They're Back

23 September 2011 8:39 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

"Once upon a time, there were three young women who got into very big trouble…"

And that's how the new series introduces us to the three new Angels - ex-cat burglar Abby (Rachael Taylor), former dirty cop Kate (Annie Ilonzeh) and disgraced marine Gloria (Nadine Velazquez). Yet, the same can also be said for the three actresses that signed on for this "Charlie's Angels" ABC reboot.

Sadly, there's nothing here that distinguishes this from the original "Charlie's Angles," except that Bosley is now a smooth womanizing computer hacker named Bos (Ramon Rodriguez)

We learn from an opening Charlie voice-over that the Angels are on a mission to rescue Sarah Daniels, a 16-year-old being held captive by the legendary unseen trafficker Baharo. Long story short, thanks to some kung-fu magic -- and the fact that Bosley somehow has access to a 'satellite camera' that can see inside the room (insert groan »

The Angels Learn Just How Dangerous the Job Is on 'Charlie's Angels' (Video)

22 September 2011 5:30 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

Filed under: Reality-Free, Recaps, TV Replay

Well, if the creators wanted the fate of Gloria to be any sort of surprise for the viewers of this 'Charlie's Angels' (Thu., 8Pm Et on ABC) series premiere, they should have handled things a lot differently in the promotion of the remake.

Imagine the shock we could have had in seeing one of the Angels die in the very first episode. Now, that's exactly what happened, but it was Nadine Velazquez instead of one of the three women we've seen everywhere promoting the show.

When the episode began and Minka Kelly wasn't in the trio of ladies saving the day, we knew Gloria's days were numbered. But ABC could have had a much bigger reaction if they'd pretended Velazquez was a cast member all along, even giving her lead billing in this premiere rather than seeing her name tacked on as a guest star. »

'Charlie's Angels' review: An unnecessary reboot

21 September 2011 11:41 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

It was hard to put our finger just exactly on what we didn't like about "Charlie's Angels." It's a flashy show full of hot girls kicking butt, taking names and solving crimes, set in glitzy Miami. It's not trying to be the next Best Drama Emmy winner, so what's not to like?

We finally figured it out - hot girls kicking butt are everywhere. Maybe back in 1976 this concept was unique and new. But now, from shows like "Alias" to "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" to "Nikita," it has become commonplace to see hot chick action stars. So a "Charlie's Angels" reboot has to offer something else in order to work.

And it doesn't.

The premiere episode is heavy on the exposition - there is a whole big backstory with ex-military angel Gloria (Nadine Velazquez), who is killed (sorry, it happens early, it's not a spoiler) and then replaced by street »

CBS Rounds Out Revamped Cast Of Rob Schneider Comedy Pilot

5 August 2011 6:50 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Exclusive: Diana Maria Riva and Spanish actress Claudia Bassols are set to co-star opposite Rob Schneider and Cheech Marin in the Schneider's untitled CBS comedy, which is shooting a new pilot for midseason consideration as part of a recent order that also includes several backup scripts. The multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton based on the actor's real-life experience, stars Schneider as Rob, a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. Bassols will play his wife Maggie and Riva his mother-in-law Rosa, roles played in the original pilot by Nadine Velazquez and Ada Maris, respectively. Riva's age (she is younger than Schneider, who plays her son-in-law, and way younger than Marin, who plays her husband) suggests a possible trophy wife scenario. This completes the recasting of the CBS Studios/Tannenbaum Co. project, with new cast members Marin, Riva and Bassols joining pilot regulars Schneider, »

Rob Schneider's Comedy Remains In Strong Contention For Midseason At CBS

17 May 2011 9:30 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

CBS is keeping the untitled Rob Schneider comedy in strong contention for midseason. Since CBS ordered only two new comedy series, Two Broke Girls and How to Be a Gentleman, there has been speculation that the network may pick up a third one. Chatter quickly focused on the untitled Rob Schneider multi-ethnic comedy. I hear the show has been given permission to hire writers, which is usually a promising sign. There is no pickup decision by CBS yet, but the network has been in active discussions on the project, and a midseason order as early as today is a possibility. Alternatively, the network also has been mulling ordering a second pilot. In any case, the project is expected to undergo some retooling if it goes forward. The multi-camera comedy, which Schneider co-wrote with Lew Morton, stars Schneider as a confirmed bachelor who has just married into a tight-knit Mexican-American family. »
