Al Benton was born on March 18, 1911 in Noble, Oklahoma, USA as John Alton Benton. He was an actor, known for The Kid from Cleveland (1949). He died on April 14, 1968 in Lynwood, California, USA.

During Benton's final major-league season, in 1952 with the Boston Red Sox, he faced Mantle, who was playing his first full season with the Yankees.
Upon his death from a motel explosion in Lynwood, California, he was interred at Park Lawn Memorial Park in Commerce, Los Angeles, California.
