Keanu Classic: Point Break

20 March 2015 5:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

We at Thn collectively love Keanu Reeves and have been immensely excited about his return this year in John Wick. Although not released in UK cinemas until April, Thn have been lucky enough to have already seen it and we can tell you that it is all kinds of awesome.

John Wick was so brilliant that it has awoken my long-forgotten admiration for Mr Reeves and compelled me to revisit his extensive back catalogue immediately. He might not be known as being the most heavyweight of actors but you have to admit the man knows how to make an entertaining movie, and he’s not bad to look at. Even if everything else about the film is terrible or ridiculously over the top, Keanu is always awesome – Jonnhy Mnemonic and Chain Reaction would be nothing without him.

Edgar Ramirez Finds Gold

18 March 2015 12:49 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Mining scandal project Gold has bounced from Michael Mann’s hands, through Spike Lee’s and ended up in Stephen Gaghan’s lap earlier this year. With Matthew McConaughey aboard to star, Gaghan is lining up the rest of the cast, which will now include Edgar Ramirez. The film, which has a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman, tells the story of the 1993 Bre-x Corporation mining scandal. The plot follows a rough-around-the-edges prospector Walsh (McConaughey) who stumbles upon one of the largest gold mines in the world in the Indonesian jungle. Which, you may not be surprised to learn given the word “scandal” before, turned out to be bogus. Ramirez is set as geologist Michael Acosta in the true-life tale. Despite the troubled development on this one, Gaghan appears to be finally getting it off the ground and will start shooting in June in Thailand, New York and New Mexico. »

The Liberator | Blu-ray Review

10 March 2015 9:00 AM, PDT | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

Selected as the Venezuelan submission for Best Foreign Language Film for the 2014 Academy Awards, Alberto Arvelo’s The Liberator, a biopic on Simon Bolivar, actually made the shortlist of the final nine films. The positive attention it received from Academy members did little for its box office potential, grossing only $113,000 in the Us. While many seemed to agree on the film’s faults, it wasn’t without its champions, particularly concerning Edgar Ramirez’s noble performance as Bolivar.

Arriving with all the earmarks of a truncated and incredibly abridged version of history in order to cram into the corset of a two hour cinematic straightjacket, this unwisely attempts to chart nearly the entire life of Simon Bolivar in one dense chunk. The result is a jack hammered miasma of assorted clichés, conflating events into a romanticized exaggeration of generalization, which collapses, as these types often do, into a hellishly dull »

Blade Runner Sequel Director Announced, Harrison Ford’s Return Confirmed

26 February 2015 7:08 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

After all these years, the story of Rick Deckard will continue. A Blade Runner sequel started to pick up steam back in 2011 when it was announced that Ridley Scott would return to direct. While Scott is still creatively involved, it has been revealed that he'll be passing the torch to another director. What is still a big surprise, even after his involvement in the latest Star Wars film, is that Harrison Ford is set to reprise his role as Deckard:

Blade Runner Sequel Confirmed, Harrison Ford To Return

26 February 2015 6:36 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Deadline is reporting that at long last, the Blade Runner sequel has been confirmed, with Harrison Ford set to reprise his role as Rick Deckard. Unfortunately, Ridley Scott will not return as director, but in his place will be Prisoners helmer Denis Villeneuve.

The plan is for production to get underway in summer 2016 with Hampton Fancher (who co-wrote the original) and Michael Green penning the script. Plot details are, of course, scarce, but from what we understand the sequel will take place several decades after the events of the original (which makes sense given Ford’s age).

“We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on Prisoners,” Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said. “Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most »

Rocky Spinoff Creed Set For Thanksgiving As Point Break Remake Shifts To Christmas

4 February 2015 8:21 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Because Hollywood never met a dead franchise it couldn’t resuscitate, this year will see the arrival of a new Rocky spinoff, titled Creed. Warner Bros. just announced that it has set the pic for the already-crowded Thanksgiving weekend, where it will duke it out with Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, Ridley Scott’s sci-fi The Martian, Mud director Jeff Nichols’ sci-fi Midnight Special, and an untitled Christmas comedy from 50/50 collaborators Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Michael B. Jordan (The Fantastic Four) stars as the grandson of Apollo Creed, that fearsome fighter with whom Sylvester Stallone’s beloved Rocky did battle in the original series. Stallone will co-star alongside Dear White People breakout Tessa Thompson, but the most exciting aspect of this otherwise dubious proposition is that it will reteam Jordan with his Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler (pictured above). The Force Is Strong With Felicity Jones For ‘Star Wars’

3 February 2015 11:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Gareth Edwards’ standalone Star Wars movie is starting to take shape – all that was known until recently was the project would focus on a classic franchise character, possibly Boba Fett. Then news emerged that Chris Weitz was on board as writer, replacing Gary Whitta. Now the first big casting decision appears to have been made as Felicity Jones has reportedly entered talks to take the female lead.

Jones’ career currently has the momentum of an Ewok strapped to the Millennium Falcon’s undercarriage, with all eyes on her Oscar nomination for The Theory Of Everything. Getting into the Star Wars universe would consolidate her rise to the top and put her in the same bracket as other respected young actresses joining the new order, such as Lupita Nyong’o.

She’s beaten other candidates like Rooney Mara to secure Disney and Lucasfilm’s interest. Whether she’ll be at the »

The 2016 standalone Star Wars movie is set to star Felicity Jones. Plus, more casting rumours for Gareth Edwards' film...

The casting process continues for the next Star Wars movie following Jj Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We're talking about the standalone 2016 adventure, that Godzilla's Gareth Edwards is helming, and is said to be set before Star Wars: A New Hope. Plans for the Death Star are believed to be involved.

We've already had a few casting rumours for what we're currently referring to as Star Wars 2016 (bet you a quid the name doesn't stick), but it seems as though the field is narrowing.

Felicity Jones, recently Oscar-nominated for her excellent work in The Theory Of Everything, is reported to have landed one of the lead roles in the new movie. She had been linked with it, along with Rooney Mara and Tatiana Maslany, just the other week. »
