‘All Eyez on Me’s’ Benny Boom to Direct LAPD Thriller ‘The Shave’

All Eyez on Me” director Benny Boom has signed on to direct the police thriller “The Shave” for Route One Entertainment.

Route One Entertainment CEO Russell Levine and Lost City president John Finemore are producers on the project along with Maiden Voyage’s Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus, and Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen from Mxn Entertainment.

The Black List script, written by Thomas White and Miles Hubley, tells the story of an Lapd officer, recently exonerated in the murder of a high school honor student, who visits the boy’s father at his barbershop. While receiving a straight razor shave, he listens to the father recount the story of his son’s life.

Charlize Theron comedy 'Tully' lands at Focus Features

Distributor acquires North America and multiple territories to upcoming Jason Reitman feature.

Focus Features has acquired Tully, which reunites Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody with Young Adult star Charlize Theron.

Focus acquired North America, the UK, Italy, Spain, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.

Wme Global represented North American rights and Sierra/Affinity handles international sales. Tully will open in the Us on April 20, 2018.  

Reitman directs from a screenplay by Cody about a mother of three, including a newborn, who forms a bond with a new night nanny gifted to her by her brother.

Joining Theron, currently riding high on the $1bn-plus exploits of The Fate Of The Furious, are Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass, and Ron Livingston.

Tully is a Bron Studios, Right of Way, Denver & Delilah, and West Egg Production.

Charlize Theron’s Comedy ‘Tully’ Lands at Focus for April 2018 Release

Focus Features is acquiring North American rights to Charlize Theron’s comedy “Tully” with an April 20, 2018, release date.

News broke a year ago that Theron, Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody were teaming on the then-untitled project. The trio last worked together on 2011’s “Young Adult.” Bron Studios came on to finance last May.

Focus disclosed Thursday that it had also bought international rights including U.K., Italy, Spain, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.

Tully” also stars Mackenzie Davis (“The Martian”), Mark Duplass (“The League”) and Ron Livingston. Theron plays a mother of three including a newborn, who is gifted a night nanny — played by Davis — by her brother, played by Duplass. The two women eventually form a unique bond.

J.C. Spink, Manager and ‘The Hangover’ Producer, Dies at 45

Manager and producer J.C. Spink, who founded Benderspink with Chis Bender and produced comedies like “The Hangover,” died Tuesday at his home in West Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed to Variety. He was 45.

Spink was found unresponsive in his home by his brother and pronounced dead at 8:18 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the coroner. A cause of death has not yet been revealed. An autopsy will be conducted, and he appeared to have died of natural causes. Foul play is not currently suspected.

The relentlessly upbeat Spink was well-liked by the Hollywood community for his good humor and industriousness. Even as the spec market began to dry up in Hollywood over the past decade, Spink remained as active as ever with dozen of projects in development. Issa Rae Joins Bill Hader in Drama-Comedy ‘Empress of Serenity’

Insecure” star Issa Rae is joining Bill Hader in the drama-comedy “Empress of Serenity,” directed by “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” author and screenwriter Jesse Andrews.

Good Universe is producing “Empress of Serenity,” centered on a lawyer who’s coerced into taking an ocean cruise in order to bond with his estranged father. Production is planned for August.

Producers are Stephen Chbosky along with Mr. Mudd’s Lianne Halfon, Russell Smith, and John Malkovich. The same group produced “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”

Gregor Jordan's ‘Dirt Music’ to shoot in Wa

Two features, Wonderful Unknown and Dirt Music, as well as a six-part drama series from Greer Simpkin and David Jowsey, are set to shoot in Western Australia, thanks to the $16 million Wa Regional Film Fund.

The fund, launched by the state government.last year, is designed to attract local and international productions..

".Eight months after its launch, the fund has helped secure its first Hollywood-Australian feature and UK-Australian feature as well as a major Australian television series," said Wa Culture and Arts Minister John Day.

.It is estimated they will contribute more than $14 million to the Wa economy..
