She’s got a Top 20 hit with her single “Issues,” but Julia Michaels has been writing chart-toppers for pop’s elite for years.
Born in Davenport, Iowa, and raised in L.A., the rising star began writing songs at age 12, when she started backing her poems at the piano. By 15, she found a mentor in the industry. Fast forward 10 years, and Michaels is responsible for cowriting some of the biggest hits in music, from Justin Bieber‘s “Sorry” to Selena Gomez‘s “Hands to Myself.”
And now her solo pursuit of superstardom is looking even more promising with her impressive debut Ep, »

ABC’s “American Idol” reboot has made headlines for bringing Ryan Seacrest back as host and for bringing on Katy Perry as a very well-paid judge, but the singing competition show still has two judges’ seats to fill before its 2018 debut.
Last month, insiders said Lionel Richie, Charlie Puth, Luke Bryan and Keith Urban were in advanced talks to potentially join Perry on the judges’ panel, and while those names are very much in the mix, Variety has learned the decision has not been made, but ABC is starting to lock down on the judges.
“We don’t have to make any decisions immediately so we’re taking a lot of meetings because you want to get it right,” said ABC’s head of alternative programming, Rob Mills, said in a recent interview with Variety. The network isn’t under pressure just yet because though auditions start next week, the judges’ auditions don’t begin until October »

When your mom is Gwen Stefani, you can expect to have some really magical birthday parties.
The singer and former Voice coach threw her son Zuma an epic Harry Potter-themed celebration in honor of his ninth birthday later this month.
The proud mom shared a number of photos to Snapchat and her Instagram story, showing off the impressive level of detail that went into the special day.
The fantastical festivities included some downright amazing decorations to set the mood, including a beautifully crafted facsimile of the famous Platform 9 3/4 that led into the house, a life-size Harry Potter cardboard cutout and a massive fruit display carved and diced to look like a huge owl!
Among the other decorations were two more life-sized cutouts of Draco Malfoy and Serverous Snape, and a vast assortment of snakes made up to look like magical potions and various »
Jackson -- who was a judge for 12 seasons on Fox's American Idol while Seacrest was hosting -- filled in for Kelly Ripa as co-host of Live With Kelly and Ryan alongside his old friend. Seacrest will soon return as the host of ABC's reboot of Idol, but remembers a great deal about that first day of auditions for the singing competition show in 2002.
"I remember the first day we were all sitting there like, 'Is this really going to work? What is this?'" Jackson recalled.
"I remember walking in and seeing this guy who just finished his cigarette and his pants were high and his shirt had this gap," Seacrest remembered. "I said, 'This guy is on our show?' Turns out »

Fox on Tuesday revealed plans for its first post-“American Idol” singing competition. But the show that defined the network for 15 seasons still looms large.
Asked Tuesday at the Television Critics Association press tour whether Fox, which canceled “Idol” two years ago, or ABC, which is paying a hefty sum to bring the show back, had made a serious mistake, Fox Television Group co-ceo Dana Walden responded, “ABC” — then added, “I’m joking.”
Walden unpacked Fox’s decision-making process around “Idol” — both the decision to let the franchise go, and its bid to land the revival of the show, which ultimately went to ABC.
“‘American Idol’ was an extremely expensive show,” Walden said. When she and co-ceo Gary Newman took over the network in 2015, ratings for the show — which had enjoyed a lengthy run as television’s highest-ratings king — were in a steep decline. “The economics were terrible at that moment. We »

Fox has given a series order to “The Four,” a new singing competition series from ITV Entertainment and Armoza Formats.
The new series is the latest entry in a multi-network rush to launch the next hit singing series — a race that began earlier this year with competition over the rebooted “American Idol.”
“The Four” is a variation on classic shiny-floor singing competitions. In the premiere episode, four finalists are selected. New contestants then challenge the finalists each week to steal one of the four slots. The winner is named in the season finale.
No on-screen talent for the show has yet been announced. “The Four” is produced by ITV Entertainment in association with Armoza Formats. Executive producers are David George, Adam Sher, David Eilenberg, Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh, Simon Thomas, Becca Walker, David Friedman, Avi Armoza, and Nehama Cohen.
As Variety reported exclusively, Fox accelerated development on the series in May, when ABC closed a deal to bring “American Idol »

We never need an excuse to revisit our favorite music videos of the early aughts — who doesn’t want to relive all of Justin Timberlake’s hairstyles or the glory days of frosted eyeshadow and crop tops made out of bandanas? — but thankfully, the universe has given us one: MTV is reviving that beloved after-school staple of our childhood, Trl.
In memory of all of those days spent voting to make sure that the boy band of your choice topped the countdown or that Britney managed to be No. 1 for yet another week in a row, let’s take a »

Laverne Cox gave her Golden Buzzer to an adorable 9-year-old girl who dedicated her performance on Tuesday night’s America’s Got Talent to her baby sister
By her expression, Celine Tam wasn’t expecting to see a flurry of golden confetti sweep around her, but she deserved the honor after she sang an impressive rendition of Michael Bolton’s “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You.”
Celine, named after Céline Dion, dedicated the song to her baby sister, Dion — their parents are huge fans of the Canadian singer. On her first Agt appearance back in June, she sang the classic Dion song, »

If you invite a bunch of comedians on Celebrity Family Feud, you can’t really be surprised when their language isn’t family-friendly. (Cue the Steve Harvey dumbfounded face.)
In the video above, Paul Scheer (The League, Fresh Off the Boat) stops by TVLine’s Comic-Con interview suite to give Michael Ausiello a preview of Sunday’s Feud, which pits Scheer and a team of male comedians against his wife June Diane Raphael (Grace & Frankie) and a team of female comics. And yeah, things get a little racy: Scheer remembers Nicole Byer crudely describing on-air what she looks for in a man… »

Sia nearly went unnoticed while out and about in Los Angeles over the weekend.
Fans are used to seeing the "Chandelier" singer hiding behind large wigs and elaborate costumes while performing, but on Saturday, her face was in plain view when she showed up to meet with Kate Hudson. Sia sported minimal makeup for the visit, and wore an all-black outfit.

The 41-year-old pop star has made it a point not to show her face while onstage, citing that it helps with her stage fright. Last August, Sia's frequent tour mate, Maddie Ziegler, told The Insider that she's often asked what the singer looks like when the wig is off. "A beautiful, loving, caring face," Ziegler described. "People are always like, 'Is she pretty? Is she ugly?' I'm like, 'She's gorgeous and it's not just on the outside, but on the »
When legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace purchased his Mediterranean-style villa, then the Amsterdam Palace apartment building, in Miami Beach in 1992, Ocean Drive was still an odd collection of small hotels, modeling agencies and senior citizens’ homes. By 1997, the year he was gunned down by serial killer Andrew Cunanan on the front steps of the remarkable home he’d spent a reported $33 million restoring, the oceanfront strip was a bonafide celebrity destination.
