AGC Studios chief creative officer Lourdes Diaz has signed a new multi-year employment agreement and has been elevated to partner with a seat on the board of the independent film and television studio.
The promotion comes on the back of founders Stuart Ford, chairman and CEO, and Miguel Palos, chief operating office, themselves signing new multi-year agreements late last year.
Since AGC launched in 2018, it has become one of Hollywood’s leading production and financing players, with 41 major film and TV productions under its belt.
In a statement, Ford and Palos said Diaz had been a “hugely influential contributor to the company’s explosive growth.”

True Detective has to be one of the most brilliant anthology mystery thriller shows ever made. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series told a dark and haunting tale through the brilliant performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first season. The quality of the series took a nosedive in its second season and the third season while better from Season 2 didn’t really match the expectation that the inaugural season of True Detective set. Now, we are in Season 4 titled Night Country and with a new creative force behind the series, the fans are getting exactly what they want. So, if you have already finished the much awaited Season 4 of True Detective and are hoping for a renewal, here are some similar shows you could watch while waiting for the new season.

The Killing almost didn't make it past season 2, but Netflix's revival saved the show for season 4. The fate of The Killing was uncertain, but the fourth season allowed the creator to end the series on her own terms. The cast and crew have moved on to other projects, with the possibility of a fifth season still up in the air.
The Killing season 4 marked the end of the moody police drama following a difficult time on the air. Debuting in 2011, the adaptation of the popular Danish TV series follows veteran detective Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) as she solves a series of murders with a troubled young detective named Stephen Holden (Joel Kinnaman), who had his own checkered past. Noted for its atmospheric locations and long-form storytelling, The Killing broke the procedural mold by telling a story that branched across a season instead of just one episode.

That adds an element of danger to the show. It added to the sense that Marshall's character, Danielle Poole, might actually die when she was shot during an effort to break up a brawl.

For All Mankind's alternative timeline features three Star Trek shows: The Original Series, the never-happened Phase II, and The Next Generation. Star Trek: The Next Generation is the final Star Trek show in For All Mankind's timeline, reflecting the show's focus on the space race and landing on Mars. The absence of Star Trek shows in For All Mankind's timeline suggests that the franchise's golden days of the 1990s never occurred.
For All Mankind co-creator and executive producer Ronald D. Moore has confirmed which three Star Trek shows exist in the AppleTV+ alternative history show's timeline. For All Mankind season 4, episode 9, "Brazil" revealed that only three Star Trek shows existed in the show's alternative 2003, meaning that the franchise's golden days of the 1990s never happened. While the existence of Star Trek: The Original Series was never in doubt, viewers speculated over what the second and third shows could be.

As far as late ‘80s and early ‘90s sci-fi goes, it’s tough to top RoboCop and Total Recall, two wildly astute takes on what the current climate was and what we could expect in the future from major corporations and technology. Not surprisingly, studios felt the need to give “updates” to both in the 21st century. For the most part, both failed. But that’s not just us saying so, as original RoboCop and Total Recall director Paul Verhoeven has chimed in with his takes on both.
Regarding Robocop, Verhoeven took issue with the 2014 movie, which starred Joel Kinnaman – who himself knew his version was far removed from the 1987 original – over its lack of subtleties and nuances, in addition to how the filmmakers tried to develop the central character. “The problem there, I felt, was that he was really aware that he lost all his legs and arms. "For All Mankind" has become not only one of the best sci-fi shows around right now, but one of the best ever. Ronald D. Moore, the mind behind the reboot of "Battlestar Galactica," has made a show that bridges the gap between our reality and far-future shows like "Star Trek." This alternate timeline sci-fi drama not only excels at delivering speculative fiction, but also at delivering intimate drama.
What started as a relatively simple drama about an alternate reality where Russia got to the moon first has now become one of the most optimistic, thrilling shows on TV, one that has reached the cosmos to deliver shoot-outs on the moon, labor strikes on Mars, and even an asteroid heist.
The key to the show's narrative success lies in its use of time. Time is the enemy of people, but it is the greatest asset of "For All Mankind." By skipping...

In Apple TV's sci-fi series For All Mankind, Season 4 has drifted into, for the most part, unexplored territory, just like Goldilocks is drifting in to stir up trouble among our cast. David Ayer is weighing in on the audience response to movies these days and how it's changed from a time when he says filmgoers applauded success.
"I remember a time before," the Suicide Squad director said in a post shared on X. "A time when audiences applauded success. Not cheering on failures. When film meant wonder and magic. Fxx's Archer has proven to be a consistently hilarious, constantly thrilling and supremely enduring TV series since its 2009 debut. The espionage parody has transformed into one of the best workplace comedies of the 21st century, with a cast of outrageous characters all orbiting around the titular Sterling Archer -- the world's greatest (and often dumbest) secret agent. But things finally came to an end with the extra-length special Archer: Into the Cold serving as an epilogue to Archer Season 14 and the finale for the entire show.
But while Archer may have grown and changed in 14 years, it's hard to say that he has fully evolved -- and according to the man behind the performance, that was always by design. During an interview with Cbr, H. Jon Benjamin reflected on how the series was always more of a tragedy than anyone realized, the important effect becoming a father had on Archer,...

