Last night’s premiere of AMC’s newest unscripted series Game Of Arms debuted with 1 million viewers and 626,000 adults 18-49 at 10 Pm,  making it AMC’s highest weeknight unscripted series premiere ever. Game Of Arms, from Undertow Films, looks at the highly competitive world of underground arm wrestling. Meanwhile, Bet has ordered a second season of its first original scripted drama series Being Mary Jane, after the finale — two back-to-back hours from 9-11 Pm — averaged 2.6 million viewers in the first hour and 3.2 million in the second. The season finale event became the series’ best performing episode, outperforming its premiere. (In early January, an average of 3.3 million viewers tuned in to check out the unveiling of the Gabrielle Union-starring vehicle, after which an immediate repeat clocked 1.8 million.) During February, the top 5 weeknight cable drama premiere telecasts were dominated by new episodes of the series, and it  finished out its first season as the No. »

Fans of the series should get ready to see more of him as Mary Jane (Gabrielle Union), brings him back into her life so that they can maybe work things out. Second, Tory Kittles has joined the cast of BBC America's Intruders, which follows an ex-cop forced to confront his past when he opens an investigation into the disappearance of his wife. Kittles will play Gary Fischer, described as an attorney friend of the ex-cop, who assists in the investigation. And finally, Tim Meadows has been cast in NBC's comedy pilot, Marry Me, which centers on a young couple who get engaged, and quickly realize being potentially married isn't all that they expected it to be. »

TV Review: Bet’s ‘Being Mary Jane’

5 January 2014 7:30 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Sometimes, casting really is half the battle, and so it is with “Being Mary Jane,” Bet’s first stab at an episodic drama with a principally African-American cast. Gabrielle Union stars as the title character, a TV anchor with a complicated personal life, which includes a pair of romantic entanglements, one of them married. Picking up where a high-rated TV movie left off, it’s hardly ground-breaking material, but Union proves good enough company to pull it off, giving Bet a credible shot at becoming a more significant player in the scripted game.
