- Multiple Olympic gold medal winner in Alpine Skiing. In the 1994 Olympics, she was recovering from two knee injuries, but won the gold by 1.22 seconds.
- Since 1997 her longtime companion has been Alessandro Benetton; they married in 2008. They have three children: daughter Agnese, son Tobias and daughter Luce.
- At 36 she gave birth to her third child with Alessandro Benetton, a daughter, Luce on December 16th, 2006.
- At 30 she gave birth to her first child with Alessandro Benetton, a daughter, Agnese on August 17th, 2000. She was born in Samedan (Switzerland) and weighed 3.5 Kg. She'll take both of her parents' surnames.

- On February 10, 2006 she took part in the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. She passed the Olympic Torch to another Italian skier, the 10-time Olympic medalist Stefania Belmondo who then lit the Olympic Flame.
- In the Winter Olympic Games she won 3 gold medals: 1 in the Super-G (Albertville 1992) and 2 in the Giant Slalom (Lillehammer 1994 and Nagano 1998). She also won a silver medal in the Slalom (Nagano 1998).
- She won 3 gold medals in Alpine World Ski Championships: 2 in the Giant Slalom (1996 and 1997) and 1 in the Slalom (1997).
- The World Cup skiing track in her native Santa Caterina di Valfurva has been named after her. In fact this track hosted some of the events of the 2005 Alpine World Ski Championships which took place in Bormio, Italy.
- Her career as a professional skier was seriously hindered by her frequent and severe knee injuries sustained in competitions. An accident in 1988 put not only her career, but even her life at risk. In 1992, just one day after winning her gold medal in the Super-G at the Winter Olympics in Albertville, she sustained a severe and painful injury to her left knee.
- Till 1999, when she retired from competitions, she was a member of the Gruppo Sportivo Forestale, the sport section of the Corpo Forestale dello Stato ("State Forestry Corps") a national police agency in Italy.
- The CONI (The Italian National Olympic Committee) awarded her the Medaglia d'Oro al Valore Atletico ("Gold Medal to Athletic Value").
- In 2003, in her hometown of Santa Caterina di Valfurva she co-founded the non-profit organization "Sciare per la Vita". This organization is in memory of her cousin Barbara who died at 21 of leukemia.
- She was the Flag Bearer for Italy at the 1994 Winter Olympics held in Lillehammer, Norway.
- She is considered the best female skier ever of Italy, equal to famous male winners like Gustav Thöni and Alberto Tomba.
- Her husband, Alessandro Benetton, was born on March 2nd, 1964 from Luciano Benetton who founded the Benetton Group S.p.A. fashion company in 1965. [As of 2013] Alessandro is Chairman of Benetton Group.
- She married her longtime companion Alessandro Benetton in a private ceremony in Tuxedo, New York in 2008.