Joel Kinnaman had an "element of fear" for his role in 'Silent Night'.The 44-year-old actor plays grieving father Brian Godlock – who seeks revenge on a gang who killed his son and removed his own ability to speak in a drive-by shooting on Christmas Eve – in John Woo's movie and knew the risks of taking on a part without dialogue. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Joel said: "I would say the (excitement-fear) ratio was something like 80:20. If you get it wrong, it'd be a failed attempt to do a movie with no dialogue, and that just sounds like a boring travesty."But it's very cool to get to a cinematic experiment, something that is artistically courageous. That's what you dream of doing, and it happened to be with a legendary filmmaker."So I'll say 80:20, but I have to have some amount of fear in everything...

On paper, the wordless challenge of John Woo’s Silent Night would seem intimidating to most actors, but Joel Kinnaman has always tried to do more with less. The Swedish actor operates with the mindset that the camera can pick up one’s thoughts, and so he tries to trim his lines anytime an opportunity and agreement presents itself. Woo’s first American film in 20 years would prove to be the most extreme version of this exercise, as Kinnaman plays Brian Godlock, a grieving father who stops at nothing to take down the gang that is responsible for killing his young son and taking away his own ability to speak.
Considering the risky premise, Kinnaman felt just enough trepidation to take on the project that has now been received at both ends of the critical spectrum. (The Hollywood Reporter called it “gripping.”)
“If you get it wrong, it can really turn into dog shit.

As everyone plans their resolutions heading into 2024, some may think of trying new things, including watching more shows than this year. With a new year comes new series and movies to watch on the small screen. When it comes to TV series, it's nice to either have a new episode every week to look forward to or binge-watch a new show in one day if all the episodes premiere at once. Apple TV+ has the right shows for you if you want a more dramatic January.
Apple TV+ doesn't have an extensive selection next month compared to, say, Disney+, but that could mean focusing more on quality over quantity compared to Disney and judging by what we know of these shows, the quality will be through the roof. A space drama will continue from December into January, which has been received positively and poses as an alternate reality to our real-life history.

As T.E. Lawrence exclaims in "Lawrence of Arabia": "Big things have small beginnings." That axiom holds generally true of most things in life, of course, yet it curiously applies to a great number of films released in 2023.
Over the last decade and change, we've been privy to many "big things" in American cinema; such trends as the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its brethren have ensured that world-ending stakes (or larger) became the order of the day on screen, and such stakes were allowed to rise given their films' not-so-humble beginnings (for example: Tony Stark in "Iron Man" begins as a billionaire playboy military weapons manufacturer).
While there has never been a complete end to a more modest style of storytelling focused on average, everyday characters, the prevalence of the superhero film and the need for Hollywood to get butts in seats as screens dwindle meant that...

It’s been 20 years since John Woo last worked on a big Hollywood production (2003’s “Paycheck“). But this year, the legendary filmmaker returned with a proverbial (and quite literal) bang with “Silent Night,” which combines Woo’s love of a revenge story, gratuitous action and over-the-top violence and the beautiful holiday of Christmas.

Jingle All the Way's Myron Larabee had issues but he was a sympathetic villain. Jingle All the Way's Ted Maltin was a lot more despicable, toxic and scary. Jingle All the Way's Ted stands out as a Christmas tyrant due to his sociopathic energy in a family-friendly film.
With Christmas right around the corner, consumers are once more seeking out content for the season. Christmas movies traverse a wide array of genres, with Joel Kinnaman's Silent Night currently out in theaters for action fans. However, purists can dig into the archives for the likes of Gremlins (sci-fi), Black Christmas (slasher/horror), or Love Actually (romance).
Comedy is also one of the most beloved genres during the holiday season. The Home Alone franchise is always a big hit. But there is also Jingle All the Way, the 1996 gem from director, Brian Levant, that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Howard Langston.

Santa Claus won’t be the only mythical figure sliding down chimneys this holiday season! John Woo is getting in on the home invasion action now that Lionsgate is bringing Silent Night to PVOD on December 19. Please buy extra milk and cookies this year. I hear Woo likes Macaroons and Snickerdoodles. While that’s probably inaccurate, he strikes me as a man of taste. It’s been 20 years since Woo’s last American movie, so this is a big deal.
“From legendary director John Woo and the producer of John Wick comes the gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Joel Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve,” reads the official synopsis. “While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, Kinnaman makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death.

Is the Saudi-Hollywood love affair back on?
Judging by the third edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival, which wrapped on Dec. 9, the answer is yes. A parade of stars including Will Smith, Michelle Williams, Chris Hemsworth, Johnny Depp and Halle Berry made the pilgrimage to Jeddah even as the Israel-Hamas conflict raged just 700 miles north.
This year’s guest list signals a dramatic reversal in relations from five years ago, when Hollywood’s outrage campaign was in full swing following the murder of The Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi government agents. In the aftermath, WME’s Ari Emanuel cut ties with the kingdom, returning its $400 million investment just six months after courting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his visit to Los Angeles.
While enticing big-name talent this year generated positive publicity, the real Saudi mandate is to diversify the country’s economy beyond oil,...

The following contains major spoilers for Silent Night, now playing in theaters.
It goes without saying John Woo is one of the most intriguing action directors in Hollywood. After becoming famous for action movies in Asia, Woo carved out a name for himself with a myriad of movies in the Western hemisphere. As his career progressed, he would collaborate with the likes of Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, John Travolta, Jean-Claude Van Damme and, of course, Nicolas Cage, in the 1990s. Woo's movies quickly became considered staples of the genre during that period.
Whether it be Hard Target, Broken Arrow, or Mission: Impossible 2, Woo had an emblematic and very clearly-defined style. To this day, he is considered an icon by many new directors, and a major influence on films such as the John Wick franchise. Woo is back in 2023 with his first American foray since 2003's Payback, detailing the story...
