First 'Central Intelligence' Trailer with Dwayne Johnson & Kevin Hart

A little Hart and a big Johnson. What a tagline that is! Warner Bros has debuted the first trailer and poster for next summer's comedy Central Intelligence, starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson. The story is about a CIA agent who brings in his old high school friend to help on a mission, but obviously he doesn't fit in. Central Intelligence also stars Oscar nominee Amy Ryan, plus Aaron Paul, Brett Azar, Megan Park and Danielle Nicolet. There's nothing much to say before other than maybe a few people will laugh, maybe they won't. Though I think we can all agree that shot at the end pretty much ruins everything, no? Here's the first trailer for Rawson Marshall Thurber's Central Intelligence, direct from WB's YouTube: The story follows a one-time bullied geek who grew up to be a lethal CIA agent (Johnson), coming home for his high school reunion.

DVD Review – Demonic (2015)

Demonic, 2015.

Directed by Will Canon.

Starring Maria Bello, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Megan Park, Aaron Yoo and Alex Goode.

Synopsis:

A police officer and a psychologist investigate the mysterious deaths of a group of people performing a séance in an abandoned house.

When a horror movie comes with the tag of ‘[insert well-respected director’s name] Presents…’ you can pretty much be assured that the film will be nothing special, as we saw with Guillermo Del Toro and the very dull Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark or the bland Mama, Sam Raimi with the awful The Possession and even the late, great Wes Craven with the abomination that is Carnival of Souls. In this case it is James Wan (Saw/The Conjuring) whose name is attached as a producer and, quite typically, Demonic is a supernatural tale featuring a haunted house and found footage. Typically, because Demonic brings nothing new to

10 best films of Film4 FrightFest 2015

Luke Owen looks at this year’s FrightFest…

What a year this was. Every time FrightFest rolls around, the four madmen behind the festival promise the ‘best line-up ever’, and this year was no different. Each screen was packed out, there was plenty of surprises on offer and some great interviews with the likes of Barbara Crampton, Neil Marshall and Iain Softley.

As for the movies themselves, we had a great variety. From the terrifying (Demonic) to the utterly bizarre (Ahhhhh!) to the downright brilliant (Turbo Kid), there was something for everyone. There were arty films (Sun Choke), heart-breaking films (These Final Hours) and a movie where Santa Claus fights off zombie eleves (A Christmas Horror Story). What more could you ask for?

Well, here’s the 10 best films of the festival (in no order), according to Flickering Myth:

These Final Hours

Written and directed by Zak Hilditch

Starring Nathan Phillips,

Film4 FrightFest 2015 Review – Demonic (2015)

Demonic, 2015

Written and directed by Will Cannon

Starring Maria Bello, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Megan Park, Scott Mechlowicz, Aaron Yoo, Alex Goode

Synopsis:

A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts.

Just as with The Diabolical, Demonic from producer James Wan and director Will Cannon is a movie that attempts to move the ghost story genre into a new direction. And Cannon does this in the most perfect of ways – he makes three movies that intertwine with one and other to create one of the best narratives to come from the subgenre in some time.

The first of these movies is your typical ‘five kids go to a haunted house tale’ which plays out better than you’d think. It’s helped by the fact Demonic has a wonderful cast of likeable characters – even if none

Stars: Maria Bello, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Megan Park, Scott Mechlowicz, Aaron Yoo, Alex Goode, Ashton Leigh, Terence Rosemore, Griff Furst, Jesse Steccato, Meyer DeLeeuw | Written by Max La Bella | Directed by Will Canon

James Wan, the man behind Saw, Dead Silence (a personal favourite), Insidious and The Conjuring, dons producer cap once more – following the success of Annabelle – for Demonic, the second feature from director Will Canon (Brotherhood); and a movie that seems to share more in common with the work of its producer that just having his name on the film…

Demonic follows Detective Mark Lewis and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein as they question the lone survivor of a ghost-hunting excursion turned horrific massacre – where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home. The amateur paranormal activists were simply seeking proof of poltergeist phenomenon at the supposed haunted house. But what started out as

What If DVD Review

Director: Michael Dowse

Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Megan Park and Adam Driver

Certificate: 15

What If is another telling of the subject of “Can men and women be truly friends without sleeping together?” Yes, this is possible but films don’t seem to agree on this matter. According to la-la land Aka Hollywood, men and women are pretty much doomed to courtship as soon as they even glance at each other, like a pair of nightmarish ducklings imprinting. At least it’s not as bad as Jacob from Twilight creepily imprinting on a child at least, right?

The main problem with the film can be summed up with one word; predictable. From the beginning of the film where Wallace is messing around with the magnets on the fridge and spells out “Love is stupid”, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking this could be a fun an unexpected ride. Sadly it isn’t.

Demonic Trailer Howls In

Demonic Trailer Howls In
Welcome, one and all to yet another abject lesson in what should be called Cinematic Séances Are A Bad Idea For Everyone Involved. As if we didn’t already have last year’s Ouija to point this out, along comes the first trailer for horror thriller Demonic to remind the world that nothing good happens when stupid people decide to try to dabble in dark forces. This time around, those trying to figure out what happened when one of these ill-judged ceremonies turns deadly include a psychologist (Maria Bello) and a detective (Frank Grillo). Naturally, they start to dig into the case and the foreboding old house that it all went down in, trying to piece together what really happened. Was this an incursion from the Great Beyond? Or are the participants just run-of-the-mill killers trying to cover their tracks? The trailer leaves little room for doubt on that front.
