Anti-bullying served as the theme of Thursday night’s L.A. fan screening at the Tcl Chinese Theatre of “The Duff,” where cast members shared their own stories of high school bullying and experiences with not fitting in.

The Duff” (an acronym for “Designated Ugly Fat Friend”) is adapted from a young adult novel by Kody Keplinger, and stars Mae Whitman (“Parenthood”), Ken Jeong (“The Hangover”), Allison Janney (“The Help”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”) and Nick Eversman (“Wild”).

“I was super-nerdy, and I got bullied a lot and labeled a lot,” said Whitman, who added that she was a tomboy in high school. “It was not a pleasant experience, which is why I was really passionate about doing this movie.”

But things turned around for her. “The people who shine the brightest are the ones they try to tear down the most,” she said. When asked if these sorts of stereotypes apply to actors, »

5 February 2015 8:51 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Whether you loved or loathed Kevin James’ bumbling, titular character in the 2009 surprise hit, the unlikeliest of unlikely heroes is back for another action-packed spiel in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.

Set six years after the events of the original, Mall Cop 2 will pick up at a time when Blart has reluctantly agreed to kick back and spend time with his family. But as the trailer suggests, a hero is never off duty. So, when he stumbles upon a dangerous threat during his time at a Security Guard Expo in Las Vegas, it’s up to him to grab the bull by the horns and foil the criminals’ plan before it takes into effect.

Aping Oceans 11 with its large-scale casino heist set-up, the jury is still out on whether Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 can emulate the surprising box office success of its predecessor. Nevertheless, we’re just holding out »

Week in Review: Martin Scorsese’s ‘Silence’ is finally getting made

23 January 2015 10:26 AM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

One of the most anticipated films of 2015 is Martin Scorsese’s Silence. Although that anticipation was under the presumption that Silence would actually come out this year, let alone be made. The film has been in pre-production for ages, by Marty’s account, nearly two decades, but the film is finally coming together with funding from Fábrica de Cine and SharpSword Films, Deadline reported.

Silence stars Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver (yes, he’s in Everything now) as two Jesuit priests in 17th Century Japan on a mission to spread Christianity and locate their mentor, played by Liam Neeson. The pair face incredible, violent persecution while on their journey, and the film has been likened to Scorsese’s last East Asia epic, Kundun.

Silence is based on a 1966 novel by Shūsaku Endō and is adapted from a script by Jay Cocks, who worked with Scorsese on his last long delayed period piece, »

Ronald Reagan Will Be Played By A Disney Star In An Upcoming Biopic

21 January 2015 4:05 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It's been about five years since it was first announced that Former President Ronald Reagan would be getting his very own biopic, and apparently it's taken that long for the project to find an actor to star. But now the search is finally over, and it's been revealed that former Disney star David Henrie will be starring in the film as the actor-turned-politician. This news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, which says that Henrie is now locked in to star in Reagan - though it's also interesting to note that the biopic won't actually be told from his perspective. Instead, the story will be told from the eyes of a Kgb officer who was apparently keeping a close eye on the future president as far back as when he was serving as the Screen Actors Guild president and taking a staunch anti-communist stance. At this time, the project »

Disney Star David Henrie Will Be Ronald Reagan In New Biopic

21 January 2015 3:52 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

I know that you were waiting with bated breath to find out who would play Ronald Reagan in the upcoming (and cleverly titled) Reagan, so I shall keep you in suspense no longer. Ronald Reagan will be played by…David Henrie!

Who is David Henrie, you ask? I am not really sure, but some of the younger crowd among us might know. Henrie is a Disney star, apparently, renowned for his roles on Wizards of Waverly Place and That’s So Raven. The slightly older members of the TV-going community might know him from How I Met Your Mother, on which he played the role of the son. Now he’s going to take on the part of a young Ronnie Reagan, back when he was a bad actor and stern anti-communist.

Rising Star David Henrie is Young Ronald Reagan in a Biopic About the President’s Hollywood Years

21 January 2015 11:47 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Ronald Reagan has been portrayed plenty over the decades, but this year seems to be especially hot for the actor-turned-politician. He is reportedly an actual character in the second season of the Fargo TV series, and now there’s an update on an upcoming biopic about the world leader way before becoming the President of the United States. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will focus on Reagan’s early years as an actor, through his time as the head of the Screen Actors Guild. That presumably covers the 1940s and 1950s, including his divorce from Jane Wyman and meeting and marriage to Nancy (Davis), but the actor just cast for the lead role in the movie is former Disney Channel star David Henrie (The Wizards of Waverly Place), and he’s only 25. Reagan turned 25 in 1936, a year before he even made his first film appearance in Love is On the Air. More »
