A&E will introduce viewers to “The Devil You Know” in tonight’s episode of Damien, and new photos tease the showdown between Sister Greta Fraueva and the Antichrist.

‘The Omen’ Prequel Movie in the Works at Fox

28 April 2016 3:48 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Fox is developing “The First Omen,” a prequel to 1976’s horror-thriller “The Omen,” with Antonio Campos in talks to direct and David S. Goyer on board to produce.

Ben Jacoby has written the script for the prequel. Campos directed “Christine,” which premiered at Sundance and starred Rebecca Hall as Christine Chubbuck, the 29-year-old news reporter who committed suicide on live television in 1974.

Goyer, best known for his work on “The Dark Knight” trilogy, is producing with Kevin Turen through their Phantom Four banner.

The Omen” was directed by Richard Donner from a David Seltzer script. The film, starring Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and David Warner, revolved around a young child adopted at birth by an American Ambassador and his wife who are unaware that the child is the Antichrist.

The Omen” was a strong box office performer with over $60 million and won an Academy Award for best original score for Jerry Goldsmith. »

'The Omen' has suddenly become the hottest property in horror

28 April 2016 12:47 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The Omen may be 40 years old this year, but it's somehow become the hottest property in horror in 2016. In addition to A&E's sequel series Damien (which, truth be told, isn't garnering the kind of ratings the network probably hoped for), an Omen prequel movie is now in the works with indie darling Antonio Campos -- whose 2016 biopic Christine, about tragic Florida TV reporter Christine Chubbuck, was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival -- attached to direct.  Fittingly titled The First Omen, the film is being produced by David Goyer for 20th Century Fox, the studio behind both the original film and its three less-successful sequels, including the made-for-tv stinker Omen IV: The Awakening. I actually rewatched The Omen fairly recently, and truth be told, I'd forgotten how hokey the thing is. The fact that it grossed boatloads of money in 1976 makes sense: it's broadly entertaining, »

The Omen Prequel Is Happening at 20th Century Fox

28 April 2016 12:20 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The problem with most prequels is that the original never intended to show you what happened before the events deemed worthy enough to depict in a movie. But that isn't stopping the brain trust at 20th Century Fox from moving forward on The First Omen, a precursor to the 1976 classic that introduced Damien to the world. Antonio Campos, who made waves with his Sundance hit Christine (not a Stephen King remake) is in talks to direct.

A grown-up Damien is at the center of a new A&E horror series that debuted earlier this year, and 20th Century Fox already blew it with their critically panned remake of The Omen in 2006. So they're taking this long-standing horror franchise in a totally new direction. This next movie is produced by David Goyer and Kevin Turen under their Phantom Four banner. There are no story details. The movie will tell what happened »

Women, Minority Writers See Little Progress or ‘Actual Reversals of Fortune,’ WGA Report Says

24 March 2016 12:21 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The Writers Guild of America West has found a mixture of slow, forward progress, stalls and reversals in its 2016 Hollywood Writers Report.

“Progress has been slow at best for women and minority writers in an era of television renaissance, while film sector stagnation has witnessed either anemic advances or actual reversals of fortune for groups of writers that remain woefully underrepresented in both sectors,” said Darnell Hunt, the report’s author and director of the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA.

The new report, which looks at data through 2014, notes that while women TV writers have made minor advances in terms of employment and earnings, women screenwriters lost ground in film sector earnings.

For minority TV writers, advancements in employment share and relative earnings have stalled. In the film sector, minority writers have experienced only slight gains in their share of employment and a small closing of the earnings gap. »

'Nashville' is about to do something Very strange behind the scenes

24 March 2016 8:10 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Last night, an odd bit of TV news popped up: according to TVLine, thirtysomething creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick have been hired to run the fifth season of Nashville. Now, first Nashville has to be officially renewed for a fifth season, which may be harder than it seems now that the show's biggest fan, Paul Lee, is no longer running ABC. But assuming it comes back with HerskoZwick at the helm, it'd be among the weirder showrunner transitions in TV history. Now, series change showrunners all the time. Dee Johnson, whom the thirtysomething guys would be succeeding, was already a replacement for Jim Parriott, who was himself brought in because Nashville creator Callie Khouri hadn't run her own show before. Sometimes, new showrunners come from within, like The Walking Dead's transition from Frank Darabont to Glen Mazzara to Scott Gimple, or L.A. Law staff writer David E. Kelley »

Bradley James On Playing The Antichrist In Damien

In the show - which has been developed by The Walking Dead's Glen Mazzara -  it's 25 years after the events of that film, and Damien, now turning 30, is forced to come to grips with the fact that he has a much greater destiny than he ever suspected: leading the world towards Armageddon as the Antichrist. Empire Magazine's site has spoken to James about his portrayal of Damien, and what follows is an excerpt from that interview. Question: What made you feel that Damien was a project you wanted to do? Bradley James: You pretty much hit the nail on the head straight away, in the sense that it was the script, which sort of got nudged in my direction. I was up in Vancouver working on another project, and I was somewhat ending with that. All these scripts came through at once and I didn't have time to put much focus on them. »

Damien episode 1 review: The Beast Rises

The Omen TV sequel series feat. Merlin's Bradley James gets off to a terrible start. That doesn't mean Omen fans won't love it regardless...

This review contains spoilers.

1.1 The Beast Rises

Damien’s pilot episode is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to review. Usually an opinion should be clear by the end of an episode, aided by hurriedly scrawled notes taken during the viewing. And if I was going to base my review on those notes alone, then I would say that Damien is an awful television show. Objectively, that is the case. The dialogue is clunky and cliched, the characters are either bland or inconsistent and it’s shot in an alternately murky/shaky way that makes it a little unpleasant to watch. The actors do their best with weak material that gives no indication as to how this series will work going »

Damien Thorn is back, and he’s actually pretty hot (thank you Bradley James)

Damien Thorn was a bad, bad little boy. There was nothing pretty about that kid, well, until he grew up. The series picks up 25 years later following a handsome Damien — courtesy of sexy Brit Bradley James — who is now a war photojournalist on assignment in a hot zone in the Middle East. Impressions: A&E’s Damien is Deviously Addicting

7 March 2016 9:27 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Life hasn’t gotten easier for Damien Thorn since his nanny jumped off the building ledge in The Omen. A&E’s new sequel series to Richard Donner’s film shows that being the Antichrist isn’t one big devilish party, but rather a hellish struggle for your very soul. Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to watch the first five episodes of the series, and it was a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

The series picks up with Damien Thorn (Bradley James) at the ripe age of 30. Years after his father’s attempt to kill him with the Megiddo daggers, Damien still hasn’t sprouted horns and doesn’t sit on a throne of fire while the world bows at his hooved feet. Instead, Damien is quite human and has an occupation you might not expect: war photographer.

Along with his friends Amani (Omid Abtahi) and »
