Dr. Oz has helped save a life today. A tourist reportedly lost a leg when a NYC cab jumped a curb and hit her at Rockefeller Center on Tuesday morning. It happened at 49th and 6th Avenues at about 11:10 a.m. according to MyFoxNY.com The news outlet speculates that it was a road rage argument with this cabbie, described as "unauthorized", who lost control and jumped the curb, hitting the 23 year old woman who had been sitting on the fountain ledge with a friend. Lucky for her that television star Dr. Mehmet Oz, saw the scene from an office window and raced to help the seriously injured England tourist. Fox reports that a hot dog vendor reportedly »

Behold the heroic instincts of Oz. Ready to lend a hand, Dr. Mehmet Oz rushed to the scene of a grisly car accident earlier today in Manhattan in which a woman's foot was severed when a cab jumped a curb and ran into her. Oz, who doles out his medical expertise on a daily basis on his hit syndicated talk show, later described what went down and was quick to give a shout-out to a fellow civilian who helped save the day while they waited for paramedics to arrive. "While in a meeting in our offices near Rockefeller Center, I heard an accident occur on the street below," the former Oprah Winfrey Show contributor wrote on Facebook. "A taxi driver lost control of his cab and »

A cab had to swerve in order to avoid hitting a bicyclist, causing the driver to lose control. He swerved and struck the 23-year-old tourist as she crossed the street. In addition to the severed leg, the tourist suffered injuries to her other leg and remains in critical condition at a NYC hospital.
Several witnesses on the scene were essential in saving the woman's life. One, a plumber named David Justino, applied a makeshift tourniquet to the victim's leg. "He hit the girl, she flew up in the air, »

It’s no more Mr. Nice Guy for the founder of hedge fund Third Point, a major investor in Sony. In a letter to his investors today, Daniel Loeb says he’s fed up with the performance of the electronic giant’s movie, TV, and music businesses — which he wants Sony to package in a separate stock, with a minority stake sold to the public. “We were surprised that after Entertainment’s highly touted big budget summer releases — After Earth and White House Down — bombed spectacularly at the box office, CEO [Kazuo] Hirai, speaking at the Allen & Co. Sun Valley conferences a few weeks ago, brushed off these failures saying: ‘I don’t worry about the Entertainment business, it’s doing just fine’,” Loeb says. Calling the films “2013′s versions of Waterworld and Ishtar,” Loeb says it’s “perplexing” that Hirai gave “free passes” to Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-CEOs Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal, »

After losing out on the No. 1 spot in 2012, Oprah is once again sitting on top of the Celebrity 100 throne. In my dreams, Oprah is currently lip-synching and dancing along to Yeezy’s “I Am a God” in one of her massive mansions.
This particular list doesn’t only count one’s annual salary – in that case, author James Patteron (No. 44 with $91 million) and ubiquitous reality competition creator Simon Cowell (No. 17 with $95 million »

New York (AP) — Dr. Mehmet Oz is trying something new: his own lifestyle magazine.
Hearst Magazines said Monday a pilot issue will be published early next year, followed by a second issue, "which could lead to a regular frequency in the second half of 2014."
In a statement, Oz said the magazine "will provide women with everything they need to feel inspired and live a long, healthy, joyful life."
Earlier this month, "The Dr. Oz Show" won its third Daytime Emmy Award for best informative talk show.
Dr. Mehmet Oz is heading to a newsstand near you, thanks to a partnership with Hearst Magazines.
The media company and daytime talk doc today announced their plans to pilot a lifestyle magazine billed as having an “upbeat, optimistic attitude” that will cover physical and emotional well-being, food, beauty, real-women’s stories, news, travel and finances.
Announcement arrives as Dr. Oz’s yakker, “The Dr. Oz Show,” continues to draw strong ratings in the daytime space. Hearst Magazines has already banked on daytime talent as it launched Oprah’s mag in 2000, and the company draws parallels to Dr. Oz’s project and the past launches of Food Network Magazine and Hgtv Magazine in the lifestyle space.
First issue will launch in first quarter of 2014 with 350,000 issues distributed at newsstands, and another 450,000 sent to targeted Hearst subscribers. Regular publication of the Dr. Oz mag could occur in the second half of next year. »

The best award shows have their dubious moments, and the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards — which Snicks lovingly liveblogged last night– simply teemed with unexpected and bizarre moments that brought the best (and weirdest) out of many presenters. I also enjoyed planned hilarity like Kathy Griffin‘s presenter speech, in which she quoted four lines of nutty dialogue from nominated soap operas and Betty White‘s tribute to the late game show producer Bob Stewart. But here are five wacky moments I’m still thinking about.
1. Carrie Fisher’s wild introduction to the Best Animated Show category is inspiring, drug-fueled, and maybe poetic.
Carrie Fisher, the goddess who once composed my favorite tweet of all time (and I quote: “Oh BiPolar the way I’m on Letterman tonight w/ my peers Rihanna & Zac Efron pray 4 me”), introduced the Best Animated Show category. Struck me as apparent that she was »

Dr. Mehmet Oz has some cautionary words for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: He knows first-hand what it's like to have a five-weeks-premature baby -- and it's not easy. Far from it, in fact. The host of The Dr. Oz Show spoke to Us Weekly at the Daytime Emmy Awards on June 16 in Beverly Hills about his thoughts on the new parents' pre-term baby girl. (A newborn is considered premature if born before 37 weeks of pregnancy; Kardashian and West's daughter was born June 15, after [...] »
Beverly Hills, Calif. — "Days of Our Lives" won drama series honors for just the second time in 40 years at the Daytime Emmys in a rough-hewn ceremony that included more upsets and an envelope mix-up on Sunday night.
The category included the only four remaining soaps still airing on the broadcast networks in addition to "One Life to Live," which has found new life on the Internet after being canceled.
"Days" only other drama series win was in 1978.
The show claimed one other trophy: Chandler Massey as outstanding younger actor.
Davidson earned his first career trophy for a role he's played since 1978. Tom, who previously was on "Y&R, »
The Daytime Emmys recognize network and syndicated programming. Game show icons Monty Hall and producer Bob Stewart were also given Lifetime Achievement Awards during the telecast that included a few surprises (Days won the top prize for the first time since 1975, Ricki Lake won for her canceled talker) and some embarrassing flubs (the ladies of The Talk were given the wrong envelope). But presenter Carrie Fisher did talk about dropping acid »

NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” took the gold for drama series at the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Sunday.
The win marked the first time since 1975 that the sudser has won the top prize at the Daytime Emmy fete — and only its second drama series nod in its nearly 50-year run on NBC. And to make it that much sweeter, the victory coincided with the birthday of “Days” exec producer Ken Corday (pictured above).
“Pinch me,” he said. “Today is a great day to celebrate.”

The show, now titled “Live With Kelly and Michael,” averaged 3.243 million viewers in the April 25-May 22 sweep period — up 8% from last year when it was a solo Kelly Ripa fronting “Live With Kelly.” It also drew a larger audience than the final two May sweeps of “Live!” hosted by Regis Philbin and Ripa, according to Nielsen.
The strong perf in its first year after Strahan become the permanent successor to Regis Philbin marks a big win for Disney’s syndie arm in successfully reinventing, for the second time, its lucrative daytime franchise. “Live” went into national syndication in 1989 with Philbin and Kathie Lee Gifford as hosts; Ripa replaced Gifford in 2001.
In households, the first May sweep for “Live with Kelly and Michael »
