Sky1 HD‘s latest original drama is a two-part adaptation of the John Meade Falkner adventure novel, Moonfleet. Ray Winstone will play Elzevir Block, the leader of a band of smugglers in 18th century Dorset, England. He’s joined by Aneurin Barnard (The White Queen, Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes) who plays a young newcomer to the smuggling crew as they embark on the hunt for a lost diamond. Ashley Pharoah, creator of the original Life On Mars, wrote the adaptation that also stars Ben Chaplin, Omid Djalili and Sophie Cookson. Shooting starts this summer in Dublin. Company Pictures, producer of Starz/BBC series The White Queen, is producing Moonfleet in association with Ireland’s Element Pictures. Bletchley Circle‘s Andy de Emmony directs and Endeavour‘s Dan McCulloch produces. Exec producers are Huw Kennair-Jones, John Yorke, Claire Ingham, Pharoah and Patrick Spence. Sky Atlantic and Starz have announced that they are working on their first co-production.
The UK and Us networks will work together to bring new drama series Fortitude to screens.
Fortitude will focus on the story of a seemingly safe town that is rocked when a murder is committed in its midst. The series will follow Sheriff Dan Anderssen as he tries to uncover the truth behind the brutal death of a British research scientist.
Fortitude will be a Fifty Fathoms / Tiger Aspect production, and will air exclusively on the channels in 2014.
It is written by Simon Donald and will be executive produced by Anne Mensah and Madonna Baptiste for Sky, and Patrick Spence and Simon Donald for Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect. Colin Callender will be the executive producer for Starz.

On the heels of collaborating with the BBC on the upcoming period drama The White Queen, Starz has teamed with another British network for a a drama project with a straight-to-series order. Starz and Sky Atlantic HD have given a 13-episode order to Fortitude. The drama, from Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect is written by Simon Donald, creator of the 2006 British miniseries Low Winter Sun, which is being remade as a series by AMC. Executive producing for Starz is Colin Callender, who has a deal at the pay cable network and also exec produces The White Queen. Also executive producing Fortitude are Donald and Patrick Spence for Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect. This marks the first partnership between Starz and Sky.
