Chubby Funny review – terrifically funny post-Withnail satire

Two young actors share a London flat, then one of them lands a gig. What ensues is a smart tale of quarterlife crisis and white, middle-class privilege

Harry Michell’s low-budget debut feature is a terrifically funny and smart quarterlife-crisis comedy with great dialogue riffs and a nice line in insouciant gloom. Two young actors share a flat in London: the pudgily insecure Oscar (played by Michell) and his more attractive, high-cheekboned mate, Charlie (Augustus Prew).

The film starts where Withnail & I ended: with one of them getting cast. Charlie gets a part in a classy stage Shakespeare, but poor Oscar has only a telly advert for chocolate and a day job as a door-to-door charity mugger. Charlie and Oscar have the same agent (Alice Lowe), who says Charlie is the attractive romantic lead, while Oscar must accept his professional destiny of playing the unthreatening cuddly friend: “chubby funny”.

Chubby Funny Review

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Samuel Spencer

Chubby Funny, apart from being my username on all major online dating profiles, is a film directed by Harry Michell. The story concerns Charlie (Augustus Prew) and Oscar (Michell), struggling actors living on the outskirts of London, Zone Four in name but shot a lot around Camden. Oscar makes a pact to give himself a year in London, saying “if I don’t even appear in Holby City I’ll go back to Kent”.

Oh and it stars Dave Benson Phillips in a small role, previously of iconic gunge-based TV show ‘Get Your Own Back’. Also showing their support through cameo roles are Alice Lowe, of previously great work like ‘Prevenge’, ‘Sightseers’ and ‘Horrible Histories’, plus Julian Rhind Tutt, Anna Maxwell Martin and Jemma Redgrave.

It’s easy to see why they would support the major new comedy talent that has been unearthed by this film. We

Exclusive: 'Prison Break' Creator on Shocking Poseidon Twist: 'All Roads Point to [Spoiler]'
Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you have not watched Tuesday’s episode of Prison Break.

Did we just find out Poseidon’s identity?

At the end of Tuesday’s episode of Prison Break, titled “The Prisoner’s Dilemma,” the mysterious figurehead -- only known as “a rogue CIA operative” -- was possibly revealed to be Sara’s husband, Jacob Ness (Mark Feuerstein), as he was spotted by T-Bag (Robert Knepper) talking to two henchmen, A&W (Marina Benedict) and Van Gogh (Steve Mouzakis). But, is Jacob really Poseidon?

“There are definitely a number of more moves to that story,” creator Paul T. Scheuring exclusively tells Et. “The idea is to say, ‘Boy, that sure looks like it’s Jacob. Jacob sure looks like [he’s] Poseidon.’ All roads point to him at that point, but like I said, that is not the final understanding of Poseidon or Jacob.”

This Tuesday on Prison Break (Fox, 9/8c), two different kinds of longtime adversaries come face to face, when Kellerman receives a visit from T-Bag.

And while it’s tempting to call it a reunion , Paul Adelstein is quick to note that although Kellerman had his fingers in many a pie back in the day, the two characters never really shared a proper scene during the original series’ run.

“At the end of Season 4, the Scylla storyline, [Robert] Knepper and I talked about how we had never exchanged words on the show — and yet we always longed for it,” Adelstein tells TVLine.

Prison Break Season 5 Episode 2 Review – ‘Kaniel Outis’

Shaun Munro reviews the second episode of Prison Break season 5…

After Michael spent 99% of last week’s season premiere in the shadows, he’s thrust at the viewer from the opening moments of episode two as he readies another hilariously convoluted plot to save the day.

Smart and admirable though it is that “Kaniel Outis” is keen to waste little time, it also feels rather jumbled and rushed from the outset. The audience is introduced to two of Michael’s prison pals, Sid (Kunal Sharma) and Whip (Augustus Prew), as though they should know them already, and almost no time at all is devoted to actually developing them as human beings. At least Sid being gay – the entire reason for his imprisonment – is a nice injection of diversity, with a decent social message to boot.

Despite setting off on intriguing footing, this is ultimately a relatively lethargic outing for the most part.
