A couple months ago, it seemed like NBC was having its doubts about one of its midseason series, Day One. At the Television Critics Association press tour, NBC's president of prime time entertainment, Angela Bromstad, said, "We've always looked at Day One as a big event for us and not necessarily a show that would be an ongoing, returning show for a second season." That statement didn't exactly seem like a vote of confidence. Now, the network seems to have scaled back their expectations once again.
Day One deals with the aftermath of a mysterious global disaster and its effects on the residents of a Los Angeles apartment building. It stars Julie Gonzalo, Derek Mio, Addison Timlin, Adam Campbell, Catherine Dent, David Lyons, Carly Pope, Thekla Reuten, and Xander Berkeley.

It seems a lot of major decisions have been made in regards to two highly anticipated sci-fi shows. Variety reports that NBC has decided to air Jesse Alexander’s Day One as a 4-hour mini-series event instead of a full-blown 13-episode season, as originally planned. Something similar is happening with the new V TV show on ABC. So what’s the big idea? Apparently this is a cost-cutting measure by NBC, which is really taking a pounding with a lot of its expensive original scripted shows, including the poorly performing Heroes, which continues to dip in the ratings. As a result, instead of a 13-episode first season, Alexander’s Day One will instead premiere as a 4-hour mini-series event after the Winter Olympics (sometime around March 1, 2010), but the show will have to prove to NBC that it deserves a series (i.e. high ratings) for the network to commit. Day One stars Adam Campbell, »

In this article, I’m chatting a bit about advertisers cutting costs and how this might be relating to shows like Heroes and Day One. That, and I’ve got an off-subject bonus paragraph that just might make your jaw drop!
Advertiser Revenue Down
This year, my sympathies go out to the networks struggling to survive in this economy. The economy has caused purse strings to be tightened and advertisers to be more frugal.
The reason networks have fewer dollars to spend is because ad revenue for the upcoming season of television has declined by 22% from the year before.
If I lost 22% of my income, I’d be pretty distressed, but what a 22% decline means here is that the networks only brought in a mere $7.2 billion (that’s with a “B”) in primetime ad sales.
My heart really pours forth.

When network executives have a new show to promote, they typically tout the program as the greatest show to hit the airwaves since I Love Lucy or The Sopranos. NBC's president of prime time entertainment, Angela Bromstad, is taking a different approach.
Day One revolves around the residents of a Southern California apartment complex following a mysterious catastrophe. The global event breaks down all forms of communication and leaves the survivors searching to both find a way to survive in their new environment and to save the world from an otherworld menace.
The cast includes Julie Gonzalo, Derek Mio, Addison Timlin, Adam Campbell, Catherine Dent, David Lyons, Carly Pope, Thekla Reuten, and Xander Berkeley.
Day One was included with the rest of NBC's new series when they were announced in the Spring. The show isn't expected to debut until midseason 2010 -- after the winter Olympics and filling Heroes' Monday timeslot. »

On Monday, May 5th 2009, The Jay Leno network NBC announced a slate of new shows at their In-Fronts for the 2009 / 2010 television season. No the above screen shot is not from their in-fronts. It’s a behind the scenes shot from NBC’s new show, Day One.
Keeping in mind that we here at Screen Rant are all about action / adventure and sci-fi / fantasy (with a dribble of comedy). I’ve left out some details on the new NBC comedy shows but only because we do like our action-adventure shows. Rather than babble about what I am going to say, I might as well get right to it:
Day One is a new futuristic drama that will premiere out of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and the premise sounds awful familiar.

Chicago – NBC held a special “in-front” announcement yesterday, two weeks in front of the standard upfront presentations and revealed six news series for the fall while leaving some beloved programs up in the air. On the bubble shows “Southland” and “Heroes” were renewed, but the jury is still out on “Chuck,” “Medium,” “Law & Order,” and “My Name is Earl”.
Of course, the focus of the peacock network in yesterday’s presentation was on “The Jay Leno Show,” which will air five nights a week in primetime, reducing time slots for new and returning programming. Consequently, if your favorite show doesn’t make it to the fall, blame Jay.
The NBC event did not unveil the actual complete schedule, just making a few announcements about new programming, so there are still a few question marks about some of its bubble shows but struggling “Southland,” “Heroes,” and “Parks and Recreation” did get the reprieve for the fall. »

In addition to cancelling Life earlier today (not that I'm bitter), NBC revealed the six new series it has picked up for the 2009-2010 season.
First, the bad news: I've read through the descriptions and casting sides for all of the shows except Trauma, and despite the fact that they are all ensembles with more characters than you can keep track of, all the leads are straight, as far as I can tell (with the possibility that Guillermo Diaz's character on Mercy). If anyone in the industry knows otherwise, please send me a tip!
The only one of the series created by a woman is Mercy (the one about female nurses, naturally).
So basically, it's business as usual on primetime broadcast TV.
The good news? We'll be getting Maura Tierney (Parenthood), Carly Pope (Day One), and Michelle Trachtenberg (Mercy) on the regular, and some racial diversity among the casts (not a lot, »

NBC has been struggling of late to find its identity as an entertainment programming network. With so many of television's best shows now appearing on cable channels (some of which are admittedly owned by parent NBC/Universal), the major networks have faced an increasing challenge to develop intriguing dramatic television, also facing as they do increased competition from video games, Internet downloads and other forms of entertainment.
But it's been hardest on NBC, which went through a serious staffing shakeup last December, searching for new blood and fresh ideas.
Has it worked? It's still too early to tell. Perhaps the most intriguing new offering from NBC is Day One, a futuristic drama from Heroes writer-producer Jesse Alexander. The story chronicles the aftermath of a global event that devastates the world's infrastructures when a small band of survivors strive to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took »

Not unlike the puzzles that a certain teen detective has solved, the possibility of a Veronica Mars movie is somewhat of a mystery. Will it ever be written? Even more importantly, will a studio actually back a film based on a little-watched TV show? It won't take a "Nancy Drew" to solve this one, just a writer that can't seem to get this character out of his head.
Veronica Mars is the longtime pet project of series creator Rob Thomas. It began as a young adult novel, with a male teen detective as the main character. After writing other projects for television (Dawson's Creek, Cupid), Thomas developed it as a series with a female protagonist and Kristen Bell in the starring role. Other series performers include Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Teddy Dunn, Michael Muhney, Tina Majorino, Brandon Hillock, Kyle Gallner, Tessa Thompson, Julie Gonzalo, »
