10 to Watch in 2010

31 December 2009 2:06 PM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

You might not recognize these names – yet – but you will come 2010!

Check out HollywoodLife.com’s predictions for the actors and actresses who are going to make it big in the New Year!

1. Anna Kendrick

Although she appeared in one of the biggest grossing movies of the year, Twilight Saga: New Moon, it was her role as an ambitious and uptight corporate executive in George Clooney’s 2009 drama Up In The Air that earned Anna a Golden Globe nod. The 24-year-old actress isn’t a stranger to awards, though: she’s a former Tony nominee for her role in 2003’s Broadway production of Camp .

2. Dianna Agron

As Glee’s pregnant cheerleader Quinn Fabray, Dianna Agron could easily have been pigeon-holed as another pretty blond, but her comedic-timing and pitch-perfect voice have set her apart from the pack of Hollywood wanna-bes. And as soon as The Romantics – the film  the 23-year-old »

Secret Identity: Captain America, Conan And More Casting We Want To See In 2010

31 December 2009 6:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

It's out with the old and in with the new as 2009 transitions into 2010 in just a few short hours. There's no question that it's been a fantastic, crazy and occasionally tumultuous year for comic book fans thanks to film releases like "Watchmen" and compelling news stories regarding "Iron Man 2," "Green Lantern" and others.

But all of that is in the past now. It's time to look forward at what we can expect in the new year. There are still many announced comic book movies and television shows that lack official casting, but with some of these projects heading into production in 2010, it's only a matter of time before the secrets are revealed.

While we all have our own favorite franchises and characters, these are the five heroes and villains I'm dying to see cast in 2010.

· Well hey, here's a new piece of key art advertising the just-dated second season of Showtime's United States of Tara (which will premiere March 22). Click for bigger.

· Joe Johnston is readying Captain America for a hopeful June start. (Between that, The Hobbit, and Spider-Man 4, it's going to be a crowded summer for shooting heavy FX tentpoles.)

· VH1's list of the most shocking music moments sadly does not include sister station MTV forsaking music altogether.

· Demi Moore may claim that her hip wasn't airbrushed away on the cover of W, but the Korean version of the magazine appears to have digitally reinserted it.

· Thor's Chris Hemsworth and his brother, Miley Cyrus beau Liam, got into an altercation a while back at a nightclub, and are now famous enough for it to be featured on TMZ. Congrats, boys! »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Six

27 December 2009 10:09 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Last Airbender

Opens: July 2nd 2010

Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel

Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.

Analysis: It has been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan, who started it as a household name with the label of a modern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".

Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit »

Alexander Skarsgård Talks Straw Dogs and Thor

This post is probably going to be a bit like kicking a beehive. Every time we run an article about the upcoming Thor movie, starring Chris Hemsworth as the Norse god of Marevel comics and legend, there is a flurry of comments reiterating the fan opinion that Alexander Skarsgård should have been the one cast. And, in a small interview, he says he very nearly was, and that he auditioned quite a few times. Before saying that he auditioned for Thor "many, many times," the actor told Black Book (via The Playlist): I know that they considered me for the part and I got, from what I understand, very close to getting it and that’s amazing because I know how many guys they look at for a part like that. Marvel writers excited about arrival of 'shared universe' in Avengers movie

22 December 2009 11:27 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

While we have seen superhero teams on screen before in X-Men and Fantastic Four, we've not yet seen several heroes crossing over from their own films into one ensemble movie.

This will happen in The Avengers, the 2012 Marvel Studios team-up movie bringing together Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and possibly Hawkeye, Edward Norton's Hulk, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and others.

Staff at Marvel Comics are excited to see how the concept of uniting all those characters will work on the big screen.

In an interview with Newsarama, several of them have given their views on the Avengers film.

Writer Brian Michael Bendis, who for five years has been the 'architect' of the Avengers comic, is part of the creative committee that consults on movies in development at Marvel Studios, including The Avengers.

Jude Law Denies 'Thor' Casting Rumor

22 December 2009 9:44 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Sherlock Holmes" arrives in theaters this week, pairing "Iron Man 2" star Robert Downey Jr. with actor Jude Law — who remains a far less prominent star in the comic book movie world than his co-star, despite his comics cred-inspiring ink. (He has a tattoo of Rorschach from "Watchmen.") However, an October rumor seemed to indicate that Law was on track to change all that with a role in "Thor" alongside Robert DeNiro.

Unfortunately, the rumor turned out to be just that, as Law explained to MTV News during the recent "Sherlock Holmes" red carpet event.

"Was there?" said Law when told there was a widely circulated rumor tagging him for a role in Kenneth Branagh's film about the Marvel god of thunder.

When asked whether he'd ever been approached about a role in the film, the actor answered, "No, I had no idea!"

Jaimie Alexander Tweets About Thor (Some More)

19 December 2009 6:55 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Actress Jaimie Alexander has been one of the most faithful insider "tweeters" when it comes to updating comic book movie fans about the latest comic-to-movie adaptation coming out of Marvel Studios. A month ago, she used her Twitter account to announce the start of her stunt training for director Kenneth Branagh's live-action production of Thor, based on the comic book character from Marvel Comics.

In recent Tweets, Alexander has commented on everything from how she "can't stop staring at" the arms of the movie's star, Chris Hemsworth, to the guilt she felt over "accidentally punching Fandral" (played by Stuart Townsend) in the stomach. In her latest Thor tweet, Alexander debunked a recent rumor about the actor said to be cast in the role of Balder the Brave, a mainstay of the Thor comic book series and one of the few remaining supporting characters yet to be cast.
