Alex Ranarivelo was born in the small town of Saint-Jean-d'Angely, France. His family moved to New-York City when he was 7. He attended film school at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where his film-making skills earned him a scholarship. While in school, Alex wrote, directed, and edited his first 35mm short film, "The Last Race", based on his experiences as a street-racer. "The Last Race" screened extensively at film festivals and won an award for its lead actor.
Alex continued to develop his storytelling skills with 5 more short films in different genres, each one playing on the festival circuit, and winning him multiple best short film awards. He recently completed his debut feature film, the sexist romantic comedy "Knuckle Draggers".
Alex is of Malagasy descent.
Alex was a top 50 finalist out of 1700 contestants in the third Project Greenlight directing contest.
