tennessee Congressman/outspoken helicopter enthusiast Harold Ford, Jr. decided not to run in New York Democratic primary against incumbent senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Today, he has written a catty New York Times op-ed about how badly the Democrats are ruining everything, and why everyone was way too mean to him to expect him to still want to swoop in and just fix it. Ford was the victim of the Democratic establishment’s schoolyard-style bullying, with name-calling and everything! “I don’t know. Seems like a nice guy,” teased Manhattan Democratic chairman Keith Wright in January. Ford has another name for people like Keith Wright, and that word is “ironic”: “The cruel twist, of course, is that the party bosses who tried to intimidate me so that I wouldn’t even think about running against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, who had been appointed to the seat by Gov. David A.
