In 1940, after graduating from the Yaroslavl Pedagogical Institute, he volunteered for the border troops. He served in the Far East, in Transcarpathia, in Kazakhstan. It was here, on the border, that his writing career began. He writes essays and stories and publishes them in the almanac "Soviet Transcarpathia", in the magazines "Rabotnitsa", "Soviet Ukraine", "Pogranichnik". - In 1949, the first book of stories by the writer "Sisters", dedicated to the people of Transcarpathia, was published in Uzhgorod, and in 1953 - an adventure story about border guards "Once on the border". In subsequent years, Sergei Martyanov wrote two scenarios about the heroes of the virgin lands of Kazakhstan: "Maksimovna", which was used to shoot a short feature film, "Friends-fellow soldiers", published in the magazine "Prostor". In 1958, a book of stories by the writer "The Fiftieth Parallel" was published.
