Executive Vice President, CBS News (1984-1986)

Was named Chairman & CEO of the Sony Corporation Worldwide (he was previously head of Sony Corporation of America, which was all of Sony's Entertainment Assets, such as Columbia & TriStar movie studios, television units, music enterprises, and home video units). This was a landmark change in Sony's organization because this was the first time a westerner was tapped to lead a traditional Japanese-run company [2005].

Was responsible for wooing David Letterman over to CBS when he was president of CBS in the early 1990's. Letterman took the contract over a dispute of not being named the successor to Johnny Carson on NBC's The Tonight Show [1993].

Fought in the Vietnam War and was given the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for meritorious achievement for service in Vietnam (1965-67)

Hired Andrew Lack (former President & COO of the NBC Television Network) to run Sony Music Entertainment after Tommy Mottola stepped down. Lack and Stringer worked together at CBS News in the 1980's.
