DreamWorks Animation Releases Film Schedule Through To 2014

9 March 2011 2:38 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

DreamWorks Animation have announced a very exciting total of nine films to be released in the coming five years.

Three of the nine will be sequels to previous successes (Kung Fu Panda 2, Madagascar 3, and How To Train Your Dragon 2), and the rest will be originals – albeit, with Puss In Boots being a spin-off from the Shrek franchise.

The release schedule looks as follows:

Kung Fu Panda 2, 26th May, 2011

Puss In Boots, 4th November, 2011

Madagascar 3, 8th June, 2012

Rise Of The Guardians, 21st November, 2012

The Croods, 1st March, 2013

– Turbo, 7th June, 2013

– My And My Shadow, 8th November, 2013

– Mr. Peabody & Sherman, 21st March, 2014

How To Train Your Dragon 2, 20th June, 2014

Looking down the list, it doesn’t seem too far-fetched a prediction to expect the studio to have nine very successful films on their hands. The three sequels will naturally attract and build on the original audience, »

Today DreamWorks Animation issued a press release announcing their theatrical plans through 2014 featuring six original films three sequels based on Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar and How to Train Your Dragon franchises. Or, at least, that's how they put it. You could also include the Shrek franchise in there as well as Puss in Boots hits theaters on November 4 along with Kung Fu Panda 2 on May 26 as the studio's other 2011 release.

I will get to the details on the list of films in a second, but I thought I would first reference Rumblewick, which was announced as going in production last week via a press release that also included the above piece of art. Disney and Pixar have always been the undisputed champions of animation but a new contender has been rising in the ranks over the last several years: DreamWorks. The studio that brought us the Shrek films, Antz, Chicken Run, Madagascar, Bee Movie and many others has been fighting the good fight for the better part of a decade and while they have yet to over take Disney and Pixar, their upcoming slate sounds like they're once again swinging for the fences. On Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation announced their upcoming slate all the way from this summer's Kung Fu Panda 2 through 2014 when they'll release How To Train Your Dragon 2 on June 20. In between, they're preparing original films featuring the likes of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher, Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone and many others. After earning many new fans with How to Train Your Dragon last year, Dreamworks seems to have gotten a fresh start in their animated department. While they have the sure-to-be-awful Puss in Boots on the way, Dragon and the popular Kung Fu Panda are getting sequels, and there seems to be a shift in focus towards more creative-based projects- certainly a change from their usual, calculated approach towards CG fare. Check out the release dates below:
