The humans of the new Pacific Rim movie are good and all but let's talk these mechs that they are piloting because let's face it, I like the Jaegers better than humans.
Everyone is building up excitement for the upcoming sequel to the Pacific Rim Pacific Rim Uprising. Which the official trailer was shown at Nycc 2017 and you can watch that here. We’re starting to get more detail about the characters Mako, Jake, and Lambert. Jake Pentacost apparently was a Jaeger pilot who left the program abandoning his copilot Major Nate Lambert who has some animosity against Jake for that. Jake has apparently in his time away been a bit of a criminal selling weapons on the black market. He never felt he was living up to his father Stacker Pentacost’s expectations and had jealousy towards his adopted sister Mako who has now become a trainer for the modern day Jaeger pilots.

Award-winning director Rolf de Heer (Twelve Canoes, Charlie.s Country) has been named one of four recipients of this year's Mpa Apsa Academy Film Fund, designed to support new feature film projects at script stage.
Announced by the Motion Picture Association (Mpa) at the 10th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (Apsa) in Brisbane last week, de Heer will receive a $25,000 Usd grant to develop his script Mr Ward.s Incredible Journey.
De Heer's screenplay follows the true story of Aboriginal elder Mr Ward, who tragically died in the back of a police van in the outback in 2008. De Heer will once again collaborate with David Gulpilil on the film.
The jury described the script as both .elegiac and timely. and commended de Heer and his Gulpilil for their .courage in taking on such a critical story in the ongoing history of the race relations between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Australia today.

In less than a day, the anticipated third installment to Pierce Brown.s Red Rising trilogy hits shelves, which reminds us that there is supposed to be a feature adaptation of the first book on the way. It.s been a while since we.ve heard any updates on the project, and from what Brown recently said, they.re not trying to rush the process of bringing this ambitious adaptation to the big screen. In anticipation of the arrival of Morning Star, Red Rising author Pierce Brown spoke with Inverse about his trilogy. When the topic of the movie came up . amidst a pretty great story about Brown geeking out over getting to meet TV composer Bear McCreary on a plane . Brown offered a vague update on the status of the Red Rising movie, including what.s going on with the script. It.s still in development right now. The...

Still not used to writing “2015” in your planner? Well, you can (momentarily) forget about that.
Because tonight — thanks to Parks and Recreation‘s Season 7 premiere — we’re going to party like it’s 2017.
The NBC comedy returned to kick off its final season on Tuesday night with two back-to-back episodes. We’ve got quite a bit of ground to cover, so let’s jump right in with the highlights, shall we?
Episode 1 | We pick up with the Pawnee gang right where last April’s season finale left us: three years in the future, as Leslie and Ben get ready for Pawnee’s bicentennial celebration.

As Executive Director of ttff, the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival which he started eight years ago, Bruce Paddington saw it develop from showing 36 movies to showing more than 100. They use 2 main venues and several smaller ones. The caliber of films has improved as more filmmakers are applying and because the ttff team works twelve months a year, they can curate better films. They have shown "Beasts of the Southern Wild" with Benh Zeitlin and his sister attending along with his parents who are cultural activists and are in fact now making a documentary on the music of the Caribbean, the African film "La Pirogue" from Senegal, and other notable films.
The films have reached the level of “No" from Chile and "Gloria" which showed there before it opened the Havana Film Festival. "Half of the Yellow Sun" from Nigeria opened their festival last year just weeks after it played in the Toronto International Film Festival. Producer Andrea Calderwood attended, introduced the film and ran a workshop. The Panorama section is becoming more international and yet the festival itself prides itself on the Caribbean character of the films and of their heritage which includes African, Indian, Latino and Anglo citizens. It is the Number One Festival of the Caribbean. Next year it will launch the first Caribbean Film Market.
Bruce is also a filmmaker in his own right as well.
When he produced and directed " Forward Ever: The Killing of a Revolution", a film about the Grenada Revolution and the circumstances surrounding the execution of Maurice Bishop and his colleagues, he was acting on a burning desire to create a comprehensive record of the key events of the revolution, having been impressed with what he saw on his visit to the island during the revolutionary period. But he hadn’t catered for the overwhelming response that the film has received to date. Having been screened in ten countries in only nine months, "Forward Ever: The Killing of a Revolution", which is often followed by a post-screening discussion, has generated a buzz of activity worldwide, among analysts of the Grenada revolution, filmmakers and of course the Grenadian diaspora.
The fact that the documentary feature was made and released almost exactly thirty years after the revolution might also have something to do with it; there is the distance of historical perspective, but there are also still enough people around who lived it and who remember the raw details of those events that had such an impact on the region’s politics.
And those who are old enough to remember are not the only ones who flock to "Forward Ever”. “What I also find compelling is the interest that young people – people who might not have even been born when the revolution took place – have in the film,” said Paddington. “Some of them had older relatives involved, others are just curious about Caribbean history. Either way, it’s extremely gratifying to see that level of interest all around; it means that we did something very right with the production.”
The film has also gained critical acclaim. In St. Lucia, the veteran journalist Earl Bousquet praised the film as a work of art that "allows images to tell stories, accompanying still photos with explanatory narratives while allowing those who were there to tell their unvarnished stories." Les Slater of Caribbean Life News believes "a huge debt is owed to the filmmaker Bruce Paddington for the very important document he assembled for the Caribbean archives." While John Green of the Morning Star newspaper in the United Kingdom argues, "Paddington's documentary is a gripping and revealing account of the Grenada revolution as never seen before."
This year, the film has been screened in London at the prestigious British Library and at the British Film Institute on Southbank as part of its African Odysseys program. It made its New York City debut in June, with former head of the Transport Workers Union, Roger Toussaint, a Trinidadian, with the Caribbean Awareness group, as a collaborator. Also supporting the film was Michelle Materre, the director of Creatively Speaking, an organization which highlights important films which feature people of colour and their histories. It was screened at the Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, The Maysles Theatre Harlem and Dctvny in Soho, and then went on to the Baobab Center in Rochester. These screenings were sandwiched in between sold out screenings in Jamaica, St. Kitts, St Lucia and Barbados that were organized by the Uwi Open Campus network; so the film’s busy schedule continues. The film has now been released on DVD for the Us market at grenadamarket.com and is due to be released by the Third World Newsreel distribution company. The DVD will soon be released in Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.
The film received funding from - The University of the West Indies (funding for the research), Fondashon Bon Intenshon in Curacao, Flow (Columbus Communications) Trinidad, and the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (for the marketing and distribution).

Dark Souls II's first Dlc is due today, and a new patch has addressed a huge list of issues...
News
The first Dlc for Dark Souls II, Crown of the Sunken King, has probably landed by the time you read this, and accompanying it is a huge update that fixes and tweaks a massive range of features.
You can see the full list below (and it's some list), but highlights include a limit to the amount of souls a player can earn whilst fighting invaders, and the removal of healing abilities during any form of PvP, a common annoyance for those who follow Dark Souls' community created honour system of no healing during a fight.
A good portion of the update deals with balancing, making changes to weapons damage, armour effectiveness, and spells. Some items have been changed too, such as the very handy Gower's Ring of Protection, which has been weakened,...

It thins out, Park City, usually starting on Monday, but dramatically so by Tuesday. The big premiere parties have come and gone. The agents and sales reps and industry professionals are mostly headed to whatever coast they call home. So too is the sponsored corporate food; if you’re looking for a free Morning Star veggie burger at what is usually a quaint restaurant called The Eating Establishment, you’re out of luck by Day 7 of the Sundance Film Festival. As the sales continue to trickle down, terms almost never disclosed anymore, all that continues is the movies, of course, the […]...

The Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan one day after running backs coach Skip Peete was also let go, Espn reports.
According to coach Jason Garrett, in a statement, "At this time, the decision has been made to move forward in a different direction philosophically on defense."
Related: Cowboys fans petition Obama to exile 'dictator' Jerry Jones
For a guy who was also fired from the same job in Cleveland two years ago, Ryan seems oddly confident that he will find a place on another team, saying, "I'll be out of work for like 5 minutes." Speaking with the Dallas Morning Star, he elaborated on that saying, "I have no hard feelings. But it doesn't matter if I coach here or not. I will find another spot," before adding, "I'm too damn good."
Maybe he can find a place with his twin brother, Rex Ryan, on the NY Jets coaching staff.

Scott Snyder has enjoyed a successful on the Batman title since the relaunch of the DC universe. His storytelling and world building within the comic has seen old fans and new embrace the series and his story arcs featuring the Court of Owls and the Joker have been very positively received. Before Scott started writing Batman he created the series American Vampire along with Rafa Alberquerque for Vertigo (DC). I had read Snyder’s run on Detective Comics with Jock and Francesco Francavilla which I had enjoyed immensely and was directed to American Vampire by a tweet that Scott Snyder himself had sent out, recapping the previous issues before the fourth part of the ‘Death Race’ story came out. I bought the first two volumes of American Vampire shortly afterwards and it has fast become one of my favourite comics. I now have the first four volumes and am eagerly awaiting the next!

The Spike VGAs declared "You Don't Know Jack" the "Social Game of the Year" and now you can download it on iOS devices free of charge! The mobile version includes hundreds of full episodes, with more added every week, and it's a perfect match for iPad.
Like most free-to-play games, "You Don't Know Jack" won't hesitate in asking you to link your Facebook account. Thankfully, for those of us who hate having to do that, it isn't required. Also, in similar fashion to the "Family Feud" game available on iOS, playing a round requires you spend in-game currency. You get one free game each day, so getting in and playing is a breeze, just make sure you earn some coins in the free round and you should be good to go.
As you would expect, "You Don't Know Jack" for iOS brings the same hilarity other versions of the game do.

Agent 47's history of video game assassination is coming to the 360 and PS3 in late January, collecting the second, third, and fourth games in Io Interactive's series.
The "Hitman HD Trilogy" collects 2002's "Hitman 2: Silent Assassin," 2004's "Hitman Contracts," and the first title in the series to make the leap to next gen, 2006's "Hitman: Blood Money." Publisher Square Enix is pricing the collection at $39.99 with a release date of January 29th for the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the U.S. (February 1st in the EU).
Interestingly, a search for the game on Amazon yielded a hit for the "Hitman Trilogy HD Premium Edition" which is listed at the same price point and includes a limited edition art book for the first run of the game.

Industrial Toys, the new studio from Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian, has revealed details on their first game, a mobile shooter coming to iOS devices Spring 2013. A complete reimagining of the sci-fi shooter, "Morning Star" has been entirely designed to utilize touch controls.
According to a recent post on the Industrial Toys website, "Our totally unreasonable goal is to completely change the expectations core gamers have for their mobile games, and with that comes a bunch of dialogue about what we’re doing and whether it’s gonna work or not."
Specific details on the game are limited, but we do know that Morning Star will take place 120 years in the future aboard a research vessel tracking an alien signal originating from Saturn. The ship, dubbed Msrv-Joplin, and crew are abruptly transported across the universe to fight a war that isn't their's to fight.

It’s that time again… okay, it’s a little past that normal time, thanks to the Mix March Madness wrapup, but here are the preview materials for DC Comics releases for July 2012.

The new film from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan gets at some of the fundamental questions of the human experience. What should you do, for example, if you're trapped in an elevator and the lights go out and a guy who might be the Morning Star bites you? Vulture's Edith Zimmerman got the answer from Dilip Rangnekar, the director of communications for Otis, an elevator manufacturing company. It's an illuminating interview:
What if you have evidence that a demon is sharing the elevator with you?
Do you believe in the paranormal?
No.
Me neither.
But what if it happened?
If you've got, so to speak, the devil inside the elevator, press the call button. Call Otis. You're trying to make this fun, I can understand that. But I've never heard of anything like this.
Phew. I feel better already. Then again, this guy is a paid spokesman for the elevator industry.

The actor has decided to play a mild-mannered leftwing radical journalist in the Us version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Genius or madness?
It is hard to imagine fictional characters further apart than Mikael Blomkvist, the central protagonist of Stieg Larsson's hugely successful novel The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and James Bond. And yet Daniel Craig, the current 007, last week reportedly signed on to star in a trilogy based on the Swedish book and its two sequels.
With Bond currently on hiatus due to studio MGM's financial travails, Craig has seized the opportunity to be part of another high-profile series with both muscular fists. And make no bones about it, Larsson's posthumously published stories are serious news, having sold more than 27m copies around the world. Each week Keizer and Major discuss the best and worst in movies, including reviewing the latest movies to hit the theater, recommending DVDs to “Buy, Rent or Burn”, and talk news with special anchor Chad Vader. Last year, the world was introduced to a brand new series called Deadliest Warrior on the Spike Network which helped answer questions people had been fighting over for decades such as “Who would win a fight between a Pirate and a Knight?” or a “Spartan vs. a Ninja?” Tomorrow night, the show returns for a season that is deemed to be “bigger and bloodier bloodier.”
The show was able to give the audience a definitive answer for the first time, using simulated algorithms from data collected by weapons, settings, and training.
