Deadpool helmer Tim Miller on creating Thor: The Dark World's prologue

20 November 2013 10:57 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

We already know that Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) wasn't the only director to shoot scenes for Thor: The Dark World, with - Spoiler - Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn filming the mid-credits sequence (much to Taylor's displeasure).

Well, now it's been revealed that Tim Miller (who happens to be attached to Fox's long-gestating Deadpool solo movie) and his Blur Studio VFX house were also responsible for the opening prologue, which sees the Asgardians battling Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), Algrim the Strong (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim 5000 years before the events of the movie. Miller, executive producer Craig Kyle and editor Wyatt Smith oversaw the live-action shoot in London, leading to a final sequence of 75 shots, of which more than a third were entirely CGI courtesy of Blur's VFX supervisor Kevin Margo.

"This project hit on so many sweet spots for Blur, combining live action performance with photo-real CG action, »

Kat Dennings Talks Darcy and Thor: The Dark World, in theaters now

(From contributing writer Bo Bory)

Marvel Studios' eagerly awaited, sci-fi fantasy, extravaganza, Thor: The Dark World, opens early November in theaters all across the country. For fans and critics lucky enough to catch a sneak-preview of the God of Thunder's other-worldly, action-packed sequel...Two things stood out: 1) the special effects are spectacular, and 2) the jokes are...Funny!

Yes...It's not a shock to think that Thor: The Dark World would have amazing special effects... after all, this is a big budgeted, mega action film helmed by HBO's Game of Thrones director, Alan Taylor, so naturally the movie would be chocked full of eye-popping CGI effects, and detailed, larger than life studio sets. But what seemed to take everyone by surprise, myself included, was how well all of those epic battle scenes and loud, theater-rumbling explosions and effects, »

Tom Hiddleston & Chris Hemsworth Discuss the Appeal of the Villain + Ownership of Thor & Loki

30 October 2013 7:17 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Yesterday we published a chat with Marvel boss, Kevin Feige, where he spoke about the opportunities that telling stories as films, network TV shows and cable series offered the company. The same day we spoke to Feige, we also spoke with the film’s stars, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston.

Given that the pair have now played their characters over the course of three movies, one of the first things we wanted to know was just how much ownership do they feel they now have over the characters, and how much influence do they have over their development?

See our Top Ten ideas on where Thor 3 could go here

Chris Hemsworth: Certainly, I felt on this one, a welcoming of our opinions Not to say there wasn’t the first or second times we did it, but we were all searching for it in those films, all of us. »

Thor: The Dark World News Round Up

Tom Hiddleston spoke with Flicks and the City at the Thor: The Dark World premiere. Christopher Yost spoke with Newsarama about how a comic book writer transitioned to working on the script for Thor: The Dark World. "I was working in the Marvel Studios' Writers Program, doing development scripts on the next generation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe while Thor was doing some additional photography. I was asked by Marvel exec Craig Kyle to help out with a few scenes, some random lines here and there. It was great, I got to work with Kenneth Branagh and hang out on set for a couple of weeks… but then in my second year in the program, they began brainstorming on Thor: The Dark World. I was fortunate enough to know and work with Don Payne, who had written on both movies, and from there eventually got a crack at writing a draft of the script. »

Thor Needs Loki’s Help In Thor: The Dark World Clip, Plus New Featurette and Posters

With the November release date of Thor: The Dark World, the second outing for Marvel’s super-powered Norse god, fast approaching, the film studio is noticeably stepping up its marketing campaign. Thor and Loki Work Things Out in First Clip from Thor: The Dark World

Marvel has released the first clip from director Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World.  The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reluctantly teaming up with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to fight off the villainous dark elf Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston).  In this first clip, we see Thor approaching Loki for his help, though things aren’t exactly straightforward given that Loki just tried to blow up Earth and all.  I’m really interested to see how the events of The Avengers are addressed in Thor: The Dark World, since one of the principal characters in the film was the villain in Joss Whedon’s team-up pic.  It feels like a pseudo-sequel of sorts to The Avengers, in which we follow the antagonist’s imprisonment and subsequent shaming amongst his kin.
