Creative team for Kurt Sutter’s “nuns with guns” revenge series Sisters of Sorrow revealed

4 May 2017 6:10 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Back in November it was announced that Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter has teamed with Boom! Studios for the new comic book series Sisters of Sorrow, and now the publisher has announced that Bram Stoker Award-nominated novelist Courtney Alameda (Shutter) and artist Hyeonjin Kim will be serving as the creative team on the “nuns with guns” revenge tale.

“I really love to fuck with genre,” said Sutter. “With Sisters of Sorrow we’ve created what presumably just looks like high camp and kickass action, but right below the surface, we reveal three-dimensional women, struggling with real-life abuse and the scars of deep emotional pain. At its core, weaved in and out of the action-packed narrative and amazing artwork, Sos is about abused women empowering themselves. We actually get to tell stories that matter. Like with Soa, it might be the flash of guns and leather that entice you to show up, »

FX’s Ensemble Cast For Mayans Mc Expands With Carla Baratta And Maurice Compte

27 April 2017 7:35 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

FX’s post-Jax Teller world is fast beginning to take shape, as THR brings word of two new recruits to Mayans Mc: Carla Baratta and Maurice Compte.

The former is a Venezuelan actress who has signed on to play Carnalita, a series regular who, as a child, “watched her family die at the hands of the Galindo cartel. Now, streetwise and driven, she protects the lost children orphaned by cartel violence.” Maurice Compte, on the other hand, ought to ring a bell for Netflix subscribers after the actor’s performance in hit drama Narcos. Swapping Escobar for the open road, Compte has joined FX’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff as a “highly regarded DEA agent tasked to bring down Miguel Castillo, the Galindo Cartel kingpin.” Fuelled by his own personal demons, Castillo is pitched as an unhinged character relentless in his pursuit to bring down the cartel, so we »

Movie Review – Lady Macbeth (2016)

27 April 2017 5:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Lady Macbeth, 2016.

Directed by William Oldroyd.

Starring Florence Pugh, Cosmo Jarvis, Paul Hilton, Naomi Ackie, and Christopher Fairbank.

Synopsis:

Rural England, 1865. Katherine is stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter man twice her age, and his cold, unforgiving family. When she embarks on a passionate affair with a young worker on her husband’s estate, a force is unleashed inside her so powerful that she will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

When the name Lady Macbeth is spoken, whose face is it that fills our minds? Is it Marion Cotillard, who became the latest incarnation of this most murderous of women in Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth only a few short years ago? A powerful performance, Cotillard leant her deep gaze to her Ladyship, the expressive eyes windows onto the manipulative and murderous malice that resides deep inside. Yet the French actress is cast into the shadows perhaps by two actresses, »

Sons of Anarchy ended with a bang after seven seasons of carefully plotted motorcycle gang mayhem. Now, Kurt Sutter is heading back to the universe with Mayans Mc, which deals with the Mayans Motorcycle Club. The Mayans were variously allied and opposed to the Reapers gang in the original show and were an interesting south of the border contrast to the California setting.

The new series will focus on prospective member Ezekiel “Ez” Reyes, the gifted son of a proud Latino family living near the California/Mexico border. It opens with his “American dream snuffed out by cartel violence,” propelling Ez towards crime as a way of enacting retribution. But once you’re in this lifestyle, there’s no escape.

It’ll be the third show for FX from creator Kurt Sutter, coming after global hit Sons of Anarchy and The Bastard Executioner. To ensure that »

Charlie Hunnam’s Dumb-Dumbs Are Anything But Humdrum

20 April 2017 6:51 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

The actor has made a career out of musclebound oddballs.

Charlie Hunnam gets a bad rap. The former model has attempted to make a name for himself as a leading man, but his unique brand of meatheadedness is quite different to the competent and suave badasses making up the A-list of action. He’s no Jason Bourne. There’s no way he’d pull off billionaire/playboy/superhero. That’s not what he’s after. His characters all — like the man himself — strain against their muscles as physical limitations to their introspective spirits. They want to be poets and writers and academics, but find themselves damned by their bodies, faces, lifestyles, and fates. In performing these roles, Charlie Hunnam has perfected the long-suffering wannabe-intellectual tough guy. He does this to great effect in the gorgeous slow-burn adventure The Lost City of Z, which expands this weekend, but first, let’s look at how he got here.

‘True Detective’ Season 3: Despite Changes, the HBO Drama Still Has an Auteur TV Problem

28 March 2017 1:18 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The long-gestating third season of “True Detective” appears to have a little extra juice in it, with word that creator Nic Pizzolatto has written two episodes and David Milch has joined as a producer.

For those who loved the first installment, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as two men investigating one crime over the course of years, the news might be exciting — but those who watched the second season might understandably be a little wary of the news.

That’s because “True Detective” Season 2 was further confirmation of a fact that savvy television viewers are more than aware of: Coming up with one good season of television does not make you a world-class showrunner.

This is especially true if one of the primary reasons for your show’s success — such as a key collaborator like Cary Fukunaga — departs. »

Charlie Hunnam: Robert Pattinson didn't speak to me during 'The Lost City Of Z'

25 March 2017 1:29 AM, PDT | ScreenDaily | See recent ScreenDaily news »

“I didn’t know if he was just ‘in that zone’ or if he genuinely didn’t like me.”

Charlie Hunnam has come a long way since Channel 4 series Queer as Folk, one of his first roles.

The Newcastle-born actor rocketed to international fame after landing the lead in FX’s Sons Of Anarchy, the network’s highest-rated series to date, and has since become a star on the big screen despite dropping out of Fifty Shades Of Grey - something he “still feels bad about”.

Hunnam has two major films out in the next few months; James Gray’s biopic of British explorer Percy Fawcett The Lost City Of Z, and Guy Ritchie’s big budget King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword, set for release in May.

We sat down with the actor during the Berlin Film Festival, when The Lost City Of Z screened out of competition, to discuss »

"Lorna’s mom had a lot of pills on her bedside table and slept past noon just like my mom," Sagal says. "We hung tight. And, of course, I thought everyone’s mom took a lot of pills."

At age 14, Sagal writes that she was prescribed diet pills, which she says "gave me a way to fix what ailed me -- just like my mom had with her pills for as long as I could »

Are feature-length episodes good for TV?

Do extended-length TV episodes give us more of the good stuff or are they just a route to self-indulgent storytelling?
