Yogi Berra returns to Yankee Stadium for his 87th birthday

Three-time Mvp and Yankee baseball legend Yogi Berra returned to Yankee Stadium on Saturday to celebrate his 87th birthday with the newest incarnation of the team to which he devoted nearly 25 years of his career. In the moments before their game against the Seattle Mariners, the Yanks honored the veteran player.
According to the NY Times, a tribute video played on a screen at center field. Then, Berra's friend Rod Guidry drove him onto the field in a golf cart. At home plate, he was presented with a birthday cake by Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal and Derek Jeter. The crowd sang happy birthday to him.
Fans who came to watch the game on Saturday also received a commemorative Yogi Berra baseball card when they arrived at the ballpark.
One of the most beloved Yankees of all time, Berra won 10 World Series championships as a player and three as a coach. »

In a competitive situation with several studios interested, 20th Century Fox TV has signed hot young comedy writer-producer Kay Cannon in an overall deal. She will develop new projects for the studio and will also join 20th TV’s comedy series New Girl as a co-executive producer next season. Second City and Ucb alumna Cannon spent the last 6 years on NBC’s Emmy-winning comedy series 30 Rock, starting as a staff writer in Season 1 and rising to supervising producer this season. In 2010 she received an Emmy nomination for co-writing with 30 Rock creator/star Tina Fey the Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter episode of the show. On the feature side, Cannon’s first script, Pitch Perfect, is being produced into a movie distributed by Universal and starring Anna Kendrick. Cannon is with Wme and Brillstein Entertainment. »

In a Hollywood explosion seldom seen, Joe Eszterhas, the screenwriter for The Maccabees, the Jewish historical film Mel Gibson is making, published a nine-page letter accusing Gibson of being anti-Semitic and just doing the film to fix his reputation. Mel Gibson published a response saying Eszterhas was unprofessional and delivering a late, substandard script (that Warner Bros rejected).

The Weinstein Company docu Bully has really touched a nerve. In the latest promotion for the Lee Hirsch-directed film, New York Yankees stars Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson and manager Joe Girardi took time to do a PSA to urge the audience to sign on to a website for the film and its Bully Project petition. Actors Wilmer Valderrama and Minka Kelly have fuelled new romance reports after they were photographed enjoying a romantic stroll during a trip to Australia.
Rumours about a budding romance between the two stars surfaced last month, but Valderrama played down the claims, insisting they had a platonic relationship and had been friends "for a long time".
But the alleged new couple has done little to dispel the romance speculation and Kelly and Valderrama have now been snapped together Down Under, where they both attended the opening party for new Sydney nightclub Marquee - The Star on Monday.
Valderrama and Kelly were caught walking along the water at Balmoral on Tuesday, smiling as they gazed into each other's eyes, while the former That 70s Show star had his arm draped around the actress' shoulders.
Valderrama has previously dated Demi Lovato and Mandy Moore, while Kelly, the star of the failed TV revamp of Charlie's Angels, parted ways with baseball ace Derek Jeter last year. »

The course to true love is never easy. Actress Minka Kelly and beau Derek Jeter have called it quits on their four-year relationship once again, says Life & Style magazine.
The "Friday Night Lights" star and New York Yankees shortstop first broke up in August, but rekindled their relationship in December.
"Minka was single as of early February," a source told Life & Style. "She was saying that she was available and seemed open to dating."

To generations of moms, baseball cards, helmets and bats are regarded as clutter. So what if some athlete took a pen to them? The stuff often winds up in the trash.
But sports memorabilia is a major business, and like any objects of value, their provenance is interesting. Those stories are featured in ABC's "Ball Boys," a half-hour reality show launching Saturday, March 24. It revolves around Robbie's First Base, a store in Baltimore.
Owner Robbie Davis Sr., a former car salesman, opened the shop 23 years ago. His son, Robbie Jr., works with him, as do Sweet Lou and Shaggy. Though Davis says Sweet Lou knows his sports facts, in the pilot he's presented as a dolt.
If this sounds like a very close copy of "Pawn Stars" with the father, son and dopey pal, Chumlee, it should. The same producers are behind both shows.
