New TV Season Breakdown: CBS

18 May 2012 4:51 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.

With CBS leading in viewers by the widest margin of any network in 23 years, the network has little need to refresh its line-up this year - especially with last season's successes like "2 Broke Girls" and "Persons of Interest" adding to a solid run of hits in recent years.

Yet it's not resting on its laurels, ordering six new shows and shifting four existing shows around the schedule to shore up its weak points, in the process teaming its two biggest comedies "Big Bang Theory" and "Two and a Half Men" on the one night.

Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include cop drama "The Widow Detective", various comedies about twenty »

Cassadaga DVD review

2 May 2012 1:38 PM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

The latest in the line of direct-to-dvd horror movies from the After Dark stable is a supernatural/torture porn hybrid called Cassadaga.

Having seen a few of their ‘Originals’ (link to previous reviews, Scream Of The Banshee and The Task, I wasn’t expecting much - however this was a little more coherent and even contained some scares. Whether this is down to the fact that it wasn’t made by a newbie (director Anthony Diblasi previously made the Clive Barker adaptation Dread) I can’t say, but it certainly felt more like a ‘real’ film.

Cassadaga stars Kelen Coleman as Lily, a deaf art teacher who loses her younger sister in a car accident in the early stages of the film. Spurred on by this tragic event Lily decides to enrol in a course at Cassadaga University and finds board at the house of an old lady named Claire »

"Gcb" Episode 109: "I Prefer Wangus"

30 April 2012 12:20 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

The alternate ending of Babe was not well received.

This week's episode of Gcb would've been one of the strongest yet ... if it wasn't for one increasingly frustrating plot point.

We start off with Ripp announcing the "Annual Dallas Interfaith Barbeque Invitational," with teams from each church competing for the best brisket. Hillside Park Church is proud to announce their team, "Braise The Lord," which unfortunately is all-male, which upsets Amanda, who is afraid of the kind of message it sends to someone named Laura, who apparently is her daughter (who knew?).

Ripp and Burl make the fatal mistake of calling all of the women "little ladies" and "girls," which sets Amanda's feminist blood boiling, and soon she's announcing the formation of the first all-female barbeque team. Carlene tries to rally the other Gcb's around the men, but Sharon is too invested in "Losing It With Jesus," and Cricket »

Move to Cassadaga for Ghosts and Good Times: A Movie Review

25 April 2012 4:00 AM, PDT | 28 Days Later Analysis | See recent 28 Days Later Analysis news »

*here be spoilers.

Director: Anthony Diblasi.

Writers: Bruce Wood and Scott Poiley.

Cast: Kelen Coleman, Kevin Alejandro and Louise Fletcher.

Cassadaga is a great film! This review had to start with this phrase. As background, Cassadaga is a film from the producer of the Midnight Meat Train, Anthony Diblasi. Diblasi also worked on After Dark Horror's Dread from 2009. So, there is a horror pedigree here. Writers Bruce Wood and Scott Poiley are relatively new to the genre; however, they have penned a great entry in horror.

Cassadaga stands out for introducing so many genres. There are elements of the supernatural here, with a ghost motivating events. There are also elements of the horror genre as a serial killer roams the hiking trails of Cassadaga, Florida. A love story develops and drama is central to the story. It is arguable to say that drama is the film's anchor. After all, this »

You may have noticed that Gcb was pre-empted this week to give Cuba Gooding Jr. a chance to bring his iconic Razzie presence to primetime, but we know you need your Gcb fix, so we're giving you a preview of next Sunday's episode, "Adam & Eve's Rib." Here's the synopsis:

"When Amanda tries to put together an all female barbeque team to prove a point to her daughter, she recruits the helps of the GCBs for the cook-off of the year. Meanwhile Heather meets an attractive butcher (Kevin Alejandro), Cricket purchases stud services from businessman Mason Massey (Grant Bowler), Carlene becomes frustrated with Ripp, and Sharon tries to help Zack with his dealership problems.

We all loved gazing at Grant Bowler's Cooter on True Blood, and we appreciated his stint on Ugly Betty, in which we first came to appreciate the girth of his talent.
