New Series at Forefront of WGA Nominations

17 February 2017 10:15 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Every great project begins with a writer, and maybe that’s why no major guilds’ awards delivered more nominations to freshmen TV series this year than the WGA.

The guild’s lovefest with new small-screen titles begins with a category specifically designed to honor writers for their work on a first-year show: the new-series category.

The nominees include four fresh shows that have been racking up noms, and some wins, across various guild awards — FX’s “Atlanta,” Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” NBC’s “This Is Us,” and HBO’s “Westworld” — and also includes FX’s critically hailed “Better Things,” which has largely flown under the radar with other groups.

But even beyond that category, first-year series made a big showing. “Atlanta” is up for comedy series writing against returning nominees “Silicon Valley,” “Transparent,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and “Veep,” while “Stranger Things” and “Westworld” are up for drama series writing opposite “The Americans,” “Better Call Saul »

Exclusive: 'This Is Us' Star Jon Huertas Reveals the Craziest Miguel Fan Theory He's Ever Heard!

15 February 2017 5:55 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

There are some pretty crazy This Is Us theories out there!

Every Tuesday, the NBC dramedy tugs on our heartstrings and tantalizes us with clues from the Pearson family's past, and this week's episode was no exception. In addition to a gut-wrenching Jack (Milo Ventimilgia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) Valentine's Day fight, fans were also given a glimpse to another side of Jon Huertas' mysterious character, Miguel.

We know that in This Is Us' past timeline, Miguel was Jack's best friend, and in the future he's Rebecca's second husband -- but what's the most outrageous fan theory about his romantic transition? "That Miguel killed Jack," Huertas revealed with a laugh to Et's Nichelle Turner on Wednesday.

Not to worry, Jabecca fans -- Huertas assures us this is one theory that is definitely false. "What kind of show are you watching? This isn't some murder mystery!" the 40-year-old actor said.

This Is Us Season 1 Episode 15 Review: Jack Pearson's Son

14 February 2017 9:11 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

How can so much beauty come at a time of so much heartbreak?

I've been waiting for an hour like This Is Us Season 1 Episode 15, that not only brought Kevin and Randall closer, but did the same for Kate and Toby.

Swinging into the past for a big bump in Jabecca's marriage, hints at the tragic nature of Jack's death and Randall's suffering, though, weren't what I expected as part of the package.

There's no good way to address any of this, and frankly, I want to leave a good portion of it to you guys to discuss in the comments. I'm just going for broke here.

Thank God Kate told off Duke and got expelled from camp. Sure, it was fantastic that she had the opportunity to wrap her head around some massive issues while there, but if the owners of the place thought it was cool to have »

Exclusive: Milo Ventimiglia Admits No One Recognized Him After He Shaved Off 'This Is Us' Beard

14 February 2017 7:30 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Milo Ventimiglia caused quite a stir last week when he shaved off his signature This Is Us beard and mustache, leaving many fans to wonder what this meant for Jack Pearson.

Et’s Denny Directo caught up with Ventimiglia at the NAACP Awards on Saturday, where the 39-year-old actor was still adapting to his clean-shaven look. “It’s a little cold,” he joked to Et.

Ventimiglia admitted that the physical transformation has even affected his interactions with his co-stars and crew.

“The funny thing is, they got so used to the mustache that now I walk around with no mustache and they don’t recognize me anymore,” he shared, confirming that the bare face is for This Is Us. “So I got a couple days of anonymity, which is nice.”

Is Randall all right?!

It seems that each and every week, This Is Us throws another heart-wrenching hurdle at us, and now we're currently concerned with Randall's health. During a blink-and-you'll miss it moment in last week's episode of the smash NBC dramedy, Randall's hands shook viciously as he reached for a glass of water, and now we're left wondering what this means for the eldest Big Three sibling.

"You probably need to have some tissues," Sterling K. Brown warned to Et's Denny Directo over the weekend at the 49th annual NAACP Awards. "At the end of last week, Randall's hand was shaking and whatnot, so it doesn't get too much better."

