Aisha Hinds, Tequan Richmond, Alex Henderson, Sierra McClain, Olivia Dawson and Jason Weaver have all been cast in Showtime's pilot ordered hour-long drama created, executive produced and written by Lena Waithe, and executive produced by Common. Produced by Fox 21, the untitled project is described as a timely coming-of-age story of a young African American male, in which just growing up can be a matter of life and death. In addition to Waithe and Common, the pilot will be executive produced by Aaron Kaplan and Elwood Reid, and directed and executive produced by Clark Johnson, with filming set to beg in Chicago later this year. "The two creative forces behind the show, both hailing from Chicago's South Side, give this pilot an unparelled authenticity," said David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. The Bridge” co-creator Elwood Reid has boarded Showtime’s drama from creator Lena Waithe and exec producer Common, as a new exec producer, the cabler announced Thursday.

The Chicago-set coming-of-age story, which revolves around a young African American man in Chicago’s South Side, has assembled a strong cast of six African American actors for the pilot, whose names Showtime also released today.

 

Tequan Richmond (“Everybody Hates Chris,” “General Hospital”) will star as Emmett, an attractive, young African-American teen who believes his sexual prowess is what defines him, but there are consequences, as he has fathered three children by three different women. However, his attitude about what it means to be a man will be challenged when he’s forced to raise one.

Under the Dome” alum Aisha Hinds will play Emmett’s (Richmond) young, single mother, Jada.

TCA 2015: John Landgraf reveals that Ronald Reagan will be a character in the network’s acclaimed anthology series

FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf offered details about the upcoming second season of FX’s anthology series “Fargo” at the Television Critics Association press tour on Sunday, saying that Round 2 of the series will be “big” and “sprawling.”

Landgraf also expressed his regrets over the cancellation of the border drama “The Bridge” after two seasons, noting that, while he was personally an ardent fan of the series, he couldn’t justify a renewal given its continued rating slide. »