Susan Kelechi Watson, who plays Brown's on-screen wife Beth, confessed that all fans can do is "hope" that Randall's new health issues will resolve itself. "I can say that in next week's episode we will see what evolves out of that," she teased »

This Is Us Creator on Randall’s Health, Kate’s Temptation and Rebecca’s ‘Critical’ Decision

8 February 2017 10:28 AM, PST | | See recent news »

A version of this article originally appeared on

The last episode of This Is Us ended with Jack and Rebecca at a somber Pearson ceremony: A funeral. (Rebecca was merely attending, of course, while Jack was the one eternal-resting in an urn.) This week’s episode began with another pivotal Pearson ceremony, albeit one that was much more upbeat: Jack and Rebecca’s wedding. They celebrated their nuptials with a kiss on the courthouse steps and then listened to a lovely speech by everyone’s (some people’s? anyone’s?) favorite spouse of Rebecca, Miguel (Jon Huertas).

This Is Us star Chrissy Metz has an undeniable bond with her TV dad, Milo Ventimiglia, but in real life, her relationship with her own father is nonexistent.

Et’s Kevin Frazier was with the 36-year-old actress on our set in Studio City, Calif., where she revealed her biological father, who was in the Navy, hasn’t been a part of her life since she was 8 years old following her parents’ divorce.

“I was the youngest child and I felt like, ‘Ok, this is great, but I never felt like we really bonded, and then, when my parents got the divorce, it was like, we just didn’t have a relationship,” Metz tells Et. “There was a lot of resentment toward him about leaving and how do you leave your children. We never know people’s full [stories] and I don’t obviously know everything that he was going through.”

Ventimiglia, 39, noticed and got together his cast members and crew to film the big moment.

“This family is actually watching our show. We’re filming next door. We’re going to go knock on their door. Come on!” the actor said, setting up the scene before he ran over to the glass door.

“We happened to notice what you’re watching right now. You’re watching us!” Ventimiglia told a stunned Fred, as he and the crew laughed at the impromptu surprise.

Exclusive: 'This Is Us' Star Justin Hartley Talks Kevin's Rocky Reunion With Ex-Wife, Warns of a 'Dark Turn'

There have been plenty of surprises on This Is Us. But none more so than Kevin’s shocking revelation that he was once married to his childhood sweetheart.

Tonight’s brand new episode, titled “I Call Marriage,” explores the theme of marriage in its all its beauty and ugliness, from Kevin’s desire to reunite with his ex-wife and Kate’s young engagement to Toby, to Jack and Rebecca’s big day and possible marital strife between Miguel and Shelly. For Kevin, attempting to start anew with Sophie (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) marks a new beginning for the former Man-ny star.

“The more you get to know him, he’s not at all what I thought he was at first glance,” Justin Hartley tells Et ahead of Tuesday’s episode. “This whole thing Kevin’s fighting is this perspective that other people have of him and him being like, ‘That’s not me.’ And yet, here »

Exclusive: Get Your Tissues Ready! 'This Is Us' Composer Reveals His Secret to Making You Cry

6 February 2017 2:30 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

This Is Us is in rarefied air, thanks to compelling storytelling, heartbreaking performances and tear-jerking twists. But the most underrated ingredient to its incalculable success is something that’s right under everyone’s nose: the score. Composer Siddhartha Khosla, of Goldspot fame, is the man responsible for opening up those tear ducts -- not that the show needed the help.

Khosla has deep ties to This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, with whom he attended University of Pennsylvania more than two decades ago. After dipping his toe in television scoring with Fogelman’s acerbic alien comedy, The Neighbors, it was almost a no-brainer when his college pal floated him an early script for This Is Us last spring seeking out his thoughts.

“It was thoughtful, beautiful [and] honest. It made you cry,” Khosla recalls in a chat with Et. “It pulled at your heartstrings in a really beautiful way and inspired me to write. That was the »
